He also was his teams short yardage back. It's him or Willie Lampkins that I'd love for FB.
The beauty with JJ is that he is a good DT that can play 0-3T and maybe 5T in 3-4. So he would have value on both sides of the ball. He is a former TE, so I imagine that he threw on a lot of weight. Losing some would make him much more explosive I would think.

The effect on the cap is estimated to be $7.8M.
Just to expand on that, cap space is calculated in the offseason as all dead money + signing bonus amortization + likely to be earned incentives + base salaries of your top 51 players.

All of the rookies we draft will sign 4 year deals and get signing bonuses to be amortized over those 4 years. So 25% of the total rookie signing bonuses will count on the cap.

All of them will have base salaries at or near the minimum and we already have 51 players signed. So cap space won't go down much, if at all, for their salaries since they aren't displacing anyone.

If you add up their total cap hits when they make the team, it will likely total closer to $15M, but half of that is already essentially counted on our cap via the base salaries of the guys whose roster spots the rookies will take. So only the signing bonus amortization will really be additive to our current cap allocations.

As it pertains to Shedeur Sanders, Noooooooooo!

Does signing Rodgers change anything though? I'm not convinced. If they pass on QB this year they will be just as QB needy next year and maybe not with a high enough pick to get one of the top guys.

Not a bad number for a stop gap edge defender. He played at Georgia though so a homecoming for him. He's got a ring, lots of cash already so I imagine he was able to prioritize picking a destination that suits his life.

If I am reading the page linked below it would be just over 15M in cash and cap hit of 7.8 as @mgteich said. Could also be that I don't read good

Are you thinking like I am that tagging Higgins is just to be able to trade him, as keeping him really messes up their ability to not only keep other players they have at other positions (especially when their contracts are up), but that it prevents them from adding via FA (especially next year and beyond). Not to mention that they're already over the cap by quite a few bucks.
I thought we were talking about the Chiefs?

Bengals are too cheap and clearly have no sense of how to balance their books. I'd force their hand and watch them end up releasing all those guys.

First off even if true it may not have been a true 30M/per contract. Secondly.... if really offered that i don't think he turns it down compared to a 22M/yr contract. While i have said we may need to over pay some guys and some may not want to come here.... i don't think anyone is turning down that money. Even with taxes.

I wish the site would ban all these asinine looping video things, whatever they are called. They are childish.

That's on brand.

The Giants actually gave Darius Slayton essentially the same contract they offered Saquon… that’s unreal

Our #1, #2, and #3 needs are all now on the OL. Certainly 3 of the top 4 needs.
Huh?
Onwenu, Strange and Moses fill 3 of the 5.
I think the other 2 are 2 of our 3 biggest needs along with WR, with S and another WR next.

So, what the hell are we doing today? I am guessing we are making travel arrangements for all of our FA's to come in tomorrow to sign stuff....

THEN we will work on the second wave of FA? Right?

I guess. Surprisingly slow today.

I am comfortable with Sidy Sow, Layden Robinson, and/or possibly Andrews battling for the LG job.....

We have Caden Wallace as back up at RT...Ben Brown/David Andrews backing up at center....Lowe/Jacobs can compete for the swing tackle...if we have enough room on the roster after adding a FA/rookie LT.

Only explanation for this slow day (not only for the Pats, but the league in general) is there is some major gap between what is being offered and what the remaining FAs want

Makes for a very interesting wednesday

I’m going to guess there isn’t much out there left in FA land. I suspect they are looking at trades to fill needs.

Interesting note: None of the FA Patriots have signed anywhere.
