2025 Draft: Interior Offensive Line

He has that tough, take no prisoners mentality that has been missing from the OL. Onwenu hasn’t provided it that’s for sure.

Campbell-Zabel tandem on the left side would be fun and nasty. Just saying.
Damn auto-correct.

Mbow is another intriguing possibility at center. He could also backup all 5 positions on the OL at a push. I agree with you on a Zabel-Campbell partnership on the left hand side.

Bryce Cabeldue is one of the most athletic interior OL prospects in the draft. He was the LT parter to Logan Brown at Kansas.

Donovan Jackson, the one guy at LG who can stonewall Quinnen Williams of the Jets. Don’t ask Cole Strange to do it.

Could he fill in at LT this year? Notice his intelligence. Shines through. Great player.

He was graded by Lance Zierlein as "an average backup or special-teamer". He's unathletic and graded pretty poorly. I'm struggling to understand why some competition for him isn't a good thing.
If we draft Cambell in the top6 as expected, then I could see us using one of the 3rds for a future IOL starter. Of course, many will think that we will have LG covered with Campbell replacing Strange at LG in 2026.

As you have indicated, perhaps a fine idea is to draft Grant. I suspect that this is right in the high 3rd or with a trade up into the 2nd, even if we draft Campbell.

I suspect that we would be much improved having drafted Campbell and Grant.

I do like that plan. My only issue is that I worry it clouds the issue somewhat, much as drafting two QBs so closely would. If someone isn’t a clear no 1, there’s the risk of clarity if the player picked first struggles a bit in the rookie year. We’ve just seen what Vrabel did with Joe Milton. Does he want that hassle at LT too? Play Campbell at LT this year and if we need to address it again next year, so be it. I’d still go with Trapilo though as RT in waiting and swing tackle this year.

Interesting look at statistically accomplished though less heralded OL prospects in this draft. Most names are familiar: Charles Grant, Grey Zabel, Georgia center Jared Wilson, Wyatt Milum…and Luke Newman. Who’s that? Sounds familiar.

Oh, yeah. Started at LT for Holy Cross from 2021-2023. Graduated with an economics degree. Then transferred ( for a lot of NIL money) to play LG at Michigan State. He’s a Michigan boy.

He did well, except for Mason Graham and Michigan. He faced up against Kenneth Grant in the first half and did surprisingly well. Mason Graham was being controlled by a huge 330 pound guy at RG, Brandon Baldwin. Halftime adjustment, Michigan swapped their DTs. And Mason Graham manhandled Luke Newman the second half like nobody’s business.

Luke Newman may be worth a flier in the seventh round as a backup LG. Smart kid. A smaller Joe Thuney type.

Duplicate my bad

The center position on the Patriots is weak and in flux. The guy they brought in from the Vikings—I can’t believe he was a first-rounder—is too small.

They need to do what Parcells did in drafting Dave Wohlabaugh in the fourth round. The best center by far is reported to be the Georgia kid.

But I think Seth McLaughlin from Ohio State in the fourth fifth round (144) is made for a Patriots selection

I would love to see them bring in Drew Kendall, imo he is the 2nd best true center in the draft. I think Grey Zabel could turn out to be the best if he plays there in the NFL.

Didnt Vrabel say Strange was going to stay at Center? If so, we have much greater things to worry about than replacing Strange.

You might be right, I thought he said he was going to compete at all 3 interior spots but definitely continue working at Center or something to that effect. I took it as they are undecided and will let it play out in training camp.

I am working off memory, so I really am not sure how it was phrased.

Did he?

Or did Vrabel say that Strange would continue to work at center?

I think that Bradbury is the center and that Strange is our LG.

However, we need a 2nd center if Bradbury is injured or turns out to be a dud.

Schweitzer can be the emergency #3; he has started 3 games at center.
==========
THE ISSUE
is backup center. Is either Brown or Jake worth having on the 53? Perhaps yes. Perhaps not.

One option is for Strange to be the backup center if Bradbury is out for a game or more. In that case, we have Robinson and Schweizer compete for reps at LG, perhaps even Sow.

THE IOL'S
Strange, Bradbury, Onwenu
Robinson, Schweitzer
We COULD, perhaps should, carry a 6th. Sow? Brown? Andrews? a new free agent? a draftee? Wallace (and carry 4 other OT's)

Just watching a podcast with both Dane Brugler and Daniel Jeremiah talking about mid round gems. They're pretty positive on Jared Wilson, the center from Georgia. Brugler calls him a plug and play guy whilst DJ says he's a starter that's going to play for a long time. Brugler says his teammates "rave about him as a leader".

DJ is really down on this tackle class. Kept on saying "this is not a good tackle class".

Luke Newman at 238 as a backup LG? Lemme look at footage. Played as a Crusader at Holy Cross for four years. Then cashed in some NIL at Michigan State. Played high school at Brother Rice in Birmingham, Michigan.

Big question. If he figures out center, Bradbury becomes the backup.

Will Sow go back to his natural LG and get his head screwed on right?

Rookie-Sow-Strange-Onwenu-Moses

Could work.
