My gut tells me Campbell is going to be a good to very good, but not elite left tackle for a decade. Somewhere in the range of 10-12th best in the league, while being a team leader. That performance could def justify the pick, particularly in this thin draft.

Phil Perry was saying that several scouts he talked to at the combine are still high on Campbell. The wingspan gives me pause, but I tend to agree that he can make it as an LT and could be an all pro guard as a fall back. His character, nastiness, run blocking, leadership are all things that Vrabel and most coaches should covet. I could see him taking the mantel from Andrews as being the leader of the offensive line for the next 10 years.

The frustrating part is how much draft capital we've spent on the guard position and taking another potential guard high in the draft leaves an empty feeling.

Well I'd double maybe even triple dip at LT at this point.

Not really imo. I think Hunter is the best player in the draft and if he's there at 4 i think they would take him and take tackles in round 2 and 3 possibly.

Still a lot to play out in FA and before draft.

The caveat "if Carter/Hunter aren't there" has been pretty much a baked in assumption at this point.

Cam is a signficant drop off in talent though.

Agreed. But we are not going to get top talent for every one of our roster holes in one year. Sign top guys in FA and take BPA and slowly build a championship team. We will have some less than ideal "hole fillers" in 2025.

The priority in FA hasnt changed but the expectation that you went into has.

We have been debating between 4(will campbell/membou/Graham/Warren) 2 of which are OL so taking one of them isn't reaching. Nor is doubling up on a 2nd OL knowing you can always move 1 of them to guard.

I’m always so late in these discussions, but am a +1 on flipping my opinion almost every time looking at the approach for #4 and comparing guys head to head.

Right this second though… With Campbell and Membou, the thought is Campbell could be a LT, but fallback is a great LG. With Mambou, could move to LT, but fallback is a great RT, who could also be a potential at G. Kind of like the idea of a great RT (with G potential) vs. great LG as a floor when comparing them.

Of course.. the sell the other way is Campbell’s potential as a technician at LT being worth the gamble.

I rewatched every pass block snap against Texas am and besides his arm length I think Campbell is great against speed rushes but I wonder how he would hold up against power rushers who get in his chest. Scourton pushed him back quit easily on some plays. Also if we don’t run zone I think Campbell isnt worth the 4th pick. He isn’t really strong at the Point of attack. I prefer membou here who is able to take DE on a ride back

How do we play it with Campbell? Do we sign Robinson/Moore to start and have Campbell back up or play LG? Do we start Campbell at LT immediately to get him the experience and if so, what happens to Robinson/Moore?

I was going to ask the same question. Can Robinson or Moore also play right tackle? That would give some flexibility heading into camp. My assumption is that they are going to command more money in free agency than they are worth. We’d be paying them to start at tackle but if we draft Campbell we absolutely need to start him at tackle first rather than plug him in at guard.

My overall view on Campbell is he can be a starting level tackle but doesn’t have the high end traits to be a top end one. His lack of length shows up on film fairly often if you ask me. I don’t think the sack/pressure numbers tell the whole story as I’ve seen a quite a few instances of him getting beat but QB mobility has meant it hasn’t lead to a pressure.

However, he’s apparently a real leader, a hard worker, athletic and tenacious on the field. He can get out in space, is a good run blocker and seem to have the intelligence you need at the position (passing off players, handling stunts and twists etc). If there was any year you would feel okay taking Campbell with the worst case scenario being that he ends up a top level guard then it’s this year given the other options at 4. You aren’t passing on that much. I wonder if his arm length will increase slightly at his pro day too. There was something going on at the combine.

The one problem with drafting Campbell and signing Robinson is that you don't want to take reps away from Campbell if he is the plan at LT. Part of me thinks we should forget Robinson/Moore and just run Campbell out there at LT. If it works out then great, if not, we'll just be back in the same situation next year and then you shift Campbell to LG.

Maybe draft Trapilo at RT and a developmental tackle too like Charles Grant, Logan Brown or Hollin Pierce.

Another option would be to draft Membou and sign Robinson. Have Robinson play at LT, Membou at RT and let him get good NFL reps with a possible view to Membou switching sides at some stage in the future. This option ls less fiddly in terms of trying to combine experience and rookie reps.

That comes down to $. I was ok with the Brinks truck for a top teir LT but not for a JAG. They just need a body at this point.

Hopefully not if he's just a backup. In my scenario, he would really just be a temporary option if Campbell flames out at LT. Jaylon Moore from SF would be the other option. Started 5 games at the end of last season and only gave up one sack but has never played more than 270 snaps in a season. Has had 70 plus PFF ratings at both pass and run blocking the last two years though.
