BB's new book has no mention of Bob Kraft - admits shocking mistake

Failure to draft LJ when a Brady succesor was desperatley needed was Bill’s worst GM decision in his time with the patriots.
Has had catastrophic consequences and was the beginning of the end for the dynasty.
RBs like Sony Michel are a dime a dozen

Franchise qbs are ultra rare

It was an easy easy pick and he blew it trying to be “too smart”
How has Jackson worked out for the Ravens?

Choking for 7 straight seasons. 3 - 5 in the post season. A fumbling machine 10 in 2024, 11 in 2023. His fans can go see him in the Pro Bowl every year because he aint in a Super Bowl.

Not what we are looking for.

To be fair, he did seem to do real succession planning with Jimmy G. Then he got his legs cut out from under him by Brady playing longer than seemed conceivable and it not working out to keep both. Feels like he just said **** it and gave up after that though.
That was the beginning of the end for BB and BK.

BB wanted to win one like Tuna did but without Brady. Hard to say what Jimmy would have done in NE as the QB.

always told growing up, If you don't have anything good to say about someone, say nothing.
BB followed that advice.
Can you fault BB?

Yes, BB got paid handsomely, but there is no question that he worked sun up to sun down and earned every penny IMO. 20 years of sustained success always in the hunt for the Super Bowl. 6 banners to show it and 3 more that could have been.

To me it indicates that Bill lacked long term vision and adaptability at this point in his career.
It took 2 decades for the NFL's grand design of competitive mediocrity to break BB and NE.
All dynasties eventually end, most badly.
It's the nature of this sport.
It's how the Full 32 designed it.

Drafting in the 30's every April.
Championship caliber players securing oversized contracts in free agency from desperate teams with buckets of cap space.
Coaching staff raided every off season.

Curious how a team that adopted a win at all costs mentality at the end of Brady's tenure. (Antonio Brown, Sanu) was also going to incorporate a long-term strategy with a GOAT QB Brady who lost his schitt over Jimmy G years earlier.
Were you really expecting BB to use a late #1 on a QB who would do nothing to get Brady and NE more trophies?
Zero chance both ultracompetitive TOM and our completely entitled fan base were suddenly going to be hunky dory with a new "ease into the future" organizational philosophy.

It doesn't work that way in this sport.
It wasn't happening with Brady on the roster.
NE was the exception for an extended period of time.

The great reset took a long time coming, but it was inevitable.

Gave a guy a chance no one was high on.. at the time.. with full power.. RK deserves mention. It's tasteless.
That's not what happened at all.

The idea that no one wanted Belichick? The guy turned down 3 jobs.

The football world already knew very well that he was an excellent coach. Don't kid yourself. He was a known quantity.

Giants, Cleveland, Patriots, Jets. 2 decades of coaching.

Offered 4 head coaching jobs: the Raiders, Lions, Jets and Patriots.

Belichick had all the leverage. He wasn't coming to New England without control. He had already turned down 3 jobs.

Bill was the hottest coaching candidate to come out in 2000. So much so that Bob was willing to cave to Bill Parcells' robbery of a 1st round pick to get him from the Jets.

A lot of people are forgetting what he did in NY from 1997-1999. He gained a ton of attention during the 1999 season when he took down the Pats in the embarrassing MNF loss to the Jets and was one of the only defenses to slow down Manning twice.
Yeah...heard about it on patriots news.. as much success as these great men had together it's pretty classless to not mention RK.. I mean he is the guy who hired Bill and gave him full power.
We'll have to see what the book is about first. Bob should've scrapped the documentary where he blamed Bill for everything. It was a bad look.
Also as a fan on the butler situation the way the Matt Patricia defense that almost lost to Blake borttles was getting carved up in the superbowl does butler make a huge difference?? Just my opinions..
He does. He could've taken on Agholor and Gilmore would've erased Jeffrey.

I dunno about everyone else, but I am really tired of talking about the Belichick/Brady/Kraft divorce and all the hurt feelings and all that chit. I am very excited about the direction under Mike Vrabel and I prefer to really look forward at this point. I don't think you can have 20 year marriages in the NFL with all the ego, and we were really lucky to have it last as long as it did. It's like these guys are fighting for scraps.

RK said himself.. against the wishes of people in the NFL he knew and his personal advisors of not to hire Bill he still did... in his own words.

Regardless both men made $$$ and history together. RK I'd say is worth mentioning..

The way foles was carving up the secondary I'm sure butler helps.. but doesn't stop it. I mean it was just the eagles day..

"We had people from the league office, high-level people telling us not to hire him," Kraft told Guregian."

That's actually a weird thing to say and something the league should stay out of. I didn't like the state of the team going into the 2000 season as Bill stripped the roster with no viable replacements and I lost confidence after the 5-11 season. He took a lot of heat going into 2001 and I didn't think BB was going to last with the team as it was. Even though Bob gave up a 1st round pick to get him, this team was seen as a contender that just needed some help. They were getting worse and not better until Tom took the field.

In an alternate universe, if the Pats were able to have kept their 1st round pick, I think the pick would've been Shaun Alexander.

I actually think that not mentioning Kraft showed extreme class on Belichick's part. After the shameless way that Kraft absolutely smeared him in The Dynasty (aka The Travesty), I think BB exhibited remarkable restraint in not mentioning the neediest man alive.

Oh most definitely I agree with you and upstater1 about bill.. he's a living legend.

Was just summarizing what RK mentioned. Nonetheless.. both men has success together... if in fact RKs isn't mentioned in Bills book it's odd to say the least.

So he didnt trash kraft like kraft did in the dynasty book ?

Both men had 2 plus decades of success together. Bill held a position of HC and GM that became extinct in the NFL as owners don't ever want one person to have so much power. Regardless of how it ended both men attained success together. Alot more highs thans lows.

RK is a blatant liar and always has been

The guy was offered 4 different head coaching jobs.

Was the league calling all those teams before Belichick turned down those jobs?

If so, 1/4 of the league was laughing at the front office when they called.
