Cousins, I have bit this tongue on some missed opportunities but I am letting her rip right now!

THE BAIT:
The ability to maneuver the #4 pick to gain more wampum.

C
Why isn't Garrett Bradbury on a plane right now to New England? He is still young. He is one of the best run blocking Centers in the NFL. Pass blocking needs work. He's a FA.

OT
The Seahawks LT Charles Cross. He has become a very good LT and broke out in 2024. He generated his best PFF grades to date, setting new high watermarks as both a run (77.9) and pass (81.3) blocker. He has one more year of
cheap contract until 2026 at $5,345mm. Obviously if you get him in the building you need to extend him. I think the Hawks are building draft pieces.

How?

Swap of picks. Give the Hawks #4 for their #18 and 4th Rounder #137.. The Trade value says that is 900 point differential or a first round number - along with WR Polk who is from Washington and the Hawks need weapons for Darnold. Polk might have a resurgence back in the northwest.

OT
Trevor Penning is considered to be a developing, "good" offensive tackle with potential, but not yet a finished product; while he shows flashes of strong play, he still has inconsistencies, particularly in pass protection, and needs further refinement
Again, The Saints need bodies. The need a QB. Perhaps Joe Milton is the young QB that pushed David Carr out the door.
Penning was a slow developing First Rounder. We would have to do a ballet with the Draft choices although not #4.

FA
"Former Green Bay Packers left tackle, David Bakhtiari, will be able to return in the 2024 season, per Ian Rapoport. Bakhtiari ended the 2023 season on injured reserve due to several knee surgeries to repair a cartilage issue" Now healthy as he sat an extra year, Bakthtiari has been adamant that his career is not over and he still desires to play professional football.

G/T
FA
Treven Jenkins
Another first round pick who has had injuty problems. Can play LT

DE
Trey Hendrickson. Yep I am all in. Swap of picks.

WR
Higgins. Talk to them about #4. Better than anyone in this Draft class.

WR
Ayuk. His price goes down every day.

Thoughts?

Bakhtiari has played 25 games in the last 4 seasons, and is now 33 years old.

And I'm not trading the #4 overall pick for any player, without a good bit of draft capital coming back, that's crazy. I'd have a hard time justifying trading 38 for Higgins.

We just signed a 34 year old OT Cousin.

I just posted something about using pick 4 to get a young proven LT. I absolutely would be all for using pick 4 to get a proven LT. Like @TommyD4207 said we would need to get capital back. I do not see a downside in the strategy, especially in this draft. It also depends on which LT.

Edit: sorry I just saw that it is a pick swap so we would get 18.

Getting rid of the # 4 pick is a horrible idea, period.
Fair opinion, let me ask you this. Would you rather have Charles Cross (just an example) or whoever is at 4 for us to take. I would not make any trades til we were on the clock. If Carter is there, I am taking Carter but if Carter and Hunter are gone I am taking the proven commodity.

I am curious in your rationale?

I would rather pick. The only player I’m willing to give 4 up for is Micah Parsons.

You have some interesting scenarios DW Toys, enjoyed your thoughts. The only scenario I disagree with is Trevor Penning. I live just outside of New Orleans and have watched every game Penning has played. He tries, but he has been horrible in just about every game he's played.

my "missed opportunities" so far have been Thuney, Dalman and Jon Jones. I would have brought in all 3

I think one may be disappointed without feeling one must be critical of what has been done. I think they did a reasonable job of taking what was there for them, given that there must be reasonable stewardship of the funds available (We have a lot of it, but not an infinite amount), given the reasonable decision to give special weight to character, and given, most importantly, what was as a matter of fact been available. It looks like a B to me, which is certainly far better than the team has done in this phase in recent years. It's unfortunate, I suppose, that a team with the breadth of needs this team has might have to draft for need, but reality does get a say in these matters, and I am sure in any case that they are on the lookout for trade options. Those who feel that if only the team is "aggressive" enough, or profligate enough in its spending, that this can result in a genuinely competitive team this year are deluding themselves, We had become in a number of important respects the worst team in the league. It takes more than a single off-season to fix a roster fallen that low.

Yes I’m disappointed. How long does it take to solve a positional problem? It’s been 5 ****ing seasons since the Pats have had any player that could qualify as close to a #1 WR.

It’s honestly impressive to be so horrible at signing or drafting a receiver for so long. Our offensive line has been trash for at least two seasons, probably three.

In the draft we basically have to pick WR/T interchangeably with our first two picks. If even one of those guys looks like he can’t be an NFL starter after next season Wolf must be fired.
