It’s pretty clear to me that the Patriots new management team of Vrabel, Wolf, Cowden, and Streicher know what they are doing, and they are going to build a winner in New England. Their approach to this free agency was pretty much perfect imo. The strength of the free agency was on defense, and even though the Patriots most glaring needs were on offense they went hard at rebuilding the defense with tough physical starting defenders at every level. They did find a shorter term answer at RT in Morgan Moses, and will likely continue to add pieces on offense, but it looks like the two biggest needs will come from a possible trade, and the Left Tackle in the draft. I don’t think they are done yet, but today was a really good new beginning to the Vrabel Era.

They need to strike gold w/LT and WR in the draft or we are in for another frustrating year with the offense.

I'm wondering how people would be
with trading that 2nd rounder for a 2026 first depending on the team

They can actually address both needs in the draft, but people will have to settle for a really good receiver, but probably not a game changing #1. They can get their tackle at #4 if they want to, but it’s more likely they will try to trade back, add a 2nd round pick. Then they could take one of the tackles, and put the two 2nd rounders together to move up for a top receiver. Right now there are 4! WR’s in the first round. Macmillan, Burden, Golden, and Egbuka. 3 of them should be available after 15. If they want one of them they will need to be aggressive to get it done, but they could definitely come out of the first night with one of Campbell, Membou, or Banks with their first pick, and one of Burden, Golden, Or Egbuka.

If LT and WR are their remaining glaring needs, they can go a long way to fixing both on the first night of the draft:

What i like the best is there is a clear vision for how this team will look going forward. They have a very good idea of what they want the D to look like. Small. fast. Pass stopping first. This has draw backs and benefits. But at least there is a clear vision here on the defensive side.

As for the offense, we will have to wait and see. Moses is a good signing. The lack of stars on offense is free agency means you can only do so much before the draft. So we will be in a situation where we need to make trades and hit our picks. Hope we do.

Ideally we get Hunter and he becomes the big time weapon we need. Trade of a LT with our 2nd pick who is a really good starter. And shore up the middle of the OL however we can. At this point the need to use high draft capital on the defensive side isn't there. We got help at all 3 levels on D. We can do all in on offense with our top picks.

I love what we did thus far in 2025, today and in assembling our coaching staff. hard to be anything but impressed with having a plan and so far sticking to it. But when it comes to really contending again the true test will come draft time. thats where we will have to identify and assemble much of our top end talent if we are going to make a legitimate run in a couple years . We havent drafted well in a long time which is how we got here, and itll be the only way to get back to the top.

Definitely a 180 from last year.

By the looks of this free agency, Krafts really held the ship tight last year and screwed Mayo .

Wow. I forgot about Hunter. He opens up a very different approach to the draft. Actually the same approach I said in my last post, but it will be more difficult to pull off, because they would have to take Hunter at 4, no trade down, and then convince a team to take their 2nd , a 3rd, and probably another 2nd next year to move up for one of the tackles. But there is still a way to get both their starting LT, (Simmons, Zabel, or Conerly) and an actually #1Wide Receiver. In Hunter.

At some point, Mayo needs to bear responsibility with this.
He's the one that spent 3 years telling Bob Kraft that Belichick was the only problem, and if *he* were the head coach things would be different.

This is so refreshing after the last few years. After the ****show last year with May and the year before that with Patricia and Judge, it's nice to see a coherent plan being formulated and implemented.

I think Conerly or Ersery will be there at 38.

I think patriots fans have to credit Wolf for realizing last year was a terrible free agency, focusing on re signing their own guys and jags for low money, and leaving them 130 million $$$ to play with this year. They reaped the benefits of that today.

People keep saying this but the HC needs to pitch free agents on their vision in order to get them here. Mayo obviously did not do that. Many signings today also leaned on connections that coaches in high positions had - HC, OC, DC and others. Many of Mayo’s cohort were first time coaches with no connections.

Yep. Mayo had no idea how to put an NFL Coaching staff together, and they paid badly for that.

I tend to agree with your view. But just that Mayo was a victim of his lack of experience, wolfs ineptitude in 2024 and Kraft stinginess. Unfortunately he felt the brunt of impact big time which has most probably killed coaching career as an option for him
