So Alaric is 32 4/8" arm length, Campbell is 32 5/8" arm length, and Raiman is 32 7/8" arm length. Alaric was an UDFA, and Raiman was a 3rd round draft pick, 77th overall. Both are similar in arm length to Campbell, you are correct, but neither was ever considered as the #4 pick overall. If you were to suggest that Campbell will be selected in the 3rd round I would say, "Absolutely snag him". The issue is whether Campbell is a good pick at #4 in the first round. Your argument that Alaric and Raiman have similar arm lengths does not appear to be a good argument to select Campbell at #4 overall. It still appears that Membou might be the safer pick at #4.
Neither Raimann or Jackson dominated the way Campbell did in college. Neither were ever considered as good of players. Yet, they've made it work. They had other obvious flaws and were able to overcome short arms. Why wouldn't an athletic freak with great tape at LT in the SEC, that's been widely regarded as a top 5 pick be able to overcome it?
We were going to be interested in Jackson, and would've pushed 20mill per to get him.
If after 4 or 5 years, Campbell is a 20mill+ tackle, he's well worth the 4th pick.
And thats just if he's the 18th ranked OT in the league, according to PFF. Raimann was ranked 8th. A top 10 tackle in the league is worth the 4th pick in a weak draft at the top.
I understand the argument about there being less risk down lower in the draft. But Campbell is seen is THAT much better of a prospect, even with everyone mentioning short arms. That seems to say hes that good and the risk isn't that high.
