What’s our plan at Wide Receiver?

right, perhaps Kupp wants $5M more from an eastern team.

My guess is that he is talking to teams in the east primarily to drive his ultimate contract value with the west coast team he signs with.
His comment that he is “curious” about pats sounds like bs to drive the price up for his preferred destination

Yeah, he had a really great game against us. Now think about how much worse had to be in his other 11 games played for his averages and overall numbers to suck as much as they did with that game vs. us propping them up...

But how much could it be because we did not have a proper CB on him and the game plan was crap. Besides puka was also drawing coverage . We don't have anybody like that . So for all you know Kupp might underperform here when pushed to wr1

When/if we sign him (and I hope we do), whether he’s our #1 or #2, he would still be our *BEST* receiver. Sign him, then draft the biggest, fastest, best route runner we can get our hands on.

What?? If that's all he costs - this should be a done deal.
I'm not a fan of leaning on 31+ year old WR's. But, it worked with Moss, and he's in that mold (different kind of WR though).

We paid that much for stinking Juju who couldn't run or cut.

I still think Kupp is our best option (until he inevitably signs with Seattle). Metcalf and Godwin were never coming here.

There's a reason to knock on every WR option out there, and I mean EVERY WR option, but at some point you have to take a gamble and hope for improving the WR room. Young, highly productive WR's in their prime never make it to free agency. They're either extended, or tagged, or traded and then extended.

Cooper Kupp: 32 this season, limited due to injuries the last three seasons
Brandon Aiyuk: production looks bad before season ending ACL/MCL injuries, would cost draft capital + his large salary (though not as much of a concern) + not a guarantee for start of the season
Stefon Diggs: 31 this season, production took a dip since second half 2023, coming off torn ACL, not a guarantee for start of season, attitude concerns
Keenan Allen: 33 this season, production tailed off last season, entering 13th season
Amari Cooper: 31 this season, massive drop productive wise, barely used in Buffalo
Brandin Cooks: 32 this season, has looked washed for last three seasons, is an older, name-brand Darius Slayton at this point

Then you have the draft and you have people here who don't want Travis Hunter or Tetairoa McMillan and it's like, well who else can they get that would command targets ahead of Douglas and Boutte? I want the Pats to address the OL especially at LT just like everyone else does but I also don't want Maye to be stuck with the 2025 version of the 2006 Reche Caldwell/Jabar Gaffney receiving corps. Brady barely made that work and it led to BB eventually spending big the following offseason to get Moss/Welker/Stallworth. There are no sure bets for WR no matter where this team looks, but doesn't mean they shouldn't try. I'm praying for a reliable target for Maye.

We have a pretty well rounded WR room right now…
Not the first adjective that comes to mind I gotta say.

I am sure there is one I just don't see it. I do think going after Higgins, Aiyuk, DK would not be the right move, imo

She’s cute. I wonder if she’s 3-input yet…

Does anyone think Josh can resurrect Polk? Wasn't he fairly highly touted just a year ago?

He was taken a Full round earlier than he should’ve been taken; so he was in essence a borderline top-75 prospect, not much higher than his own teammate McMillan… Sometimes when there are superior players at the same position on the same team, your own suckiness can be hidden; think Soreknee Michel vs Nick Chubb… And of course who could predict that sloPolk’s attitude & work ethic would be such Hot Garbage?

I guess it depends on who you talk to. I saw some pre draft stuff that had him as a top 50 player and potential late first rounder... I don't pretend to know anything about prospects, and I agree that some had him where you stated, but others had him higher than that

Here is your guy. Same height(6'0) as Diggs (4.46)but with a faster 40 time (4.29). In fact I think he had the fastest 40 time in the combine. Good hands, can play in the middle of the field or down the sidelines.

He’s very impressive, no way he falls out of the first. Where do we get him? Half the forum wants us to draft a tackle with a 32 5/8” arm length at 4 overall!

A trade down is ideal, imo. If Carter and Hunter are gone there is nobody that I want them to pick at 4. If I were picking I would probably go with Mason Graham, but pass rushing DT seems to be pretty congested right now.

yeah I agree. Even T-Mac who I’m high on I wouldn’t go higher than 8-10..but not 4 overall. That’s reserved for Hunter or Carter

Moss wasn't coming off several injury-ridden seasons. Also, he's Randy ****ing Moss.

However, Kupp for 12 million over one or two years - that's basically free, since you have to spend the money anyway.

A resurrection for Polk at this stage would be elevating his game from "doesnt belong in the NFL" to "a serviceable WR5". He's never gonna be an Welker/Edelman possession guy he was billed as.. his ceiling is far lower.

Even bad teams w/bad QBs always seem to have that one guy like Jeudy or Ridley who will put up 1k yards. Good players just find a way.

Kupp isn't coming here so our depth chart next year:

T. Hunter or Golden/Bond (depending if they go WR in R1 or R2)
Boutte
Douglas
Hollins
Bourne/Polk/Baker - The best 2 of these 3

I actually think Boutte with his 600 yards in a clown show last year has WR2 potential... if we get a guy who warrants double coverage I could see Boutte get 800-1k in a season.

Where do we get him is the million dollar question. I totally agree he doesnt fall out of the first round I suspect he will be gone by the 20th pick. You don't want him at the 4th spot but you don't want to miss out him as well, its a tough spot to be in. As for the 4th pick I have a sneaking suspicion they will take Campbell with the thought that if struggles at tackle they can easily move him to guard and be good for the next 10 years. I will say I do have some concern about his arm length but if you watch his season he held his own against some of the best pass rushers in college. It will be interesting to watch that first round that's for sure.
