I know a bunch of us arent thrilled with the value and wished things were different or would have made a different choice but at this point none of that matters. Will Campbell is a New England Patriot and that means i will be rooting for him and hoping to watch a HOF career. Not that i expect that based on his college career but i still want to see it rather then be right about my prediction. Everyone has been so focused on his arm length and drafting a guard at #4 is stupid i think some of the reasons he was picked so high got lost. Here are some positives, this kid is stupidly athletic, like top 1% since they started tracking it athlete. For a guy thats 320 pounds running a sub 5 sec 40 is in its own way as impressive as a WR running a 4.3. Now granted thats even less relevant to a tackle then it is a WR but its an indicator of the athlete we just drafted. Between him and the Strange 69 the left side of our line is probably the fastest one in the NFL and the strech zone they have been trying to install for 3 years now has the horses up front to do it.
Campbell is incredibly football smart. Twists, stunts, blitzes he has seen them all and has an almost 6th sense in picking them up. That killed us last year and having a guy who can help make the rest of the line better is almost as valuable as someone who can dominate a DE 1 on 1
Cambell does have short arms, and a tiny wingspan, numbers i could give a damn about if they didnt show up on tape. Unfortunately the tape does show guys getting thier hands on him and moving him off his spot frequently and it is concerning that it might happen more at the next level. You know what else the tape shows? Even when he does get beat his recovery is fantastic. Its never the first move or the second, he makes his guy earn every inch and have to use multiple moves to get by him. Its not always pretty but i feel like Campbell will give his QB 3 seconds every snap.
Campbell was probably the safest pick in the draft. Obviously injuries arent predictable and can derail anyone and you never know for 100% sure, anyone can be a bust, but i will be shocked to my core if he isnt at least an average starter somewhere on the line for the next 12-15 years. In a draft with questionable talent at the top getting the guy you are 99% sure is at least a single isnt a horrible option.
Overall i am not unhappy with the pick, they got a crazy athlete at a huge position of need and i now we know at least one starting spot is locked down for 2026. Before this pick between age, salary cap, FA status, or just plain lack of talent all 5 spots on the 2026 offensive line were open.
