Abdul Carter has stress fracture

Feet are so tough. It will need surgery to heal properly but putting a screw in a foot is very touchy. Not an easy procedure and the bone is most likely displaced from stress, even if just a little displacement. Not so important for an old guy where surgery is not necessary, but a displaced foot bone is a tough thing to overcome for a high end athlete.

My daughter ran D1 track and had a foot stress fracture from the hurdles. She had a screw inserted and the foot healed well, but others she knew were not so lucky. The foot bone is so small and fragile it is a difficult surgery that heals slowly. That is why they are taking time to consult with different foot Drs.

Hunter, Graham, and Jalon Walker's draft stock just went up.
I remember when Paul pierce had stress fracture he essentially missed the remainder of the Celtics season. With goddy as good as gone.. maybe it's time to really take a closer look at Graham?

Agree but it's just horrible timing and our Track record with injured Rookies is not very good Tough pass. I would just take the safe pick Mason Graham.
Yes, take Graham.. goddy is on the move.. him being traded is the only movement he has done last 2 seasons anyway.

Does Carter have an injury history? or has he been fairly free of injury?

I'd still take Carter. He has a question now, but him falling to 4 was a pipedream AND it still might be. Every single team considering him is going to have their best doctors taking a look, and they might even demand the surgery before the draft.

Derwin James had this in 2019 and had surgery, 3 all pro years since then.
Michael Crabtree had it as a rookie, spent 10 years as a good NFL receiver.
Details are important, the fact that the opinion on rest vs surgery is mixed is probably a good sign it's not really a severe case that is long-term threatening.
IF the medical details are no different than someone like James had, I'd grab him at 4 if he got there. If there is a question on severity, then you need to pass.
Of course, with the shoulder, the foot, you really need to dig into his medicals. In 3 years, he's barely missed any games though.

When it comes to fixing with a screw or let it heal naturally I'm always on the let it heal side, I remember when they tried to rush Gronk back and put a screw in his broken forearm (that he broke in a FG operation he shouldn't be blocking to begin with) and that didn't heal well he ended up broking that arm again and it was never the same.
Foot is even more risky, I get they may have data to support any decision but they really really can't miss here.

Demand, can they?

Perhaps that is why he seemed so uncomfortable being interviewed by Sims and Florio on PFT

He will be. Hunter is the prize I feel teams ahead of us want..
There are three teams ahead of us. They can't all just take Hunter. If it goes 1) Hunter 2) Ward... who is third?

I wonder if this is a report designed to drive his stock down.

It would have been rebuked by now.
Part of me like you get him at 4 and he never has a issue other part of me has nightmares of constant injuries and degrading performance.

Man

I’m still drafting him if he happens to fall to 4.

If him and his team (agent, family) choose rest and after a week of training camp he ends up needing surgery and misses the season. But that will probably only happen if the Jets draft him LOL!
