Offseason player acquisition thread

Also probably raises the price Higgins asks from them. If they’re gonna pay Chase let’s say $42M APY then Higgins will demand he’s at least close to that, like $35M. Doubt Cincinnati will do that, and even if they did, $77M APY tied up into two wide receivers is asinine.
They fouled up big time imo.

This has been a terrible Pre-FA so far.

They have shown to the whole NFL that this is a rebuilding team, with no ambitions for Vrabel's first year.

And, as always, the some of best players (or some of the most sought-after) in the NFL are being retained or traded before the FA market even starts - but then again, it's been pretty trendy for awhile that whatever comes to the market has a problem or two, the fact is that unless you have a top 5 QB in the books, you almost always have cap sapce.

So, heading into the 12 of march, with 3 days, left, if nothing changes, we have to sell players for:

- Vrabel is indeed a great HC, even though he picks up one hell of a legacy behind staff-wise
- The consensus 2nd worst place to work for, accordding to the players association
- a terrible roster with 1 blue chip player (Gonzales), 1 promising young QB
- a bumbling, old, appereantly indeed cheap owner
- Cold weather
- High taxes
- Some questionable cultural differences (hey... blame it on the NBA/LeBron)

There is probably something I missed too

then, so i don't become known as a full on hater, ill just keep beating the drum of "we can't really wait for things to come to our laps, at some point we need to be aggressive." Reading the forum, it's clear that many are still thinking it's going to be easy to spend 140M in cap space in free agency well and that things will be okay

Maybe. But that would break a almost 5 year trend of bad decision makings when it comes to roster building, coming indeed from the BB days.

I am very patient man, there is still a lot of water to run down, and it's way to early to tell the flow of this river's season.

But come June/July, if we remain with the most cap space at beginning of the season, I swear that I will stop being nice with this administrion, and I will, sirs and madams, I WILL become an poster so vengeful regarding Kraft and whoever is managing the team, that the devil himself will be like "this guy's crazy". I swear, no thread complimenting Kraft will ever be safe around here
Maybe I am an ******* but I hope this happens. I so badly want to see the vengeful posting and I will stir the pot by praising kraft n every post I make. At least now this gives something to look forward to rather the severe disappointment from FA.

Sanders is definitely falling, and Dart doesn’t have the athleticism to rise any further than the most optimistic mocks have him. ( Jeremiah-To the Steelers)
This is very much a Kenny Pickett type of draft for the QBs. All I heard approaching the draft is how QB needy teams will trade up to secure their guy. Here is the thing though, if a team does not think the QB is a potential franchise guy they are not going to trade assets to get a more expensive bandaid.

Patriots should get him for next to nothing to save Cincy from themselves.
Chase is looking at 50 mill a season now as well.
Cincy is just preparing to transition into a flag football team.

Who’s trading up to 4 and for whom? Problem is every other team is viewing the draft the same way — Hunter and Carter, and everyone else has flaws — and likely won’t feel the need to trade draft assets to move up. Or we’ll get a significantly smaller return than expected - like trading down from 4 to 6 and only picking up a 5th round pick.
All I’m saying is never draft for need. Draft for the best player available. Or use the BPA to get the best trade available. There are teams who might trade to 4 depending on how the Titans and Browns draft. If Ward/Sanders falls they’ll get something. Jets could easily trade 7 + other picks for 4 if that happens. New Orleans is a little out of range for Campbell but they’re at 9.

Fair, but hopefully Vrabel brings also that leadership trait, which offsets a bit. Even still, what we had as locker room culture seemed to be so awful, that improvement in that also doesnt seem, to me, that hard.

I hope this doesnt come off as complaining or whatever. It's fine as is, my expectations have shifted and thus my op today.

We will see come day of free agency. Then there are no excuses. We need to be aggressive as ****, otherwise i will be mad for real

pretty much see above. We can improve everywhere and have money to spare (i can be wrong here, we'll see). Day 1 of free agency im back with more revolt
If they aren’t aggressive in free agency then people will be justified in giving them **** about it. Even though areas of need have been depleted there are good players on the market, and they can improve the team significantly, even if it isn’t at positions people want them to fill.

Absolutely this is one of the problems

But i can't not poke the bear just a bit: You guys do need to understand that, as great the US is, it's still ONE country in the world. That is my main "problem" with your education system (among other things, but obviosuly im far from an actual expert)
Dumb comment incoming alert. Where are you from? In my head I made the NM stand for New Mexico. So when I see your posts I always think what does Jay New Mexico have to say.

I warned this was a super dumb post.

Let’s see how free agency goes, but right now, if I’m the Jets (and thank god I’m not), I’m wondering who would you be afraid of trading up to draft the QB if either Ward or Sanders fall? Because that’s the only reason they wouldn’t sit back at 7 and wait for the QB to fall. At least 2 of the Titans, Browns and Giants have already passed. Vegas has a QB now. The Saints restructured Carr. We’ll see how free agency plays out but I expect the Steelers will have someone by then. Who’s left that’s actually looking for a QB that would be a threat to jump in front of the Jets at 7?

But the trade partner may not be

Once again they can only do what can be done. If no one wants to trade up then they have to take what is there. The bottom line for this team is that they need talent everywhere, so they should add the best talent available wherever they find it.

Lol, so did I.

And my guess is that the last year of that deal was a big number.

It wasnt huge, 16mill, but more than I want to pay a 32yr old guard, then probably lose him because they aren't going to give him the last big contract.

16 million is peanuts for an all pro guard.
Pats won’t even be able to spend to the cap

Agreed. There are a lot of holes on this team. Tackle is one of many. When you’re 4-13 you take the best available player or the best trade available

I said the money wasn't big, it was likely age and new contract. The team isn't going to be in on every available player.

I also wonder, even though the team says otherwise, how much losing their director of pro personnel effected things.
