I’m willing to wait and see on Polk. Wolf obviously **** the bed with the trade down strategy (HATE that strategy) to select the lesser talent in Polk. Should’ve stayed put and drafted McConkey. The whole world could immediately see that was a massive mistake.

That being said, it’s too early to cut bait on Polk. Let’s see what he does with new coaching. Maybe he’ll make a Boutte-like jump in year 2.
I agree with you. We also have to remember just how ****ty everything was last season. The coaching, the OL the QB position prior to Drake. Mconkey would definitely had thrived with drake.. but would he had been as productive with last years set up?

I agree. While Polk's rookie year was a train wreck, with a new HC, OC, position coach, offense and Day 1 starter at QB plus better o-line (hopefully) that'll give him a fighting opportunity to be better.

If he still struggles, hes gone.

It was a bad move, yes everyone knew it then, but it is also true that coaching staff last year was objectively incompetent. Polk MIGHT still turn into something serviceable. Baker, on the other hand, may have been even worse.

On the room as a whole. I figure they are drafting at least one guy this year.
My takeaway from Reiss' comments on him, Diggs would be a good influence setting an example of how to meticulously work at mastering route running.

that's not a fact

but it's a good sign

I think, once the first domino of this veteran WR market falls, the others will follow.

Sign him. Even if it's expensive, sign him.

Andy is Ring 6, he used to have the name Andy Johnson before he forgor his password

Polk is worse than a Jag. He is not "just another guy" he's literally worse than every other guy

Haha…I was just going to say “let’s not insult JAG’s by calling Polk a Jag at this stage. JAG is an aspirational goal for him as of today”.

He seemed to mesh well as the 2nd option in Houston. The guys there liked him. Dunno.

There have been guys who came to NE who were A-holes elsewhere but were great assets here. Aqib Talib comes to mind.
Serious question...His stats were looking good before the injury and teammates all raved about him. Why do you think Houston didn't get him signed? Production from other receivers on the team? Money? I mean they signed Barrios and Watson but they are depth players at bet.

I believe I read that they only wanted to extend so far because he is coming back from injury and they already have other good receivers rostered. So, Diggs is seeing if he can get a better deal somewhere else while also being that team's top dog instead of being #2/#3.

Yeah I will say this: Diggs can’t fairly be put in a Brown category. Brown is an unmitigated human piece of trash. Zero reports about Diggs being a bad PERSON. Just a typical WR diva which isn’t unusual. In fact, I recall when Demar Hamlin had his Cardiac Arrest, Diggs WALKED to the hospital to check in and be there for him right after the game.

Bad humans don’t do that.
From what I've read, Diggs is actually a good person with an oversized ego.

Not sure but there could be a number of reasons. The Texans fired their previous OC Bobby Slowik and hired Nick Caley to replace him. They traded for Christian Kirk to be their new slot receiver with Tank Dell likely missing the entire 2025 season. They may still be in the market for another boundary receiver across from Nico Collins but it's possible that Diggs' questionable injury status along with contract demands might be the obstacle that had them look elsewhere.

Would be nice to see him turn around...Hate to see another bad pick at WR, enough is enough already.

When did we start believing that good football players aren’t important and it’s ok to have the worst WR corps in the league, by far, and find excuses to not want to improve it.
Boston in general does not like Divas. The WR position has by far the most divas, hence the people who say Pop works hard and he can be the guy. Like it’s far and away the worst WR room in the league. They need to upgrade by any means necessary and yes that means you’re going to have divas. Sorry it’s just how it is. AJ Brown before last year people didn’t want because of his diva attitude, now he won and everyone is like yeah AJ Brown isn’t a diva, yes he is. All good WRs and CBs are.

My guess is they'll plan on 4 gameday active receivers. Boutte and Douglas are near-locks to be 2 of them because of these decent production last year and their youth. Ideally it would be as the 3rd or 4th guy.

Right now it's Bourne/Baker/Polk fighting for the other 2 spots. Based on how bad the latter 2 were next year, Bourne has the inside track for one of those spots. If they add a guy like Diggs through FA then he still has the inside track on the other open gameday spot. But a second acquisition would push him on the outside looking in.

The big issue for Bourne is that if he's not a key part of the gameday active receiver group, incentive to keep him goes down. You're not going to keep him as a gameday inactive over younger developmental guys.
If we draft 1 or 2 WRs, along with Signing Diggs,
Two of the current WRs are gone.
I would guess Bourne is the one out due to age/cap, then it’s Polk, Baker, Boutte fighting it out:

Diggs also utilizes very good releases and is able to stack CBs pretty easily

Fast forwarding to later tonight/tomorrow.

"Diggs leaves Foxboro without a deal, but NE remains interested"
followed by
"Patriots sign JAG undrafted ILB nobody has ever heard of"

So if last year Houston signed him for one year at $22.52 million what should NE offer him? Two years 35 million + incentives?

Considering he's coming off the ACL, he's probably not going to get better than that. 2/30 with the 2nd being one of those kinda-option years they've been doing and a nice guarantee, would probably be enough to get it done.
