Do you want Will Campbell at 4 assuming Hunter and Carter are off the board?

Unless they think a lot more of Caeden Wallace than most of us, I'd be very open to using two of their first four picks on tackles.
I'm not opposed either.

Let's hope nobody is eyeing Ozzy Trapilo in the Second and we get him in the Third.

I know I have beat this drum to death, but they can't let him get to the Eagles at #64 from what I have read. I guess they have been a BC a lot. You're gonna have to part with either of the R3 picks or next year's R2 to go up and get him in R2.

Dam it Eagles.

I'm kinda on the Greg Bedard program on this. You know he's a high character guy, a leader, and a culture setter. Those things matter, as does playing. If they draft him as a LT and they have to kick him inside and they double dip with an Ersery, Grant or Conerly, and then the line is fixed, I really don't care that they kicked him inside if the line is fixed.
If we kick him inside and used the 4 pick he better be Steve Hutchinson good.

Quenton Nelson was a guard that went 6th overall. I just googled re-doing the 2018 NFL draft. First two links, redoing them 6/7 years later, had Nelson going 3 and Nelson going 5. And thats with Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson as the clear 1 and 2.

A good guard can be worth this high of a pick.

But of course, I think hes a tackle, and if he's taken at 4, I think he's taken as a tackle.

If the team can sign Rashawn Slater next year and that kicks Campbell inside, so be it. Or if they also get Simmons in the 2nd and eventually he takes LT, consider it a fantastic draft that we anchored the line for years. I wouldnt nitpick a guard being taken at 4.

They can't let Ozzy get past the mid-2nd round. Great value and great flexibility. He was good at the Senior bowl at LT and RT. HUGE upgrade over Lowe if Ozzy has to play LT because of injuries (see the Chiefs using a guard, Thuney, in the 2024 SB).

I still maintain they know if he's a Day 1 starter or not already. If he is, they'll go skill position R1 and then Ozzy at #38. If he's their guy, they won't try to get cute and chess/checkers the rest of the league like someone we used to know.

They'll grab him early IMO, if they have determined he's their guy. Obviously, not at #4, but #38 would be early, especially if guys like Ersery or Conerly are there.

I don't necessarily disagree but not BPA.

IMHO based on recent history Trapilo, Ersery, and Grant will be gone by #69. I wouldn’t be surprised if Belton and Pierce are gone by then either.

Thinking about guys who played OT in college but who project better as OG in the NFL, not including Campbell, Banks, or Membou here, I also expect Zabel to be taken in the first and Jackson no later than early second, and Milum to go in the late second.

I’ll be OK with whatever they do at #4, I don’t see a guy in this draft other than Carter or Hunter who I think based on what I’ve seen to this point that I think can be a game wrecker for the Pats. Frankly I even wonder about those two. That being the case I’m not optimistic about getting much for a trade down from #4.

So for me the big hope I have is for them to actually make moves to get up into the first or second rounds and not find themselves in the ****ty position they were in last year after allegedly trying to do that for Worthy, Legette, Coleman and settling for Jolk, and whoever they supposedly tried to get before settling on Caedan Wallace.

I may be OK to just see Wolf and Groh walking out of Gillette with their personal possessions in a box after this draft.

Agreed. It appears as though QB and OT are in such short supply that other teams are overdrafting them leaving a team using the BPA philosophy without Tackles. Unfortunate, but true.

Let's hope the days of drafting Polk for need over Copper DeJean are over even if the Pats have to reach for an OT.

That's the problem with everyone else, too. I'd love them to be able to trade back and take him or Banks in the top 10 and gain a second round pick, but I just don't see there being a demand for other teams to move up to 4 unless Hunter or Carter are there.
Banks is also considered by some to be a guard BTW

I have him as a guard and Campbell a tackle. Initially I had both at G but Campbell will get every shot imaginable to play tackle so I'm moving him there.

Also Logan Brown is a guy to keep an eye on if we pass on tackle early. Athletically and in terms of value he's close to the top on my ptp board.

Music to my ears.

Logan Brown is definitely on the radar. Another guy I like late is Caleb Rogers.

It depends. Kicking him inside is an admission that it’s a wasted pick in most cases. You can find an excellent guard in the 2nd or 3rd round. Are they moving him in training camp? Are they doing it mid season after a rough outing or two ? Or are they doing it next offseason when an opportunity presents itself to get another excellent tackle. If the latter it’s fine, if the former than we blew the pick.

I also would hate the idea of drafting Campbell and also adding a second tackle on day 2 as insurance. You either feel confident he can play the position or you don’t.

I’ve come round to the idea of taking Campbell as the process has gone on but I still have concerns. Plus the arm length will be a conversation forever more. When he gets beat round the corner in OTAS, or training camp, or his first pre season outing. Everyone will constantly be discussing his arm length and whether he needs to go to guard. I’d love my top 5 pick not to have that type of question mark around him.
The big advantage of taking a LT at 4 is it unlocks 3 other picks that could be contributors or even starters. Taking a edge guy mean the patriots must trade up and that carries its own risks.

Thinking of Mankins
If we get a good LT then it’s a big deal
If we get a great LG like Mankins then it’s a big deal
Either way we get a locker room Leader and start to fix this OLine problem
