Draft worst case has emerged for Pats at 4

As I've said more than once, I'm angry at Mayo, but not for winning in Week 18; among other things, the players on the field don't directly benefit from losing or putting bad tape out there.

I blame Mayo for being such a colossal ****up over the previous 17 weeks that they were in that position in the first place.

The frustrating part is that if we were picking #1 and it was TEN/CLE/NYG in the next 3 slots, they'd probably have been able to trade that #1 pick to whoever was picking #3 so that team can take Cam Ward, then at #3 you get whoever is left of Carter/Hunter. Get the elite prospect AND haul of picks. Now we, most likely, end up with neither of those prospects nor a haul of picks.

No sense crying over spilled milk though. As annoying as it is, not really sure what else they could have done. They played backups. The guys on the field and the coaches all have some level of competitive integrity and a desire to make themselves look good for their career arcs. I guess maybe Kraft could have fired Mayo in the week leading up to the game to put the team in total chaos? IDK, could have just as easy had a galvanizing effect as it did help the tank. It is what it is.

All that said, as much as Carter/Hunter are the top 2 prospects, most years someone else emerges. If I had to bet on it, I'd take the field for ending up a better player than one of those guys. It's on the front office to draft that guy if he's out there. Or at the least get #3 if those guys do in fact end up #1 and #2. (All those rankings ignoring QBs, of course.)

At least they have an exciting, experienced, confident backup QB who has won in the NFL.
Oh wait....

If they had the #1 pick Sam would simply be crying about how no one wants to give anything to trade up for it, and then he would blame Wolf for it being a bad year for quarterbacks.

Ownership obviously was upset with how the game was going, but there was nothing they could do about it. Mayo wanted to go out trying to win and screw the Pats future up while Milton thought it was the Super Bowl. They probably wanted to fire Mayo at halftime.

With that said, I don't see any franchise altering players they could be missing out on before they pick.

If Mayo wanted to win the game so badly, he would have kept Maye in. what are we doing here?

We won because guys that didn’t really get to play all year wanted to show out, and why wouldn’t they? average nfl career is like 3 years.

That and Bills played for incentives, not to win the game.

It’s ridiculous people expect guys that are like career special teamers and sixth round picks are supposed to throw a game.

You mean Maye who won one game on his own this year and a team that won 3 games? It doesn't matter who he played. He was more aggressive on both sides of the ball while the Bills wanted the game to end. Mayo clearly wanted that 4th win as he said he'd easily win more than that during the season.

Oh, look, another **** thread posted by Sam
Bam.

.

Still pissed
Now we will walk away with a good but not elite LT instead of hunter or carter
The Day 1 draft next week is so anti climactic

I will always blame mayo for this

We should be anticipating an elite playmaking draft pick but that’s not what we are getting

We would be better off picking at 10-15 in this draft

We will be picking top 10 again next year

This team did better than I expected in free agency, I’m not sure why we’re looking at the #4 pick in the draft as a death sentence.

There’s two players you might want that you could miss out on… Hunter and Carter.

Maybe the Patriots are fools for winning a game they should have lost but it doesn’t sound as stupid as saying “they’d be better off picking 10-15”. I’m guessing you really didn’t think that one out?

Blaming Mayo is idiotic. He was going to be fired, you expect him to do Kraft a favor? Hell no. No self-respecting person in his position would’ve purposefully tanked the game.

I was furious when we won that game and for a while afterwards.

I wasn’t able to see that game. My understanding is that we benched about 5 starters while the Bills benched all of their starters and played 2nd and 3rd string players.

For example, Boutte had 7 catches for 117 yards and a TD. He shouldn’t have been playing. His snaps should have gone to Polk or Baker.

It was a dumb move. Kraft should have fired Mayo before the game and hired an interim to lose.

With the first pick, we could trade down a spot or two, picked up draft capital, and still be in a position to draft Hunter or Carter.

I think Mayo knew what he was doing which explains why Kraft (who loved Mayo) had him escorted out an hour after the game.

I’m 99% over it, but definitely still a bit miffed.

This is such a silly take. Football teams are supposed to win.
