The Best Thread Of The Year: 2025 UDFA Thread

Bear in mind that I've not watched most of the players in this UDFA class so what I'm going to say is a generalisation. However, I'm struck by the differences between the defensive and offensive sides of the ball.

Aside from, perhaps Elijah Ponder, the defensive side of UDFA strikes me as pretty unspectacular. This isn't really a surprise as, aside from NCB, the Patriots defensive roster is pretty solid throughout with not much opportunity for a UDFA to break through. However, on the offensive side of the ball, there are clear opportunities for UDFAs, particularly in trying to provide Josh McDaniels players to fit his scheme like a FB, a 'get open quick' slot receiver, an all purpose back and a blocking TE3. I'm genuinely intrigued to see what Chism, Larison, Dippre and the fullbacks can do in pre-season to win a place on the roster.

One tiny moan. I’m not sure JM has a style anymore. I think we’re going to see a lot of different looks tailored to the players.

I agree but those players I mentioned will all enable him to provide "different looks".

Lan Larison is a steer wrestler. His highlight film is impressive. He runs like Walt Garrison who you young whippersnappers may not know about; he was Cowboy who was a real cowboy. I cannot believe that Jerry Jones whiffed on signing this guy, ha. Even the name rhymes.

Loved Walt Garrison, just a good, solid, honest Rb. Just a tough son of a gun (pardon the pun).

For all the great things this team has done, is anyone else surprised by the lack of an urgency at guard? They didn't draft one and the only OL UDFA they brought has more of an OT build in Jack Conley. He played guard at Boston College. As well as Tackle in 2023 mostly. But at 6'7 he is kind of tall for a guard. Who knows if he can do it here. In any case he certainly isn't one of the 'steal UDFA' signings.

You would think they would have made some moves to bring in some top UDFA guards since they didn't draft one, but nope. Not a one.
They have Layden Robinson and Sow, maybe they see chance for improvement for them from next year. Also Bedard suggested pats wanted guard Jona Savaniie at 48 but Miami traded up in front of them

Jake Andrews pick 107 in 2023
Dawand Jones pick 111 in 2023.

Yeah.. Like the Pats needed a fat OT that has weight and attitude issues. They got RID of that with Trent Brown. Remember.

Especially since Andrews is the favorite to start at center this year. Oh wait

Who said that Andrews was the favorite to start at center this year? No one said that Andrews was the favorite since they added Bradbury and Wilson.

I thought I'd posted a list of the players I thought would be cut.

It was Monty Rice, Ricci, Harris, Johnson, Parry, James, Layden Robinson, Westover. I figured Andrews would be given a chance to compete with Ben Brown for the Practice Squad Center..

I’m curious. Who’s been the most fan hyped UDFA going into, or during, pre-season and do you think Larison or Chism will match that?

Admit it, it's the stache.

Good hands

I don't know anything about most of them, but Dippre, Larison and Chism all seem to have a chance to make the roster. Add in the FB and the QB and that's a pretty good group. I'm going to enjoy Chism and Larison in pre-season.
I really like Elijah Ponder but our edge is pretty full
