Should we trade for LT Kolton Miller?

Obviously Josh knows him

Personal life

Miller has a younger brother named Chad. He named Tedy Bruschi as his favorite athlete. Outside of football, Miller enjoys fishing and watching movies.
No denying he's a stud, but 29 and likely would be a stop gap.. we'd have to sign him to a long term contract. Let's say we did trade for him... do we do a 3 or 5 year deal?

He’d be a great option. I’d be all over it.

You know, all of a sudden there is a LOT of negative press coming out about Carter. Things like him having a bad attitude, and him having foot injury issues. Take those items and add questions about, is he big enough to be anything more than a situational rusher; I think the possibility of Carter falling are becoming better than they were last week.

Of course, it could all be the usual smoke screens that teams send out to add confusion to the process. Who knows, maybe the Pats are part of the conspiracy to defame Carter so he'll fall to us. Smart move IF it's true.

As for Kolter, I'd do the trade for one of the 3rds. There will still be some level 2 OLmen there for the Raiders to grab. BTW the Raiders would do that deal, because the thing with comp picks is that you never know if you'll get that bottom of the 3rd pick. If the Raider happen to sign a big time FA that year it might wash off some of that value of their loss of Kolton. I don't know the actual formula of how it works (I miss Miguel) But gains do work against losses.

At any rate a 3rd this year is enough compensation. Kolton is a middle of road LT, top 15-20. He's the kind of guy who I think Campbell will turn out to be as a LT. OK but not a head turner. IIRC he had a rough rookie year before developing into the solid LT he is now.

Coming away with Miller and Carter, Miller and Graham, Miller and Membou would just be AWESOME, especially the latter. It would allow us to have Membou start his career as the back up swing tackle and develop, or even start at RT if he proves the better player. Miller, Strange, Bradbury, Owenu, and Membou would almost immeidately turn a glaring weakness into a strength, with Morgan, Robinson, Wallace, Sow, Lowe and Brown all fighting to be in a back up OL that would be better than what we had out there last year, given another year of experience and health.
I would prefer the proven commodity like a Kolton Miller. This is one of the few times we have draft picks a plenty and cap space. So let's get this deal done. Hopefully one of our 3rds is enough, but I'd even offer our 2nd with a 3rd coming back from the Raiders as long as we lock up that LT position.

I'd rather just Sign Higgins and Ronnie Stanley. They are just as available as Kolton Miller who will be signing an extension with the Raiders in the near future just like Stanley and Higgins.

Could we and will we are two entirely different questions. Should we? If the compensation isn't hideous (and we have to pay him), sure. Will they trade him (as they have the cap space)? Who knows? Besides, like Moses, he'd maybe give us 2 or 3 more years than Moses barring injury. He'd be a definite upgrade, but we'd still need a LT and a RT within the next couple to three years.

Age is just a number G Bolles is going to be 33 real soon and re-upped with the Broncos in FA. K Miller have plenty left.

This makes to much sense for the Krafts to sign off on it.

Yeah, but compensatory picks are arbitrary. Also if you trade for a third round pick now you get to spend the pick in this upcoming draft, if you wait you don't get the pick until next offseason. I don't think it happens but if I was the Pats I'd be on the phone.

It basically becomes a pick in 25, or he stays for this year and they get a comp pick in 27.. I’m pretty sure that’s how it works right. You get a comp the following year right? Two years is a big deal, especially if you’re a GM who’s sitting on an always hot seat.

It’s not just as simple as that either. He could have a bad year, get hurt, etc etc. Then the raiders get nothing. Theres possible traction with this trade.

With offensive linemen, this is close to true, they're still in their primes, usually, until their mid-30s. (Whereas RBs and WRs are traditionally cooked by 30, 31)

I'm not doubting that he has plenty left. I'm also totally cool with them trading for him if it's a 3rd Rounder and/or another late Round Pick/Picks. I was merely inferring that he's not a 10 year+ LT solution. But, he'd buy us time while improving an important area on the OL and allow us flexibility in this particular draft.

I read that they were close to an extension 2 months ago...I guess that didn't go well.

I'd totally do a 3 year deal, with perhaps a voidable 4th year option (because they'll hopefully have a young 10 year+ LT drafted by then). He'd absolutely improve the LT position in specific and the OL in general. They could draft a future RT (Ersery or Trapilo in this draft) because Moses might give us two years and he's older than Miller. And we could use the #4 for a player like Jalon Walker or Tyler Warren, Etc. It would give us more choices in this draft (especially in the 1st Round), even if we trade back.

I'm in.

I said a 3rd as he's 29 and needs a new deal. Maybe it's a 2nd rounder. Not sure.

Imagine how much improved their offense could be if they traded for Miller, drafted Warren, and then packaged a 2&3 to move up and take Egbuka? Or they could go Warren, Trayveon Henderson at 38, and grab a WR in the 3rd?

Warren or Jeanty, I go back and forth on it.

The only problem I see with Jeanty is that you are using a top 5 pick on a guy whose real utility is on his first deal, whereas I really want their top 5 pick to be a serious 10 year contributor.

I think that one of our 3rd Round Picks, and no more than a 5th next year thrown in would get it done. LV is tight with the Cap (I believe it's about 26M before they sign any draft picks). Although someone on here may know their Cap number better than me.
