What’s our plan at Wide Receiver?

The draft will be all offensive players. It’s obvious they couldn’t fix their offensive problems in free agency. No LT, no WR (#1 receiver). I’m guessing we get our LT in round 1, and then at least 3 WRs from rounds 2 down. Hopefully one of these good TEs in a DEEP, TALENTED TE draft. Some depth Olinemen, and also a RB.

They obviously won’t hit on all their picks, but if they can hit on 25-33% of the 2025 draft, the offense will be better.

If Hunter is there at 4:

A) Draft him. Instant WR1 and we'd have the most fearsome Dime package in the league.

If no Hunter at 4, draft Membou and then:

B) Take J. Higgins or Tre Harris at 38 if they fall or with a very slight move up.
C) If you can find a taker, move from 38 to the mid-late 1st for Golden.
D) Trade down multiple times from 4, come away with Golden + Josh Simmons + extra picks.

Bottom line is that barring some improbable trade, strong solutions to WR and LT have to come from the draft. And there is plenty of flexibility to work with there.

Oh sorry twin forgot about Gibby.
@PatsFan2 and @Real fan 02

We have a pretty well rounded WR room right now. We have youth, we have some quickness, we have some bigger outside targets, we have some vets. Most of them haven't had the chance to be their best - between bad OC's, Mac & Zappe, Brissett and rookie Maye...

But we don't have a true WR1 - and no remaining aging ex-star mercenary is going to do it (sorry, Kupp, Cooper, Diggs)
We need to finally, for the first time since Terry Glenn, draft our own legitimate #1 franchise WR. I don't know who that will be in this draft, but whether it's Hunter or Tet as our 1st round pick, or some miracle in the middle rounds... we need to nail it.

Curran mentioned today on his weekly WEEI appearance that something is in the works to getting that WR. Who? Who knows. I tend to agree that without elite or borderline elite WRs it's hard for Drake to reach his potential. What can help Drake is the offense being fluid, converting 3rd downs, utilizing the RBs in the passing game. The fluidity in the offense would immensely help Drake to Ascend.. but to your point we need a play maker for him.
I would be super pumped if we got Jakobi back. He may not be a "#1 WR" whatever the hell that is. You can have a great offense with 3-4 good WRs. Is Jerry Jeudy a 1 or Courtland Sutton or JSN? For real I don't know what a #1 WR is because it seems that offenses don't work without having 1 based on all of the #1 talk.

I saw people say that Tee Higgins never had over 75 catches in a season so he is not a number 1. JSN and Amon ra had 100 or more receptions, so they are number 1's? DJ Moore had 98 rec but less than 1K yards so what is he.

all that talk sounds over rated to me.

The way the Pats came hard out of the gate yesterday gives every indication there's a plan A-Z. They know what they want to do at WR, whether or not they can bring it off remains to be seen.

Travis Hunter at #4 if he makes it down that far.

If Hunter gone, trade down to 6-10 and take Tet McMillan.

If need to trade further down to 11-16, I'm comfortable with Matthew Golden or Luther Burden in that range.

Use the extra draft capital from moving down to trade back up and get a Simmons in the bottom of the 1st.

That would be my draft plan.

Get Drake Maye a legit top weapon. Don't reach for a guard like Campbell at #4.

Move back up into the 1st for that left tackle. There are at least 2-3 good left tackle prospects that project to late 1st early 2nd. Take one of them then: Simmons, Ersery, Connerly, etc.

If Simmons, Ersery, Connerly are good LT prospects like you say, they'll probably get pushed up the draft. That position is like QB where they always get overdrafted. People reach for them because, as we're finding out, it's really hard to get one via trade or free agency. I think oyu'd have to move up higher than late 1st to get someone who's a "good LT prospect". And if they are there in the late 1st, think long and hard about if they're actually a good LT prospect or if you just want them to be.

The problem with moving back for more picks is that someone has to want to give up those picks to move up. Everyone here wants to move down because there's no prospect we're enamored with, but to move like people prefer someone else has to be enamored with one of the same prospects we're only lukewarm on. The one exception would be QB because that's a position we're not looking at so you could have that opposite reaction of someone else being enamored with who we aren't. We really need Sanders to make someone fall in move with him.

I like you plan, I just question whether the draft board actually is going to yield the trade offers and the positions/players you want actually panning out.

There have been many big WR trades over the years during or just before the draft. Most notably Tyreek Hill and AJ Brown. So a big trade is still a possibility. So there is still a chance of trades for guys like Higgins, Aiyuk, or even AJ Brown.

Speaking of Hill, he looks to be grumbling about a trade again although he looks to want to go to the Chargers.

These recent trades of high priced WR's don't seem to put any team over the top. Barkley and the rest of the NFC imploding were the two reasons the Eagles emerged by default.

Pats need to learn to draft competent WR's.

I don't want Hunter OR Tet.
I don't think either 1 is what people think is A PROFESSIONAL FB player.

Hunter may be good, but he will NEVER BE the 2 way player he was in Colorado, which is a weak ass division.
I swear some folks think he's an honest to God 2 way every play player.
Seriously? He'll never be that guy, it's not possible in the Pros.
No fkn chance. And Tet beat up ****ies, and did just OK vs REAL talent
Will these 2 guys be good players? Probably, does anyone REALLY THINK TET OR Hunter are going to be perennial All-Pros? Isn't that idiocy is what's expected?

Hill is a fkn cancer, and a punk.

Well, Hill helped to make the Dolphins go from an awful team to a playoff contender. The Dolphins had a long way to go from where they were pre-Hill.

It was probably worth it by putting asses in the seats, but he's not going to put the Dolphins over the top because they still have a lot of holes on the roster.

The dolphins went from 9-8 before Hill to 9-8 his first year. Year 2 they went 11-6 and then down to 8-9 last year. A lot of other factors, but over the last 3 years they’ve average 9.3 wins with Hill compared to 9 the year before he got there.

My conspiracy theory of the day is: Given what's left at the top of the WR market, teams are waiting for the Cooper Kupp situation to be resolved.
