We will be watching the first 3 picks for years to come and compare them to the #4 pick. I firmly believe Mayo will be black balled from the league for what he did week 18 if the Pats draft a dud and the 3 picks prior are studs.

Scenario for you - and I'll start this by saying I don't want a RB at 4 overall.

Let's say we draft Campbell, and he becomes a guard because his arms are in fact too small... highly possible right? In fact historically probable.

And - let's also say Jeanty becomes an all-pro back, also highly possible, widely projected even.


In that scenario, a year from now - would we not regret passing on a blue chip offensive player for an average guard? Especially when this is how both players were projected by most?

Assuming Hunter/Carter are gone - What if we took Jeanty R1, trade up for your LT of choice - that's 2 upgrades that help Maye immensely.

An elite back helps the passing game/young QB a lot, and if our O line has 4 players upgraded (RT, C, LG, LT to go with Onwenu), and a better coach/scheme by all accounts then we should be able to run it heavy next year.

The other half of me still thinks it's nuts to take a RB at 4 but this scenario popped into my head. Alright tell me I'm nuts

I don’t think it’s nuts at all. If they have Jeanty rated with Carter and Hunter as top tier players, and believe they can still get a good left tackle prospect, then I’m sure it’s one of their options.

If Hunter & Carter are both gone, then getting the OT is fine as long as it's after a trade down. I don't see anyone wanting to trade up to 4 unless it's a QB-needy team going for Sanders - everyone else will probably just take who falls to them. The only teams in the top 15 in the QB market are the Jets at 7 and the Saints at 9. Unlikely we'd deal with the Jets - you never know but more likely it's NO. They have a high 2nd (40), two 3rd's, and two 4th's. They may be willing to part with their 2nd, cause they can move back into the 2nd round by packaging their extra 3rd & 4th. So if that were to happen, we'd have:
- at 9, hopefully either Campbell or Membou is still there; if not then Banks or Simmons
- then we'd have two high 2nds (38 & 40), two high 3rds (69 & 77), and a high 4th (106)
- could move up from 38 to r1: either 38+40 to get up to 16, 38+69 to get to 24, or 38+106 to get to 31.

I wouldn't have a problem with it, but it's hard to picture the 2 teams making a major trade in the top 10. Trading back to 7 would be an ideal landing spot.

Agreed. This is one draft where conventional wisdom needs to be put on pause. Can easily see a scenario where Jeanty goes on to be a stud for another team and we wonder why we didn’t just take him instead of the tackle with the historically short wingspan (especially when tackles taken after him end up better). As you can tell I’m still a bit scared of Campbell.

There’s a lot of players that “aren’t worth the 4” but that is being measured by other draft classes. There are two QB needy teams out of the first three drafting that are likely to skip on QB in the first round despite it being their biggest need because the draft doesn’t have the right guy for them in that spot. If the Browns and Giants don’t force themselves to take the most important position in football because they’re not sold on Sanders, I see no reason why the Pats should force themselves to take a LT at 4 if he’s not the 4th best overall player on the board regardless of position.

I would rather “overdraft” on a non-premium position like RB (Jeanty) or TE (Warren) while still helping Maye on offense for the foreseeable future, than to bet on an outlier at LT (Campbell) out of desperation and risk wasting a premium draft pick on a bust. Jeanty and Warren are less likely to bust IMO and should be considered even if I’m typically not a fan of taking those positions that high. They would be the best players available regardless of position IMO and we need to collect talent. If the Pats got a guy like Ozzie Trapilo in the 2nd or 3rd round I think we’d be happy with it.

Light and Vollmer were second rnd picks. So yeah, i would rather see them take a top tier player and get a tackle in the second rnd. There are enough concerns about cambell that i don't want to spend that kind of 1st rnd capital on him.

Noboduy is taking Matt Light or Cole strange at 4.
It’s the definition of over drafting for need.
Where if Stanley would have shook loose we could be spared from this.
In my option too 5 picks either win games or wreck games for you.
Nothing else should be considered as a top 5 pick.
And a pick Like Campbell could but a huge Bruise on Vrabels regime.

It doesn't matter who Mayo played, he was playing to win the game. Milton was playing hero ball with his scrambling and chucking it downfield. As an Owner with the #1 pick on the line, you don't want to see that **** now when your team was incapable of winning throughout the season.

Buffalo on the other hand, was just trying to get the game over with. There's a reason why Mayo was fired immediately after the game and not given the decency of the next day. I would've taken it a step further and canned his ass at halftime. He's also completely disappeared from the NFL which isn't surprising. Not shocking that Milton was just shipped out as well.

I have no problems when teams with Super Bowl aspirations sit guys like the Pats did at times during the dynasty. This just happened to be a very weird scenario where the Bill were playing a team that was one loss away securing the #1 overall pick. But it's a bad excuse when people defend a team like Buffalo and not the Pats who had nothing to gain by winning the game.

Jeanty creates imaginary holes love his running style and he can also catch. The Selection wouldn't be a Shocker but it would help Maye's development a lot.

Trade down with Saints for their 9th pick, get their 2nd round pick (40) out of it. Take Tyler Warren at 9. Then trade back into the 1st with the Bengals for both 2nd round picks, get Josh Simmons at 17.

and have Lowe start at LT (until Simmons is ready) with Wallace as the backup for Game 1. What a plan!
