If this draft is the work of Eliot Wolf’s grading system then

I’m glad whoever it was prioritized offense and didn’t hoard defense.

finally.... a draft that i love. haven't felt this way in a long time.

if loving this draft is wrong....i don't want to be right.

I suspect Wolf will be moving on once his contract ends.
What if this draft blows up and is the reason why the Pats exceed expectations in 2025?

Josh wanted a third down back.

And yes, I realize in today's modern passing game that third down backs play a lot more than just third downs.

Sony Michel would have qualified as a third down back way back when, but I suspect there will be a thunder/lightning thing going on with Rhamondre and TreVeyon. Henderson's ability to see the field quickly will be dependent on his ability to pass block.
They just got their Gibbs. Thats what they did.

I think this was the plan all along. They went into free agency knowing they couldn’t address their offensive needs there, and that the available talent was on defense, so they went defense heavy in free agency, and then addressed the offense in the draft.

We were the Slowest Offense in 24; we had no Player who could take it the Distance unless we want Maye go out on a stretcher. Love the the Henderson and Williams picks.
Defensive ends best beware!

We've heard rumors and inferences from Wolf that Mayo didn't have a vision nor knew what kind of player he wanted in his program. That left the personnel dept to it's own devices. We saw the results.

This is why i'm stopping short on the, "Wolf Sucks" narrative. A good GM/personnel guy needs input from the coach on what kind of player to target. That increases the odds of success the player will do well here.

We can speculate if they are using Wolf's "grading system" or not but there is no question each player chosen or signed in FA is a guy Vrabel has vetted (to varying levels) and has signed off on that player being part of his program.

One thing we know is grading system or not BB wouldn't leave the first three rounds drafting four offensive players, two of them linemen, even if it was the best move for the team. In particular LT was a dire need, and at pick 4 there was the consensus best LT in the draft, yet I highly doubt BB would have taken him.

He'd get a hard-on for a DB and that guy would be on the team no matter what. Especially if that player came from Rutgers and/or played lacrosse and/or excelled at the three-cone test.

Either that, or he'd trade down and get a two mediocre/risky players rather than taking one consensus "sure thing".

Vrabel and team did try to pick up both OL (Staley) and WR (Evans) during free agency but at the end of the day those players were expensive and older and preferred to stay with their teams. It would have taken an over-the-top offer to get them to come here, and they just weren't worth paying over-the-top money for. Both are past their prime and IMO more name than game. Glad things turned out the way they did.

What makes you think his legwork will be the reason?

This year's draft looks like the polar opposite so far of what we saw last year and the last few years with Wolf at the head of the collaboration.

The difference is that they actually picked them, instead of leaving us scratching our heads and saying what the **** the morning after. You know, like N’Jeal Harry instead of Deebo Samuel, or Cole Strange instead of Breece Hall, or last year’s favorite example, Jaylin Polk instead of Ladd McConkey.

This year they got it right, enjoy that for a moment, it hasn’t been happening that much around here recently.
Oh, I agree. But I think that’s more about the decision makers at the top than about the scouting reports. We’ll see what the later rounds bring, which I think will be more based on the gems the scouts find.

If Vrabel and Cowden did all the work then why is Kraft paying Wolf and Groh?

Why is Wolf the front man for this draft.

Wolf was already under contract and Bob hates to waste money.

Yep. I’ll never forget that video of Wolf telling Belichick to shut the **** up and go sit in the corner, and then picking N’Keal Harry over Belichick’s screams and cries. Nothing says ALPHA MALE like Eliot Wolf. So intimidating.

Wolf wasn't hired or in the war room until 2021, we have him (and Jonathan) to thank for Mac Jones... so there's that.

Yeah, he definitely bossed Belichick on Mac Jones. He’s a beast. No one would **** with that guy. Belichick simply couldn’t deal with his intimidating presence. He’s a baddddd man!

The Krafts have ultimate power, their name on the masthead, they sign the checks, they fired Bill... so yeah, they are the boss.

My apology Wozzy. For a moment I forgot that you are a part of the Patriots front office, and have been in all their meetings the past 30 years. So while the rest of us have to speculate, you go off of first hand knowledge of what really happened.

Robert announce "collaboration" at the owner's meetings entering the 2021 offseason after Wolf was hired.

Bill Belichick just said this a month back in an interview, “Ownership, coaching and scouts must be on the same page in order to be successful and we had that up until about the last four years in New England."

So no, I didn't have to be in the room, I simply needed to take the two leading authorities on what transpired at their word.

The Krafts are everybody's boss.
