Do people REALLY think Membou, a RT, IS Better than Campbell at LT?

I am warming up to Campbell actually…. I mean if he doesn’t pan out at LT…he is at least a 10 year Joe Thuney starter at LG. That will stabilize 4 spots on the OL with Lowe, Campbell, Bradbury, Onwenu, and Moses. We have competition/pipeline players behind Bradbury and Moses. And some team might be willing to move their LT at the trading deadline in October anyway OR we can trade back into the 1st and take Simmons or stand pat and take the BC or Oregon LT in round 2.

All I know is that you are never sorry over drafting trench players….I am not even sorry about the Strange pick.

What is better? LOL

1. Moses at LT, Membou at RT
2. Lowe at LT, Moses at RT
They are all not good but....

Campbell at LT, Robinson/Sow LG, Moses at RT is functional

Or

Lowe at LT, Campbell at LG, Moses at RT is not bad for a year.

If it’s been said and I missed it….sorry. If he was an NFL caliber LT….he would have been at LT at Mizzou.

He’s only 20 and didn’t start playing football until high school.

I agree we can live with the above. Even better than your two choices:

Moses at LT, Robinson/Sow at LG, and Membou at RT.

Moses is better at LT than Lowe, and Membou is better at RT than Moses. Campbell would be welcomed as well, but with Campbell at LG is a failure at fixing the tackle problem. This is kind of obvious so I am not sure why you have dug in your heels otherwise.

Trade our 1st and 2nd Round Picks this year to the Chargers for either Slater or Alt. Either way, they have a good for 10 years stud Pro Bowl LT (they can draft a Day 1 starter at RT in the 2nd Round), and we get a good for 10 years Pro Bowl LT. They can use the #4 Pick for an impact defensive player, or another weapon for Herbert. Or, they can trade back and still improve their team and still have a Pro Bowl LT (Slater is already one and only 25 and Alt who's a natural LT played RT as a Rookie and made the All Rookie Team and Pro Bowl). It would be a win-win for both teams. Yes, everyone on here down to their 3rd Cousin will say that the Chargers have no reason for such I trade. I disagree. Maye NEEDS a solid OL (not just for pass protection, but also for run blocking), and that's largely dependent on a solid, if not stellar LT. The Patriots should at least try to make this trade happen.

I think our Offensive Line will look totally different than it currently stands after the draft and then after the draft FA need pickups and then cutdown pickups
As Vrabel said in an interview. He said Highsmith told him we are never done adding throughout the year
Vrabel stressed that the rebuild would start with the trenches
He kept his word in FA on DL pickups (Williams, Landry, Chaisson and Tonga) to go along with Barmore and White
I believe he will keep his word on the OLine also.
We have plenty of money. High draft picks. Plenty of still much needed help.
I think by training camp we have a new LT, LG and possibly another backup IOL
That is to go along with Bradbury, Onwenu and Moses.
Strange, Schweitzer, Sow, Robinson and Wallace as rotational players.
I believe our trenches will be solid enough to compete
I have faith that Vrabel will keep his word. Not for us but for him and the team

Graham only makes sense at 4 if Barmore can't go. Too rich for a rotational player.
Can't count on Barmore. His issues will be recurrent (nevermind that he's risking his life every time he takes a hit -- moreso than the average player).

That’s a terrible analogy. A LT doesn’t “play left handed”

I will say however that when I was in high school I broke my left thumb on the football field and did learn how to write right handed while I had a cast on. It wasn’t very hard.

It’s football. The difference is whether the qb is on your left or your right. You still have to block the guy
Yeah. I was ambidextrous until I broke my left elbow last day for first grade. Spent the summer with left arm immobilized. Became a right handler. Except, things I came to later in life with no pre-existing experience, I was still left handed. There is something fundamental about chirality.

