Abdul Carter vs LT at 4?

A lot of our discussion has assumed Abdul Carter would be drafted before Travis Hunter and that Hunter may fall to us at 4. But what if Hunter is taken first and Carter is availabe at 4. We've already built up our defense through free agency, so do we take Carter or a LT at 4?
Carter hands down. Players who sack the QB at an elite level end up winning games. We saw that in the Chiefs/Eagles Superbowl.

No need to reach for a mid tackle like Campbell who might end up moving to guard anyways.

If we take Carter at 4, then move up to bottom of 1st for a starting caliber tackle prospect.

If it was Joe Alt vs Carter, it'd be Joe Alt, if It's Carter vs any Tackle in the 2025 draft it has to be Carter.

Carter in a heartbeat.

If Carter falls to us, we take him.

If we do draft Carter at 4, how safe is Keyon White on the medium-term? Do they play the same role?
I firmly believe that White is a man child, and with the CORRECT COACHING, that he will be a FORCE.
We'll see, I EXPECT Big things , but could be disappointed.

How many SBS has Dallas won with Parsons, Dak, And Lamb?
Exactly zero.
Are they the ONLY team?
We spent a boatload on Defense already, Is Drake going to be on his ass trying to feed the "Superstars" some people want?
When the Defense is on the field for 36-40 minutes, they FAIL, because the men, that are unbelievable, are too fkn tired.
Look at 2006 AFCCG for proof ...that's not the latest, but so expressive for the discussion.

I don't believe you can win with a ****y OL.
WE HAVE GAMES that prove IT, CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES.
Look it up, it's pretty fkn EZ.

Sick of this crap, you guys want Shiny toys, I want MEN that are going to ALLOW guys to shine.

Do we HAVE those guys?
No.

White is like 280# so more of a 3-4 DE or a 4-3 DT, hes a guy you say set the edge and if you get the QB along the way great. Carter is 240# and an Edge player or 4-3 DE or OLB, hes the guy you line up in a wide 9 and say go get em expecting 10-15 sacks a year. Completely different players with vastly different roles. This defense is an Edge, coverage LB and FS away from being top 5 in the NFL. I would say Edge is the most important missing piece we dont have a 10-15 sack guy so if Carter is there i am sprinting up to the podium. Then use the rest of the draft on offense double dipping at tackle if you have to. White, williams, barmore, Carter would be a bonkers 3rd down d line and i am all over it.

Thanks for the answer

Carter and Hunter would be worthy of the 4th pick for all accounts

But *insert offense rant*

well dang, if you want to ugh even my bad jokes, then no more like for you sir idiot

Mute is a really good function.

If Hunter is gone, trade down. From what I have see, Carter is not worth a number 4 selection. I watched him rush the QB through huge, gaping holes, not run over/around anyone; he is not Lawrence Taylor.

Since the Patriots have a recent history of first round disappointments, I fully expect them to make the most boring of all picks and take Will Campbell, T-Rex arms and all. If they take Campbell and Hunter is still on the board, I will be hurling things at the TV.

AS far as how to deal with this:

Recent 1st round disappointments like Gonzo and Maye?
More like Strange, Wynn and N'Keal Harry.

Maye was obviously a good pick, but, to me at least, it was boring because it was so obvious. A trade down would have been very exciting and nail biting because the Patriots would have had to gamble that they could still pick a legit QB like Penix, and, I suspect, they could garnered enough draft capital to get a legit LT.

Wynn and Harry were the 2018 and 2019 drafts. 7 years ago. Not really "recent". The draft guys involved in 2018 and 2019 are not presently employed by the Pats.

No need to overthink the draft. Take the BPA. If it takes 2 or 3 years to rebuild that is OK. I find selecting top draft picks like Gonzo and Maye very exciting. Let's get Hunter or Carter this year. 3 years and 3 top guys is very exciting going forward.

Didn't we hear Carter had a bum foot.... am I just imagining this?

Also they signed Landry, already have Jennings and added Chaisson... they're pretty deep at OLB.

Add another one? I'd rather take the best DT or OT on the board, Mason Graham or Armand Membou.

Outside speed rushers are nice, but if you get no push on the interior they can be negated. Barmore might be finished, they can't work under the assumption he is returning and there's a big gaping hole at left tackle.

It's probably moot because if Carter slips to 2 or 3 and the Browns or Giants don't want him, someone else will jump us and take him.

Our dilemma is that if we don't take an OT with our first pick, there's a good chance that the best 6 OT's will be gone in the first round or top of the 2nd: Membou, Campbell, Banks, Simmons, Connerly, & Ersery. We need to land one of those guys, so if we go DL or WR then we'll need to give up significant draft capital to move up from 38 to say 26-28: more than one of our 3rd rounders, probably both 3rd's or a 3rd & 4th). We can't be giving up picks like that.

Our best move is to trade down to the 6-10 range, getting at least a 2nd rounder. Then take one of the top 3 OT's, or a stud at another position knowing we can move back up to the low to mid 20's with the 2nd rounder we acquired from the move-down. So we end up picking at say 10 and 22 instead of 4 and 38.
knowing that we can move back into the 2nd?

Maybe, maybe not. Besides, we have clear preferennces.

I can’t see us picking a non-LT with our top 10 pick.
