Offseason player acquisition thread

Look, I’ll be *****ing with everyone if a week from now if we come out doing very little again.

But doing it now before the period even starts is stupid, just wait until real moves are happening before having these reactions.
There are all types on an Internet message board. If you met them face to face you would probably feel differently.

You unilaterally decide what can and can not be discussed?

You may not like it but its true that players who have a choice do not want to come here. Generally it is true and factual.
Not complaining.
Now up for discussion is how does the team change that

No, I’m delineating the difference between “ second guessing,” like saying someone was a bad signing, and crying and *****ing, “” boo hoo hoo, we can’t get anyone, no one wants to play here.” Which is just meaningless *****ing.

Criticizing decisions is part of discussing the team, whining about how bad we have it is crybaby ********.

I think our D will look a lot better. I think we probably find a decent enough WR. I think our OL might still be ****ed though.
Agreed.

DEFENSE
Vrabel will be able to get what he wants to get players to fit his system, including getting talented starters. We will hopefully have a top 10 Defense in 2025 and a top 5-10 thereafter.

SPECIAL TEAMS
We should always have top 10 special teams since our organization always seems to put a higher priority on this than most other teams. We have a top punter, punt returner and gunner. We do need a kicker, but that will happen.

OFFENSE
Maybe next year.

Seriously, our Offense will IMPROVE. That is a very low bar. Maye will have a full season and we have Josh.

Sure, we'll have improvements on the OL, another low bar. Just having health will bring an improvement.

I do think that we will also have the following improvements
1) another RB or more likely two to go with Stevenson and Gibson.
2) a backup TE (perhaps a re-signing of Hooper)
3) 2-3 free agent OL's, including at least a below average starter at one or two positions
4) 2-3 draftees in the top 4 rounds being used for OL's
5) yes, we will sign a couple of WR's

If you think the *****ing is bad now just wait to see how it's going to look tomorrow.

You can say whatever you want to Sam, no one is stopping you, and I can respond to it. And the way you attract players is through success and $$$, and that takes time and effort.

This is why we need to start to draft and develop our own WRs. Ect. Or every year we are going to have to try to convince guys to come here. Salvaging polk and baker while of course signing a veteran would be an ideal thing this off season.
We have been terrible at drafting WRs and yet, Matt Groh is still in charge of college scouting.

Add Maliek Collins to the list of BJ Hill and DJ Jones for guys the Pats should target along with throwing the bag at Milton Williams.

With uncertainty around Barmore they should overload at DT and OT.

other than the fact that he isn't good. He gets abused by good edge rushers and is a terrible run blocker. His final exams before heading into his free agent offseason:

Week 18: 9 pressures, 1 sack allowed
Div Round: 12 pressures, 1 sack allowed
I don’t disagree, but he’s better than what we currently have and the hope is that with Marrone, he can be better than what he was at the end of last season.

Lots of players have re-signed with their teams (as is always the case). A lot of players have been and will be waived (as is always the case)

Let's see where we are in a week or two.
==========
We have next to no one to resign this year besides a couple old heads lol

AGGRESSIVE means signing who pindividual posters want signed. AGRRESSIVE means overpaying for shiny objects.
==========
let's wee where we are in a week. I expect several 5-7 top additions, primarily on Defense. And, yes, we will sign a mid-level TE and RB. Obviously, we will sign players on the OL and a WR. But they may not be potential all-pros. HOWEVER, they will be serious improvements over what we have.
Overpaying vs. Market Price? Weak supply (poor FA availability) coupled with large cap space that must be spent leads to ? Basic Econ 101.

If we get Martcalf it’s no less that 33 mill a season.
Milton Williams 20 mill a season.
I don’t know if he’s close to being worth that but the Pats need huge upgrades.

Will is damn good. I’m worried about the injury, but he really played well for them.
Plays tall at 6’6,” not overly strong or really athletic… there’s better guards available.

If it is what the market dictates, it’s not overpaying.
