yes, I know on both countsHe needs a new contract.
Beyond that he made an All Pro team… do teams typically cut All Pros?
Over his entire career Jon Jones never once made an All Pro or Pro Bowl team as a CB. It’s not because he wasn’t deserving, but because the voting system doesn’t differentiate between boundary and slot CB’s.yes, I know on both counts
he was an all pro as a return man, not as a CB. his approximate value metric was 10 that season. he missed season 2. season 3, his approximate value metric was 3.
he has disappointed as a CB.
not sure the Pats will pay a return man big money, that is maybe a part time CB
I see bell as a full back H-back, not as a tight end. I am hoping the kid from Bama shows enough to take that role.Well that's an interesting way to look at it but if Henry and Hooper are healthy I would expect the FB to get more snaps than TE3.
Fine, I just dont see how having a guy that doesn't touch the ball in the game as worth one of the 45 game day spots. I just dont see that value.Lampe had the highest rated run blocking grade of any player who wasn’t an offensive lineman in all of college football last season ( 84.5) . Whereas the scouting reports on Bell said this;
Overview
Undersized as a tight end and lacking instincts as a lead blocker out of the backfield, Bell is a player without a clean positional fit after playing all over the field at South Carolina and Florida State. When Bell centers in and locks up, he can be an effective blocker, but he is wildly inconsistent when asked to make blocks on the move in space. ( NFL.Com Lance Zeurlein)
So one is the best lead blocker in college football, and the other is “ wildly inconsistent when asked to make blocks on the move in space.”
I’ll take the best lead blocker in college football over the guy who “ lacks instincts and is !wildly inconsistent when asked to make lead blocks in space.”
by any metric or eye test, Marcus did not play well last year at CB.Over his entire career Jon Jones never once made an All Pro or Pro Bowl team as a CB. It’s not because he wasn’t deserving, but because the voting system doesn’t differentiate between boundary and slot CB’s.
Marcus Jones was a great return man, league best, and he was really good in the slot and improving.
He needs a contract and to prove he is durable enough, if they move on from him it will due to these factors… not because he isn’t good enough.
What's my "narrative?"by any metric or eye test, Marcus did not play well last year at CB.
since it doesn't fit your narrative, you will never agree, so lets not ruin a good thread about Bell not being good enough
are you looking forward to seeing Lampe lay the wood this preseason?
Agreed, I think the FB position comes down to Bell or this Gee Scott kid. At least they're good athletes.I see bell as a full back H-back, not as a tight end. I am hoping the kid from Bama shows enough to take that role.

And many more that play and handle the ball and play special teams, like I project Bell to be capable of.said by someone who has ZERO respect for special teams play

There are indeed active players who never touch the ball.

He seems like the next urban legend like Beau Allen.
can Lampe fill a similar role to what Devlin of Jakob did?1-Special Teams units
2-Outstanding lead blocker
3-Pass Protection in 2 back sets
4-Good receiver out of the backfield, very good hands.
There is a significant role for Lampe, just as there was for James Devlin.

his feet look good enough to get him outside in front of Henderson. he also appears to have soft hands
Henderson has the speed to not only get outside, but if he gets 1 block he could be gone. From everything I have read and heard that the perfect role for him. He’s a classic fullback, an exceptional lead blocker and pass protector.
If they put Henderson and Lampe in the backfield Maye should have plenty of time to get the ball downfield.
Henderson has the speed to not only get outside, but if he gets 1 block he could be gone.
he needs a blocker with the footwork to get outside. that might be Lampe
Bell played the 8th most special teams snaps on the team.said by someone who has ZERO respect for special teams play

Beau Allen was a good player who suffered a career ending injury. Let us know who is going to suffer a career ending injury this season so we can be sure not to rely on him? What a ****ing Horrible ****ing signing he was. Hated it from very start, because that was yet another example of Little Bill’s dumpster-diving tactics when he & his incompetent lackeys were too ****ing lazy to find the REAL DT we needed then.
