he had one injury, played through it, it impacted performance.....when healthy he graded well???
He was a first round pick at guard who was benched multiple times. I’m not an expert on guard play. But the experts doing the grading did not agree.

Patriots Could Look To Sign Vikings Center in Wake of David Andrews News

The New England Patriots unfortunately cut ties with David Andrews yesterday after spending nine years with the organization. Now, for the first time in a long time, the Patriots need a center, and the opportunity to sign an experienced one may have just knocked on their door. The Minnesota Vikings released center Garrett Bradbury after being the Vikings' starting center for six years.

The Vikings recently made plans to sign Ryan Kelly, who was the starting center for the Indianapolis Colts, meaning that they would most likely part ways with Bradbury. It was first reported by Chad Graff of the Athletic that the Patriots would most likely be interested in Bradbury if he did end up getting released. Then, a few hours later, Adam Schefter tweeted that the Vikings were going to release Bradbury, and that opened up speculation of whether the Patriots would make a move.

Bradbury was the Vikings' first-round pick back in 2019. Since then, he has started every game he has played in and he even has recorded two catches for 17 yards in his career as well. He also only has 23 penalties in his six years in the league, averaging just under four per year.

Bradbury had to deal with a lot of different quarterbacks in his time in Minnesota. Kirk Cousins, Josh Dobbs, Sam Darnold, and a few other quarterbacks have gotten to receive a snap from Bradbury. He has dealt with experienced quarterbacks and young quarterbacks, so he knows how to deal with any type of signal caller.

This would be perfect for young quarterback Drake Maye to play with an experienced center who has had to deal with some young quarterbacks before. Bradbury can give tips on how other quarterbacks do things while also being able to protect Maye very well. Drake Maye is also arguably the most talented quarterback that Bradbury would have played with.

Bradbury is 6-3 300 pounds, and only 29 years old. He is an absolute unit to put in front of Drake Maye, and with his pass-protection abilities, once he and Maye form a connection, they should be a hard duo to shake up. Bradbury is also one of the best run-blocking centers in the league and could help the Patriots reestablish their run game.

With the Patriots now in need of a center and most likely not wanting to have to draft one, Bradbury might be their best option. He may cost a little bit of money, but to lock down their center for the next few years, it is worth it to give out a long-term deal.

Feels like a no brainer for me. He costs $5M on a 1 year deal if we trade for him. It's all non-guaranteed so no commitment if they decide they want Strange or a rookie at center, or even JAndrews or some other unheralded signing like that Jets guy beats him out in camp. He's a terrible pass blocker but great run blocker, but if the season started today he'd clearly be, on paper, a part of their "best 5" on the line with Lowe at LT, Strange at LG, him at C, Onwenu at RG and Moses at RT.

If they let him get to FA, his old college OL coach is on the Falcons and he's from/played college in North Carolina which ATL is much closer to, so it could be risky to try and let him hit the FA market first. Like I said, it's only $5M and all non-guaranteed. How much better a deal do you think you can get him on?

My guess is Andrews learned that his shoulder is shot and couldn’t play anymore. They simply released him to allow him to get his money.

I just can’t see Vrabel consistently talking about culture, relationships and characters guys and coldly cutting the player that embodies those values the best.
You'd think. But they cut him, and let wise and jones go for peanuts. Maybe they really want to wipe the slate clean?

I value all three players, but they were on the downside. It was time.

Easily.

1) pay the player
2) treat them fairly personally and professionally
3) be honest with them

Additionally we have no idea what the discussions between Andrews and the team consisted of. They may have asked him to take a pay cut and he said no ( see Amendola, Troy Brown, Lawyer Milloy). They may have told him they didn't think his shoulder would recover quickly enough and they wanted to add players and he said to release him.

On the surface it looks cold but a) thats the NFL and b) there is always more to the story.

Wise wasn't a system fit.

Keep in mind JJ last two years his coverage stats have not been good at all and has ZERO picks.

I still wish they had kept Jones on the cheap as hes a quality pro but my gut tells me they just wanted to go younger at DB and felt they could upgrade the position.

When Scott Zolak -- Mister Glass-Half-Full (so fill her up again!) -- takes issue with the Pats' personnel management, it's serious. Clearly, this isn't the parting that DA wanted or, I think, deserved.

Are we really in on Bradbury? We just signed Scheiwtzer.

Oh looks like Bradbury had issues with big DTs. Hmm. Would be a meh pickup but we need competition for Strange.

"Bradbury's PFF pass blocking grades were abysmal for his first three NFL seasons, putting his future with the Vikings into question heading into the final year of his rookie contract in 2022. He put up the best pass-blocking season of his career in that first year under Kevin O'Connell, ultimately earning a three-year, $15.7 million extension. But his grades slipped back to subpar levels over the last two seasons, and Bradbury was charged with a career-high 38 pressures allowed in 2024."

article: Bradbury to be released by Vikings.

Strange is not what this board calls a JAG. Strange is a below average starter at LG or C. If we cut him, he will be signed somewhere else.

I think Strange is a good OL who has been on a bad OL, and that makes everyone look bad.

A caller called into Beetle and Zo this morning and said he ran into Andrews at a hotel in Miami and said that Andrews told him that he was being cut. Now of course it could be BS. I don't think he is the same guy who posted the original rumor in the OP because he claimed he had no blue checkmark.

Again, it is probably BS and someone pushing this rumor, but I figured I would pass it along.

Was it Angelo from Everett? Because other than Frank from Gloucester no one is tied in closer to the Kraft’s. Those guys all used to drink wine out of brown paper bags outside of Schaeffer stadium. And Frank is Jonathan Kraft’s Godfather.

Naah Strange has not proven himself to be "good" by any means. His main problem is he can't even stay healthy. The Patriots are trying him out at Center now because he didn't light the world on fire at guard. Strange and Harry are both of Bill's biggest boondoggles, 1st round busts and wasted opportunities to improve the roster.

The excuse-making has to end. We need to find players for the OL who can protect the quarterback and block. Very simple.

If you want a David Andrews clone on Day 3 or as an UDFA, I would suggest Jake Majors from UT.

At this moment I would love them to sign Tyron Smith assuming he clears medical, he gives them an instant upgrade at LT while still allowing them to draft a LT. Smith will miss games this year as will Moses, but those 2 guys have done it at a high level for a long time and will help establish a professional mentality in the OL room along with Marone.

Not saying this guy is a world beater, but feels like a no brainer to pursue, IMO. We have 3 guys on the roster with C experience...

1) Ben Brown, who graded as one of the worst in the game last year.
2) Cole Strange, who has 2 games played at the position in the NFL and never really played it before.
3) JAndrews who was seen as a reach by most in the 4th round and then as a rookie looked bad in the preseason at the position (played well in a couple of late year starts, but at LG).

Any team in the NFL could have just traded for him at about $5.3M salary for next year, which implies he won't be expensive in free agency. I just don't see how it DOESN'T make sense for us to try and sign him now.
