Do you want Will Campbell at 4 assuming Hunter and Carter are off the board?

I think I've been one of the biggest supporters of Campbell on this forum, I followed him closely all year live, have seen every snap he played in his 3 years, and like him a lot as a prospect ... but I totally agree with your point here. They need to use the #4 pick to get the player that will have the biggest possible impact on their performance. As of right now I am not convinced that Will Campbell is that player at #4. I'd prefer a guy who can get to the QB and will require a double team, or a guy that can score TDs from anywhere on the field catching and/or running the ball, or a guy no one wants to throw the ball near for fear of their exceptional interception skills.

Here's a fun thought: what if Hunter, Carter, and Graham go 1-2-3? Then who is likely to be thought of as BPA at 4?

We will know so much more this time next week when the mysterious arm length number figures to be revealed. That goes for all of the prospects of course for all their crucial measurements, but since this thread is about Campbell, that arm length thing will be huge either way. I'm guessing it will be above 33" but not by more than a few fractions - Murphy's Law will apply since at that level there will continue to be a lot of debate I think about him in relation to other prospects.
I think I've made my case known. Hint
Oops but I never uttered the word Camp or Bell lol

Campbell arm length measurement is gonna be very important. If his arms are too short he can't play LT. You don't use #4 overall on a guard.

Oh boy! this thread is going to trigger some folks. Evan Lazar did a mock which had Campbell at 4 which I posted on the main board and it was called "horrific". By no reasonable argument can a virtually consensus top 10 prospect and consensus best OT prospect on a team whose biggest need is an OT be considered a horrific pick.

I voted yes a little reluctantly because I have Graham and Warren ahead of him, but if we don't sign a LT in FA all bets are off. Campbell would be a leader of our OL for years to come. He might never be an elite LT but he could comfortably be at the Solder/Light level and they didn't exactly hinder us now did they?

As for Simmons, I'm out on him now. He's my favourite LT in this draft but I don't want a redshirt guy in the first round.

I agree with this take. Campbell isn’t my top pick at 4, but if they whiff on a left tackle in free agency then I won’t have any problem with them taking him there. I think he could play LT for a year or two, then move inside when they get a chance to upgrade. He’s going to be a really good player for a long time.

In other news Mass Live is reporting that Abdul Carter will not throw at the Combine.

Really disappointing. Don’t know how you can accurately evaluate an edge rusher if they refuse to throw?

I'm not saying you did it deliberately, but if you go back to the website you linked to, the asterix says "Measurement from source other than the NFL Combine". Now if you go to the NFL.com website which I take as official, it says his arm length is 33 7/8. Perhaps Jackson didn't take part in the combine and the correct arm length came from his pro day which Mockdraftable didn't update.

Ok if that's true then never mind. Deleting my post.

Don't because the plot thickens. I've now found two other websites that have him at 32.5"

I don't know what's going on.
@Headcase mentioned it in another thread. Thought it was interesting considering all the talk about Campbell.

I’m guessing the confusion is caused by COVID because there wasn’t a combine in 2021. FWIW, Wikipedia has the 33 7/8 number.

This all assumes Campbell measures in with 33 inch arms.
If those arms measure 32 1/2 inches, there’ll be one of those Hitler videos made pretending to be Patriots scouts. A minimum of 33.5 inches for Will Campbell.

Is that asking for too much?

The 32.5 was the senior bowl measurement, Ive seen the 33 7/8 as well, probably all looking at the same sites....but with no source given, I lean towards the one with a source

The Rams have 44 mil in cap space. They need Alaric Jackson. How much do you offer to pry him away in FA based on a limited body of work?

Stanley would be a stop gap. Then what?

I wouldnt necessarily consider Stanley a stopgap. OL have shown they can still be very productive in the last half of their 30's, pushing up on 40. While I'm not saying Stanley could be expected to play another decade, it's not impossible. Other than injuries, I think a guy like Stanley could be counted on for another 5 years. Even if it's 3 years, that's an eternity in today's NFL. It gives you time to draft a replacement in a couple years. Or if you're going the Campbell or Simmons or Ersery road to play RT right now, it's possible they'll take over and kick back to LT eventually.

We really need to know Jackson's true arm length. No way he's an NFL tackle if his arms are under 33". ; )

Well, here it is. Will Campbell comes in at 33 and 7/8ths. Things just got very interesting at #4.

Will Campbell pushes back against arm-length concerns.
I don't think that's accurate. Greg Bedard said he'd been measured pre-season at 32 7/8 and he hasn't been measured yet at the combine so I don't know where that number came from.

By the way, people should go listen to the interview with Connor Rogers at the link . Will sounds like a really good guy. When asked what he would do in the off-season and whether he'd do farming, his reply was - 'I'll be getting ready for next season'. He's winning me over.

With the exception of desirable arm length, he has every trait that you would want in a LT (or just a Pro Football Player In-General). Pro Sports are replete with "Firsts". Is it impossible that even if his arms are under 33 inches he could still be a career 1st Team Pro Bowler/All Pro LT? No. The history says that it's unlikely. Even so, as there's always a first time for everything and everyone, someday some OT with shorter than 33 inch arms is going to be a stud LT. It's inevitable. So, let's not be totally surprised, if given everything else about him as an OT and as a person, that he becomes the 1st!

I don't even need him to be a stud though of course that would be great. Matt Light wasn't a stud. Nate Solder wasn't a stud. They were effective LTs that did enough to allow Tom Brady to cook and that's what we need.

If he becomes a 6'6 Matt Light, that would be totally cool, and I'd take him between Picks #4 through 10!
