Sad as this is, Lowe was probably their best pass blocker last year. I don't think it was AVP not knowing he needed help, just that it's hard to help the best pass blocker your team. You usually have to start by helping the worst and go from there.I get the Lowe skepticism …I do.
BUT, objectively Lowe vastly outperformed Cam Robinson last season and had dysfunction all around him both on the line and the coaching staff.
AVP had an inexplicable inability to know when and how to help the LT, compounded by the fact that RT also sucked as did…every orher spot including Onwenu for stretches. It was like watching the O-line version of ****ty whack-a-mole every week.
Shoring up RT with a competent pro, Strange being even league average at C, Onwenu showing up in shape and only focusing on RG, plus anyone they add at LG gives Josh Mcd the freedom to just help out Lowe at LT when necessary.
Josh HAS proven to be very good at designing plays to help out the weak tackle going back decades.
While a rookie who proves good and can start early would be awesome, I’m not writing off Lowe’s ability to be league average with some help just yet.
Now…as for WR: I’d absolutely plan on drafting two AGAIN until someone pops.
The price for them is skyrocketing…same with Tackles. So to me it’s good business to draft one of each every damned year.
The other side of that though is that teams might have "taken it easy" on Lowe by matching up their best rushers over the lesser blockers. So it's possible that the terrible OL, while making it harder to help him, actually lead to some easier matchups for Lowe.
