NFL Draft Talk

I recall hearing that Campbell has far more true nfl style pass set reps than Membou for example.
I’d prefer Campbell to Any OT aside from Simmons.
I don’t think 4 is the spot for one.
But I’ve always had my heart set on Carter or Hunter since week 13 last season.

the likes of Jared Verse; Nic Scourton; Some Georgia kids in '22; Derrick Hall; Byron Young; P. Umenmielen; Darius Robinson; Will Anderson; Dallas Turner; Chris Braswell; Landon Jackson; Drew Sanders; Shemar Steward; Oladejo; Jared Ivey; Kyle Kennard. So even though some are IDL, they do sometimes jump outside on passing plays.
Just saying he more than held his own, especially the last two years, against a talented group of edge defenders.
The issue I have with that list is only Anderson and Verse have proven to be good NFL pass rushers, yeah some of the guys are not in the NFL yet but the others in the list have no more than 3 sacks in an NFL season. Just because they were good in college does not mean they equate to actual NFL pass rushers week in and week out.

Thought Anderson was the clear winner in their matchup and thought Verse also got the better of him overall but not as dominating as Anderson. Those are the only 2 guys on that list I can say are proven good pass rushers in the NFL so just hard to tell how he will hold up facing those types of guys every other week at worst.

Lots to like about Campbell but IMO a great guard and mediocre LT. I think we are going to see as he'll likely be the pick.

Vikings are the obvious team to keep an eye on as they may be our best option to move back into the first round if we don't draft a LT with the first pick.

is this the ultimate stick and pick draft???

I cannot think of anybody worth trading up for

I thought the reps against verse were tough to watch if you want to justify the Campbell pick
I have watched him against Jackson (Arkansas) and turner too
I just believe Campbell is not dominate enough in college that makes me think he will be an above average nfl tackle

Those reps are as a Freshman I believe and Verse was a problem against everyone. Fiske was drafted last year so could be tape from 2023. But yeah, if they get their hands into him it causes problems.
I also mentioned it takes some time for pass rushers to develop into starters in the NFL. Some just don't explode on the scene but become solid contributors at rookie season's end or after a couple of seasons. Example is Byron Young coming along at seasons end for the Rams.

On tape he doesn't offer much in the run game. Campbell is not my First choice at Tackle.

To take Will Campbell @ 4 is Criminal after a Trade Down I cool with that.

We may have to if we don't pick a LT with first pick. Can't sit and wait to settling on Trapilo, though he's ok I guess. Simmons (yes his injury is a big concern), Conerly and Ersery could all be gone by 38. I think all 3 could be good enough to play their rookie year. Not sure any are plug and play though. It's not a great draft though. I think there are 3 studs (Hunter, Carter and Jeanty) and then a drop off. Will Johnson will be really good though.

Simmons at 20 would be perfect.

I would say he faced serious competition 75% of the time.
You honestly think he played serious NFL level talent %75 of the time. Half the teams even on an SEC schedule are crap teams. Even in games the other teams had NFL level DL they wouldn't face each other every snap.

And then even the NFL level guys he did face still have a lot to learn about techniques and ways to beat various traits of the players that are up against.

In the NFL every player will know he has short arms and will know the ways to attack that. What he'll be up against given this obvious flaw is night and day from college to the pros.

Everything else about his game suggests he could just be very much good enough to overcome this but there is just no way around the concern.

And I actually want him so I'm not trying to overplay it but let's not pretend it's not a real concern.

Kenyatta Walker, David Terrell and Deuce McCallister were heavily mocked to the Pats. I wanted Terrell or McCallister. Terrell would've been interesting as Brady and him would've been teammates again. Maybe his career is different.

We all can a agree that LT is a massive need, but seems as though there's a lot of resistance to taking him at #4.
LT is definitely the biggest perceived need right now.

That 2001 draft that netted HOF Seymour at #6 also landed Matt Light in the 2nd rd.

Passing up LT in the first doesn't mean it can't be addressed in the 2nd rd.

Yup, his Fr. year, not counting the Southern U. game he played against 72.7% of NFL players, whether current or future. And top 3 to 4 round players at that.
It was similar in 2023 but dropped off a little this year as they didn’t play Georgia and the Alabama edge talent wasn’t their usual elite level.

Of course there’s a big difference between the two leagues but it’s like that for every player. All of the best young OT’s all had struggles in their rookie season but look at them now. They learned on the fly and got better because of it. He’ll make adjustments and adapt. He’s just too good not to. Some fail and his shorter arms are a real concern but I see him being a legit LT for a long time.

I agree taking the BPA with the first pick over biggest need but if it’s not then you most likely have to trade up to the Vikings pick to secure a LT. Otherwise you hold your breath for 13 more picks and hope one you like falls to 38?

I didn’t realize that the college season started in June.

Weird flex-by-proxy when most college athletes would fully recover from April surgery for a season opener in late August. Talk about twisting yourself into a pretzel to support one of your binkies.
