Offseason player acquisition thread

This is why I never understand the people who obsess over this massive cap space we have. Nearly every year the cap goes up and allows most teams to easily resign their top players and/or a couple restructures and their back in business.

Vrabel is going to have to vastly overpay for mediocre players which will only marginally make us more competitive.

Belichick’s drafting seriously has doomed this team for years and Eliot Wolf just continued the ****ups…

The Commanders went from 4 - 13 in 2023 to 12 - 5 in 2024. They didn't vastly overpay for mediocre players. At 12 - 5 and in the NFC Championship game, the Commanders were not only marginally more competitive.

What is a Fubby?

He’s 20 years old and an excellent athlete, I have no concerns about him playing left tackle.
That's what we thought with Isaiah Wynn. Didn't work out but was worth it at the end of the 1st rd.

You don't take an undersized prospect and hope they are the exception with #4

Membou is 6’4 330.

Gotcha I thought you were talking about Campbell.

Membou would be interesting. Maybe he could be another Wirfs

In terms of athleticism/RAS score Membou was on the same level as Campbell9.8-9.9, and he’s massive.

He is jumping now just because of his measurablea. Why wasn't he highly touted while at college ?

He was highly touted, but now he’s moving to the front of the OT’s because of his size and athleticism. Guys like Trevor Sikkema had Membou in the top tier of their college rankings 6-8 weeks ago, but the Combine and Pro Days tend to move the players with potentially higher ceilings up the boards. Just as measureables are moving Campbell and Graham down, other players move up.

Cam Robinson makes the most sense at this point.
I think you need to plug the LT hole with Robinson and wait for 2026 to draft the long term LT solution.

The question is should we draft Membou early at RT and see if he can convert over to LT over a few years, or draft other BPAs (Graham) and draft Trapillo later to help with RT and be a swing tackle long term.

Membou played well in the SEC and I have always seen Membou in the Top 3 tackles discussion. But Membou was a RT in college so there is the question mark if he can play LT.

I think we sign Cam, fill as many other holes in FA, and take BPA in the draft. Reaching for an OT at 4 when there’s no clear OT worth picking there is a classic mistake.

Cam Robinson or they will draft Campbell
I think it is a less risk to have a short armed Campbell than a RT hoping to be able to make the transition to LT
If we sign Roninson then we can go for Membou or (Simmons with a trade down)
Since Simmons could use a year to recover and get in shape
Cam Robinson AND we should draft an OT in the top 10 picks.

Who do you prefer
The BOTTOM LINE is that we could stand to get FIVE new players for the Ol, keeping only
STRANGE
J ANDREWS (or BROWN)
ONWENU
ROBINSON and
WALLACE

Campbell is probably the best choice. The issue is that I personally do not like the idea of drafting a top RT so that we can move him to LT. (certainly not with a top 5 pick) The combine did NOT make Membau a LT. Yes, he is a much better prospect at RT than Wallace. But isn't the issue the same? In the end the choice is between measurables and on-the-field play against actual opponents. Campbell played excellent LT against the best defenders in college.

AN ASIDE
Who we should draft really depends on who else we add. Do we add a center? do we add a RT? do we add a LG? Also, the team must have an evaluation of Wallace Is he close to being able to be counting on at RT as a starter or backup?

Or trade down and take Simmons.

I’d love to know Scar’s evaluation of Will Campbell right about now

Or trade down and take Simmons.
And at what pick would you be sure to get Simmons or better?

Last year, we had a couple of OT's that we wanted in the lower half of the first. How well did that work?

It is one thing to trade down a few spots to get a "top" OT and then try to get another like Simmons. It quite something else to count on getting the right LT at the bottom of the 1st even if you can into that position.

Will Campbell is not a undersized tackle. He is 6'6" and 320lbs. Isaiah Wynn is 6’ 3’’ 313 lbs. Thats not exactly undersized either.

I am leaning to Campbell as you have noted
His tape is very good at LT
Membou is projection only
If we add a Robinson or Moore. I still add a OT
Simmons would be in play then. He may need some time to heal and get in game shape
His Pro Day will be telling
