Bear in mind that I've not watched most of the players in this UDFA class so what I'm going to say is a generalisation. However, I'm struck by the differences between the defensive and offensive sides of the ball.
Aside from, perhaps Elijah Ponder, the defensive side of UDFA strikes me as pretty unspectacular. This isn't really a surprise as, aside from NCB, the Patriots defensive roster is pretty solid throughout with not much opportunity for a UDFA to break through. However, on the offensive side of the ball, there are clear opportunities for UDFAs, particularly in trying to provide Josh McDaniels players to fit his scheme like a FB, a 'get open quick' slot receiver, an all purpose back and a blocking TE3. I'm genuinely intrigued to see what Chism, Larison, Dippre and the fullbacks can do in pre-season to win a place on the roster.
