DRAFT Welcome to New England, Georgia C Jared Wilson

You're skipping a step. He's been downgraded because he reaches when he blocks/overcompensates for the outside speed rush which makes people think he'll trouble with great speed rushers and guys with counter moves, i.e. the top pass rushers of the NFL. People think he'll always have more limitations against the top pass rushers to the point he won't be a top LT. The arm length is just the reason people think it's something he's going to keep doing, as opposed to something he can grow out of. Some do that as a technique issue, he seems to do it because he physically has to.

He “ reaches?” If that had been an actual problem it would have shown up in sacks and pressures, it didn’t. That’s draftniks trying to knock down a prospect thinking they know more than the people doing the actual grading.

Once you show me some data that showed up in his play I’ll consider it, but I don’t really care what Tom from Buffalo critiques a player on.

I so hope the days of our offensive line draft black hole are over. So many Busts and so much failure to develop. Coaching undoubtedly partly to blame.

Wynn, Strange, Sow, Mafi, J Andrews, Robinson, Wallace.

Interesting. You don't doubt Strange when he hasn't played in over a year and prior to his injury was at best iffy at LG for 1.5 years but question the 4th player taken in the draft.
Did you watch the games last year? Just checking Strange played at the end of the year.

Do better.

Yes, he went #4, but the consensus is that there were only two non-QB blue chip prospects (Hunter, Carter). You can be the top LT prospect on most boards and not be considered blue chip. There are not blue chip player at every position every year on every draft board. The consensus this year is that there were none at LT and that Campbell was the best of the bunch.

On your second part, context is key. You said you weren't confident we had a functional/serviceable LG. From what I've seen with Strange he is serviceable/functional, albeit below average and someone that should be replaced. Context matters here. I was I wasn't worried about LG in the context you brought up about us having a functional/serviceable player there. That's a very different grading scale than whether Campbell is a "blue chip" LT like you say vs. someone who will just be "ok" like I have him projected.

“ The Consensus” is made up of a bunch of draftniks and mock drafters, and any douchebag can create their own draft site and podcast.

I did.

You also need to do better.

When you mistakenly say that Strange hasn't played in 11/2 years, which was wrong, and use that as a point to say he may well suck this spring, when he has never sucked before, you are being a lazy poster. You are usually better than this, so do better.

I agree with you on Campbell though.

Campbell had the shortest wingspan recorded at the combine since 2011 for an OT so I don't think there's anyone in the current NFL that will be lower than him, all pro or not.

Lmao. “ wingspan?” This is the first year I havevever heard the term “ wingspan” applied to prospects, and I have followed the draft my entire life. Name one offensive lineman who plays with both arms outstretched wide? It doesn’t happen.

Local sport stalk radio, particularly Bertram and Felger, both bash Campbell daily & ruthlessly.. they have reduced him to T-Rex...
My view it was a convergence of the Pats greatest need and the best available LT...
i get it. boston sports talk radio is negative. but who really cares what those two bobos think. they're known ass talkers. bertrand is a dumb ding dong eating, get in my belly, fat ass with jowls for weeks and felcher is a meat packer homer who should head back to the hell hole that is wisconsin where he belongs. they're both embarrassments to intelligent sports talk in boston.

Well he only started the one season.
Tremendously athletic but very limited starting experience.
May well need a year of coaching.
Also notice in his RAS score the bench press is missing. He needs to get stronger, only low 20s bench press.

Cole Strange missed 7 of 17 games in 2023.

His first game back in 2024 was week 15. He missed 14 games last year.

That is a total of 21 games missed out of 34 which is 4 games more than an entire football season. So closer to 1.25 years missed. Excuse me.

I never said he sucked. I said he could suck. I also he was iffy at best.

Take more time to read and do some research and less time being a d-bag misreading my posts.

Every pick has made sense, and honestly under Belichick I’d assume we’d have drafted at least one DB with a prolonged injury history and have used one of the day two picks on a guy projected to go later today

I don't know about that, at least the mental part. As Parcells said about OLine play, "it is not exactly rocket science". What he will need to do is to get stronger to slow down the bull rush or otherwise opposing teams will put their biggest, ugliest goon on his nose every play. We will know right away if he can hold up considering who he will be going against in training camp.

Campbell / Lowe
Strange / Schweitzer / Sow
Bradbury / Wilson / JAndrews / Brown
Onwenu / Robinson
Moses / Wallace / Jacobs

I’m still not sure the starting line will be very good, but they’ve got pretty good competition set up for the backup spots with some guys that have intriguing talent.
Which Robinson are you referring to? Tyrese or Layden..

I'm not arguing one way or another about the significance of this, but wingspan would seem a lot more important than arm length. If I need to move my feet one step less because my wingspan is 1/2 a foot or a foot longer than yours, that's an advantage. When it comes to arm's length, the difference is an inch or two at most. Wingspan is a lot more significant.

Explain to me how 1/2” of arm length would cause someone to need to have a bad habit they can’t break. Hold a ruler to you finger and see what half an inch is. It’s literally a fingertip. It’s irrelevant.

The only talent on that backup list is Wilson, who will end up backing up all 3 IOL spots. Wallace is a hope. Schweitzer is a fossil made of glass. The rest wouldn’t make the 53 man roster on any team.

By far the best center prospect according to scouts. He’s another elite athlete—even by NFL standards. Notice the trend of Patriot selections?

NFL.com says he lacks bulk and will need guard help for monster sized NT.

But at 6’3” 310 he’s Lou Ferrigno compared to Garrett Bradbury, who’s an inch shorter and nearly fifteen pounds lighter.

Where you getting your information?

Garrett Bradbury is 6'2 7/8" and between 300 and 306lbs according to the draft profiles.

That's not 1" and 15 lbs difference from Wilson. 6'3 and 310. That's an 1/8" and 5-10lbs. And that all depends on what Bradbury's actual playing weight is.
