Player Signing Patriots sign Center Garrett Bradbury

Bad info doesn’t become good info in the absence of other info
Football is a complex game and tough to grade. It's very difficult to truly isolate one player's hand in a particular play without an in depth knowledge of what the play call is and how their responsibility is dictated by the guys around them. There will never be any metric that you can one size fits all slap across players team to team. No statistical analysis of football is ever going to be "good info".

The reality is that none of us are going to be able to break down film of all 64 centers who played X number of snaps and talk to their coaches to get a detailed understanding of what their responsibilities are on different playcalls so we can grade each play and then compile a master list from team to team and rank them. That's the only way to really get "good info". PFF and sites like that have people who did the legwork on a lot of that for you. Not perfect because while they have time, they're still limited in how much in depth knowledge they can have.

Who is Bradford?

You overvalue WRs dramatically
Darnold, whatever his name is. Sam. You know who I’m talking about.

You underrate them substantially. You were spoiled with years of Brady carrying weak crops to the superbowl. That’s over with dude. Get used to last place and minimal QB production if we don’t invest resources into getting players who can score touchdowns and put fear into defensive coordinators

This is a great signing, everyone should be happy.

Kind of interesting that McDaniels' old center signed shortly after this. I wonder if he was a contingency plan we were in contact with.

He was in my mind

Some things never change. Only here at Patsfans could a $3.8M in guarantees prove it deal at a position of need to a former 1st round pick with a history of being a reliable starter on a 14 win team be seen as a bad move. Bradbury is just another potential piece in a puzzle that has yet to be assembled. Patsfans 'Oh no $3.8M in cap space gone' also Patsfans 'F'n Wolf needs to do something about this OL'
Give it a hot minute, if it ends up a mistake at least it will be a cheap one
This^ it’s like no one looked at the contract. We KNEW they would sign a bunch of “opportunity” guys.

And they had to.

You don’t go from worst roster in the NFL to all-pro’s in one year especially when no one wants to play in your city until/unless you prove that you know how to play even functional offense.

There are a disproportionate number of position-flexible interior dudes in the draft: Zabel, Mbow, etc who could play G,C, or possibly even Tackle.

Draft a couple and see what happens.

My understanding is this. Last season he was one of the worst starting centers in the NFL, particularly as a pass blocker.... but before that he was okay. Never great but better than last year.... servicable as a pass blocker though still not much good at it... just not complete garbage Is this correct or am i wrong?

If so i am okay signing someone coming off a bad year. We don't know what injuries may have happened or what outside circumstances may have caused him to have a down year and a bounce back is very possible.
The reports/narratives say he was always a terrible pass blocker but good run blocker. He was only serviceable for one year, the final of his rookie deal, which led MIN to re-signing him only for him to regress back to his norm as a pass blocker and thus them now having replaced him this offseason.

So it's not one bad year of pass blocking and being serviceable otherwise, it's one year of serviceable and the rest bad. But at this stage of FA, there aren't guys great at everything left and our C depth chart was headed by a guy in Ben Brown who sucked at both last year. So it's a fine signing for marginal improvement. Ideally he's replaced before that 2 year deal is up, but not the end of the world if he isn't. Serviceable JAG starter when you net strengths and weaknesses.

PFF grades and comments i read online. That is why I'm asking for more details, as that isn't great for a full picture.
It sure isn't. Not trying to be critical, but Bradbury seemingly has a pretty solid history and reputation.

What am saying is PFF stinks at evaluating players. They always have.
Whether it’s hard or easy, doesn’t matter they stink and you can’t rely on them. Their rating system is flawed. For example a QB gets a higher ratings for making a bad decision to make a difficult incomplete pass into coverage than to make the right decision and completed an easy pass.

When an evaluation is ****ty it’s ****ty and using the argument that it’s the only one there is doesn’t make it not ****ty.

It’s like bringing you to an art gallery and saying I don’t know anything about art but these are the ones Ray Charles says are great.

He’s a 29 year old former first round pick with 88 career starts.

Yep, it'll be great to have the Great Wall between Maye and harm but between now and then it doesn't hurt to have some guys who can at least hold down the fort.

It adds a body to the competition for sure. I just don’t think that it improves the « protect Drake Maye category »

Except that Bradbury doesn’t hold the fort much better than Ben Brown

Certainly NOT worse.
Ben Brown had 1 good game I saw, and it's because that team had good EDGE Rushers instead of guys in the middle.

A good signing for depth and not to leave us in the position we were last year, but by no means is this likely a long term solution.

We need to upgrade the line in all positions, other than maybe RG. Before Strange got hurt, he was at best an average player who most believed wouldn’t get a 2nd contract with the Pats. Moses is fine but he’s old. We all know the issue at LT. Bradbury has pass blocking issues.

We still need an influx of talent on the line over the next couple of years.

We can address the O-line in rounds 2-3 of the nfl draft. Plenty of good options for the long term
