Is he going to make it, TE, FB or both. If so how many TE's can we carry. And if he does make it, then who doesn't?

As a FB maybe but I feel like CJ Dippre will be our blocking TE. He's got a chance to develop into much more than that though. He's faster than all of them. He just needs to work on his catching and route running.

He’s got a puncher’s chance. Last year means nothing. He’s got an unusual skill set but is a late round pick from a year ago that didn’t play much under a different coach. I’d assume his best hope is the practice squad.

Doubt he makes the team. Maybe PS. CJ dippre looks solid and if route running is polished could be a pretty decent blocking tight end for next 4 years . With the LT situation we will have lots more emphasis on blocking. Brock lampe , larison and dippre will make the team.

CJ Dippre will very likely take the 3rd blocking TE role, but there will still be a job search for a FB.

Jaheim Bell and Hector Johnson are good athletes, Johnson is more FB sized but they’re similar.

Duane Martin is a unique athlete, not amazing but a low center of gravity, a whole lot of mass and really strong. He might be the most punishing blocker out of the backfield, which will be something McDaniels will value.

IMO one of these three have the best chance to stick at FB.

Neither Duane Martin nor Hector Johnson made the current 91 man roster.
Also Johnson is a DL not a fb

He’s definitely fighting for a roster spot, but with as little playing time as he got last season, as well as the ****show the players had to deal with, it’s hard to evaluate him, especially in contrast to what the guys he’s fighting for a spot with, as we have seen little of them as well. He did play on special teams for them last season, but it wasn’t noticeable good or bad. Realistically he’s probably fighting with Dippre and Lampe for a roster spot, and given MacDaniels love for Fullbacks I would give Lampe the edge for that roster spot, but special teams will be a big factor in the final decisions.

Martin and Johnson were brought in for a tryout, I wouldn’t hang too much on the current roster. There will be a revolving door of free agents going in and out, these guys may be back.

Johnson tried out as a potential FB or LB, he would be happy landing any job coming from Endicott College. I’d still put Bell as the front runner to win the FB job.

I really like the look of Dippre. I’d give him the best shot of the guys that you mentioned

TE, I mentioned before on bell.. he has talent.. he's undeveloped like basically all the young guys and rookies were last season. We've carried 3 TEs in past patriots offenses under Josh.. and had A FB.. I think we also signed an UDFA FB too right? Also have to take into account Henry is 31 and Hooper is what 33? Both are older guys. Bring bell along slowly and properly developing him could do wonders for the offense going forward.

His skill set, if he even has one, doesn't seem like a great fit behind Henry/Hooper. That being said, Hooper is on a 1 year deal and 2 years for Henry... if they see any sort of real potential for Bell they'll find a spot for him even if it means letting a blocking TE go and just using an extra OL. Considering TE is probably the oldest position on our team right now, I doubt they'd let anyone go they liked as a receiver.

Bell is undeveloped. We can't honestly say what he is.. yet..It's been so disastrous last few seasons with development of players. Vrabel said everyone has a clean slate. Bell like all the other TEs, will all compete for a spot. I believe he could be someone that really can develop under Josh and become a play maker for Drake down the line.

If they want a pure lead blocking, short yardage carrying, sometimes receiving FB, it'll probably be Lampe, with Dippre as TE #3

IDK. AVP might not have been a good OC, but he got good production out of the TEs last year ahead of Bell. And going back to his time in CLE as the OC, it coincided with Njouku's breakout there.

I understand the coaching was poor overall, but we can't just chalk EVERY weak year by a young player up to that. Some, even most of these guys might just not be good. Bell is a 7th round pick at TE. MOST of the guys drafted there flame out without ever doing anything notable in the NFL. I'm not holding my breath that he's actually a beast just held back by bad coaching. What he did last year - barely make the team and not actually do much once on it - probably already matched or outperformed his draft slot to be honest.

He’s massive, really strong, 6th offensive lineman type ability as a blocker.

On top of that he has good inline speed for a guy his size. He won’t shake many defenders but as the last option or in the screen game he could be useful as an outlet guy.

Henry is a veteran who's played at a high level his entire career as is Hooper and who had familiarity with AVP.. Bell, baker, Polk and even Gibson couldn't properly be used last season.
I know alot of it had to do with the offense line.. however the entire offensive operation rest on the OC.. the head coach of the offense AVP admitted he couldn't even call everything on his play sheet.. we have a real OC back now, someone with championship pedigree. I expect bell to be given a fair chance to succeed.

Exactly. Love his size. Love his blocking. And he’s athletic enough to be a threat. I think he was underutilized at a receiving threat in college.
How did you like how I got banned on the TFH10 forum for telling you that I liked your post? Wow.

IF J Bell walks the walk he can carve out a spot for himself... he has a unique skill set; he can also carry the football. I hoping J Bell and CJ Dippre put pressure on both Henry and Hooper.

AVP didn't even know J. Bell was on the team.. Bell can learn from Henry.. and be correctly developed by Josh In a real offense now.
