Predict Patriots draft decision at 4.

Light was quite a bit slower:

And for comparison, Thuney - a bit lighter and shorter arms than Campbell:

SGU,

Thanks for providing this graphic. Feels more and more like Campbell is the right pick for the organization. I'm interested to see what we do with the 2nd rounder pick 38?.. this is where I'm thinking a trade can happen.

I wonder if the Pats leaking their interest in Campbell means anything. Probably not but that's something a team would do if inviting a trade or a team who wants Campbell to jump ahead of them so the Pats can pick the guy they really want...

Here's the scenario. No Hunter or Carter at #4.

Patriots trade back with the Cowboys for #12 and #44 so they can make a big Jerry Jones splash and draft Ashton Jeanty.

With these added picks, the Patriots select:

#12 LT Josh Simmons.
#38 LT Conerly Jr.
#42 WR Jayden Higgins
#69 WR Kyle Williams
#77 TE Elijah Arroyo

We hit the draft hard, early and often for offensive players. Patriots Completely restock talent on the offense side of the ball in the draft. Who says no?
In your previous post you said we should not choose Campbell because he would have to be an outlier because of his short arms.
But now your first pick is Simmons. Who has the same arm length as Campbell.

And a Patella injury...some questions regarding his attitude.... yeah, he's the fkn greatest TRex out there!

It seems like strategic a blunder on their part. Another amateur move. What possible purpose would it serve? No one is gonna want to trade up for Campbell. Seems idiotic. Who is running the show there? Bob?

The right thing to do would have been to leak that they were interested in Jeanty. That would get the competitive juices flowing for those teams obsessed with Jeanty and the Patriots could move back at least a few slots.

Will Campbell - His nickname will forever be T-Rex, who happens to be arguably the most fearsome dinosaur. Plus he's a shoe in to take over Reggie White's Chunky Soup ads.

Edit: What I'd want personally? No f'ing clue except for realized protection for the franchise.

It would be very a very Jete move.

Love that Draft we don't need J Higgins I'm off his bandwagon...anybody but Higgins.

Has Josh ever run a good offense around a feature back? I can't think of any. Josh Jacobs was good but I wouldn't say that about the rest of the Raiders offense.
Stevan Ridley in 2012 and Blount in 2016.
The run game has always been critical in Josh's offense as well as a RB coming out of the backfield as a receiving option.
The question was has Josh built an offense around a featured back? The answer is not really. They've rarely had guys that were tops back in the league where they could dominate the ground. Their strength has mostly been the passing game.

And throwing to the RB has always been a Tom Brady thing since 2001 and continued it in Tampa Bay.

I like Campbell's presence and the way that he comports himself, but I emphatically disagree that he is the safest pick. He's the most risky pick; his tape is not good enough for a top 5 pick; and his wingspan, hand size, and arm length are not there. I would take him if he is there in the 2nd round (not impossible, btw). The pick needs to be Jeanty but I don't hate Warren.
I've made a different proposal, kind of reluctantly saying we have no choice but to get the best LT at 4, which I guess would be Campbell, but I I won't squawk if they choose Warren or Jenty. As long as they grab a really promising OFFENSIVE player at 4, I can live with it. I'm not thrilled with yet another year of half-hearted effort at rebuilding the o-line, which, given the weak array of options, is what looking for an LT after round one would be, but maybe this just isn't the draft to fill that position. That's how I'd talk myself into accepting it, anyway, if they do as you suggest.

If they persist in stockpiling defensive players, though, I'm gonna be pissed. I don't care HOW good they might be. The offensive roster still pretty much blows, right?

I hope his name turns into "Godzilla" and he plays like Godzilla.

[Note: Daisuke Matsuzaka was called Godzilla in Japan--let's hope Campbell does better than Matsuzaka]

My concerns with Will Campbell are less related to his arm length or wing span or any other thing measured in a combine or workout (some of which were also excellent). I'm more worried about game tape and things like % of pressures allowed, where he was really nothing special. He had dominant plays but he wasn't the type of OT who would give up nothing, which is what I want to see in the top OT in a draft.

I predict Pats fans meltdown in about 4.5 hours.
Whoever the pick is, or if it is a trade down - most won't think it was the right decision because its so open this year.

Fact is - last year, in the disaster of Wolf & Mayo - they got the most fan unanimous support for any draft pick in decades.

It is amazing how many of you Vederian Lowe fans, one of the worst LT in the league, just come out of the woodwork.

THEY DON'T EXIST RIGHT NOW IN THIS DRAFT OR FREE AGENCY. HELLOOOOOOOO. You have to take what you can get. We struck out in FA. There is no evidence Simmons or Banks are any better than Campbell. One is an injury risk and the other has the same criticism as Will. Anyone else may not be a day 1 starter. No matter what you claim, Will Campbell is the best lineman in this draft, and a huge upgrade of Lowe.

Over 37 starts, Campbell allowed 4 sacks and 49 pressures. Those are good numbers.

I'm having a hard time seeing how his narrow chest and consequent small wingspan impacts anything very much. It's not like you can block anyone by spreading out your arms. The arm length issue I can see - the longer rushers might be able to get to his chest first. But 33 inches is same as Simmons, and nobody is talking about his arm length.

Here's the analysis I read

How did Campbell's performance last year stack up against other top tackles in this draft?
  • Total Pressures Allowed
    Josh Conerly Jr - 5
    Armand Membou - 8
    Kelvin Banks Jr - 8
    Aireontae Ersery - 12
    Will Campbell - 18
  • QB Hits Allowed
    Armand Membou - 0
    Kelvin Banks Jr - 1
    Aireontae Ersery - 1
    Josh Conerly Jr - 2
    Will Campbell - 5
  • Sacks Allowed
    Armand Membou - 0
    Josh Conerly Jr - 1
    Kelvin Banks Jr - 1
    Aireontae Ersery - 1
    Will Campbell - 2
  • PFF Pass Blocking Grade
    Kelvin Banks Jr - 89.0
    Armand Membou - 86.6
    Josh Conerly Jr - 83.6
    Will Campbell - 80.6
    Aireontae Ersery - 77.4
  • PFF Run Blocking Grade
    Armand Membou - 87.6
    Kelvin Banks Jr - 81.0
    Josh Conerly Jr - 75.6
    Aireontae Ersery - 73.6
    Will Campbell - 69.7
  • So Campbell ranks either last or 2nd to last in every one of these statistical categories, despite all of them playing similar snap counts and playing against similar levels of competition (all players are either in the SEC or Big 10)
