I love Chism but even I will admit a 4.71 40 time for an NFL slot receiver is terrible and certainly a red flag. Now maybe he would or could do better. Not asking for a 4.4 but 4.71 is horrible. I have confidence that if he puts in the work he should be able to improve on that.
It is neither terrible, nor a red flag.

Would if he stunning if Chism ends up taking Pop’s job in the slot?

Not saying, just spit-balling a bit.

Wasn’t one game ending Maye int determined that Pop wasn’t where he was supposed to be?

Pop has great physical quickness, but what about mental quickness?

Pop mental acumen is not that highly rated and I believe he ran the wrong routes a lot of times. If he shows elusiveness and knack for routes, expect pop to get traded or lose his reps.

I suppose the only concern about Chism making the final roster is whether he’d be able to offer enough on ST. A 4.7 forty suggests it’s not going to be as a returner unless he can demonstrate he’s particularly adept at keeping the ball safe.

Speed in four directions is more important than speed in one.

Wes Welker had similar inline speed... what he shares in common with all great slot receivers is mobility in four directions. The ability to get open in a phone booth.

Vrabel intends to remove the entitlement, so the way I see it is that Chism will have exactly the same chance as Polk to make the cut of 6 WR.

Also, consider Polk was not a McDaniels/Vrabel pick, but Chism WAS signed by them... and... Polk was not only historically bad on the field, but also a whiny baby off it last year. Watch this space for sure.

McDaniels (through BB) definitely has a history of getting a lot out of white skill position guys other teams didn't want.. Edelman, Dola, Woodhead, Welker, Hogan etc.

I'd guess one of Chism, Dippre or Larison make the final 53.

2 of them might make the 53. It just won't be Chism.

A second round pick is not getting cut after 1 year. Polk's problem is not a lack of talent. It was horrible coaching, overloading, poor usage, and mental breakdown. He showed his skill in camp, and McDaniels will find a way to revive him.

I truly hope this is the case. Would be huge for us.

The best thing he has going for him is that about 85% of his contract is guaranteed, so cutting him in August could still increase his cap hit by about $2M. OTOH, trading him for a conditional 7 or whatever would save about $1M. [Baker has no remaining guaranteed money, so he's on much thinner ice.]

If he gets beat out by 6 WR, then he could be traded/cut. He was also a reach, and the fact we drafted him in R2 will mean absolutely nothing to Vrabel. It will be best 6 guys to help the team win.

At the moment I'd say Polk was our 7th best WR, with a chance to make the roster if they cut Bourne for cap/regression reasons. And Diggs if starting off on PUP will give him an extra chance for the first month... but he's not a lock by any means IMO...

Diggs
Williams
Pop
Boutte
Hollins
Bourne

Polk
Baker/UDFA's

Or all three.

I think they really have a chance, and if Larison is what we expect he is a lock.

I'm starting to warm up to this guy having a legit shot at making this team at worst PS.

You are being pessimistic. It's either 2 out of 3 or all 3 . Having seen their tape , you need to wonder why other teams did not draft them.

They fell through the cracks....WR - RB and TE had plenty of dept. McDaniels can scheme all those guys open.

Watching the Chism video, he clearly resembles Edelman with his elusiveness, strength, and open field vision. I mean he's surrounded time and again and finds a path to a big gain. Pop and Polk will need to be at the top of their game to beat this guy out, and Josh has no allegiance to either of them.

I agree to an extent and am hoping Polk looks better this year, but there is a good amount of competition so it would not surprise me if he was released or traded. He did have horrible coaching, but he does not make good breaks in and out of routes and he is not a fast guy. He does accelerate pretty quickly, but I am not sure he will bring anything more than Booty, Diggs, Hollins, Williams, Chism or Bourne. Polk is someone that I am rooting for but odds might be stacked against him

A Chism III jersey would sell like hotcakes.
