Maybe you didn't get to see him compete through preseason and leading to that week 6 start but the coaching staff got to see plenty of what all three qbs could do. Handed the starting job on a silver platter.....yeah ok.

He won one game.
He may turn out to be great but competition is a good motivator.

Just food for thought - Onwenu's weight was especially problematic last year because of the type of scheme Alex Van Pelt was running, which needed athleticism from the OL. Switching back to a McDaniels scheme, it won't really matter as much if Onwenu is chunky. If it helps him be a bully in the run game, maybe it's a plus?

Like Trenni Casey on Early Edition just now suggesting that Drake's 4 picks today may mean that the prior optimistic W/L predictions for the upcoming season should be dialed back. I'm serious.

I mean, Maye is learning a much more complicated offensive system than he had to run last year, and has to shoulder the protections and calls etc himself as opposed to being able to let the center handle some of that. He is going to struggle early while absorbing all of that. Thankfully, they don't play a real game for about... 4 months.

Not to mention he moved back and forth between tackle and guard as the line around him imploded. He still ended up with decent grades, particularly on pass blocking.

And our run blocking was particularly bad because we were running at against very heavy boxes all the time.
This year we can do zone blocking runs to the left to take advantage of Campbell's athleticism and the power schemes can go up the middle and to the right. And we will have much lighter boxes and the constant threat of play action.