At #4?
Id prefer to trade down too

I was like hell no to taking a RT at #4 before i put on the tape and watched for myself. Things i look for when watching college tape, and i will admit its more eye test then production, do you look like an NFL player? Having watched very little college football most college players stick out like a sore thumb to me, too small, too slow, not talented enough. So when i am watching i want to see domination, it should look like the 10 year old playing in the 8 year old league because thats what everyone in the NFL is. Its a while nother jump in class and ability that only the best of the best play in.

Watching Campbell i saw a flawless technician that is always in the right spot at the right time, but he does let people get hands on him and nothing he did jumped off the screen making me say wow! This is not a dominant player that makes other guys look like they arent in the same class as he is, he is just really smart and really good. I would expect him to be somewhere in the 10-20th best tackle or guard in the league for a long time. Worthwhile? Of course, but i'd want more from a #4 overall pick.

Membou on the other hand, multiple times watching i want wow look at the feet! He flat out stonewalled his man and got some tasty nasty pancakes in the run game. He looks dominant. He is younger and not nearly the technician Campbell and there is a risk to him being unable to switch sides but i am all in taking him at #4 IF Carter isnt there, a haul with at least a #1 next year for Hunter/taking Hunter, or a trade down to 8-11 picks up a 2nd doesnt work for other teams. Basically no other options, Hunter and Carter are gone Membou is my guy

If he was an NFL caliber quarterback he wouldn’t have been backing up Drew Henson at Michigan. He will just be a back up in the NFL.
I must have missed the part where they also had him switch positions. Brilliant comparison.

Hi Pal
I believe that was when he had the false measurements of 32 5/8 arm length
He is now at 33 inches ( can’t believe we are talking about less than a 1/2 inch)
His wingspan of 77 1/2 inches is short
Does the new arm length still put him in that category of first player with those shortcomings
Penni Sewell had 33 1/4 arms and 80 1/2 inches wingspan
Not that far off from Campbell
Penni is a 3 time Pro Bowler
Hey bud. Sewell has done it with 81 inch wingspan. The average is 82. So he's close enough to average. Campbell's 77 inches wingspan is 6% under the average and nearly 10% under ideal wingspan. It's historically short.

Now throw away those numbers because that data isn't meaningful in of itself.

It's merely one possible explanation for the shortcomings that show up on tape. Forgetting specific numbers and measurements, the important takeaway is that the tape shows Campbell's reach is problematic for an OT prospect. It's a sharp contrast to scouting reports on Sewell which highlighted his reach as a strength despite the measurements.

Note: These are just my thoughts from pooling together data and scouting reports from those who watch and understand tape. I can't tell you anything definitive myself. I'm just your average overly obsessed fan who wastes way more time on this than he should.

The comparison has already been provided elsewhere. Basically most LTs started as a RT somewhere and switched while still young (Membou is 20, turns 21 this month). Most notably Tristan Wirfs and Trent Williams were college RTs who transitioned to the other side in the NFL.

This is depressing. I can't remember a draft without a bona fide 1st round left tackle prospect worthy of a top 10 pick.

If the G is a sure-fire all-pro and you want to run the football and protect the QB from up the middle pressure you do.

We have different draft philosophies. Moving on.
You don't need to spend the 4th overall pick to achieve that.

It's not about "draft philosophies" or building through the trenches. Everyone wants a strong OL. It's about recognizing the value in said prospects, positions of need and positions of impact on Sunday. If you can't gage the value on prospects or understand that pass rushers and wr are more valuable than a G. It doesn't matter what your "draft philosophy" is.

FWIW, I heard Dane Brugler on his podcast say that the reason Membou didn't move to LT was because the Mizzou staff didn't feel like their LT could play RT. Same sort of scenario as Tristan Wirfs at Iowa. Wirfs played RT because their staff felt like Alaric Jackson was much better at LT than he was at RT. Wirfs made the transition to LT in the pros, and he's done it rather successfully.

And not for nothing, but...

Membou is worth more to a team that wants him to start his rookie year at RT.

Every time I see the name Membou I think of this. The late 90's was really weird.
