Offseason player acquisition thread

If the Patriots release Stevenson before June 1, they'd take a $12.4 million hit in dead money against the cap. If they trade him, they'd only take a $1.6 million dead money hit. So you are stuck with a loss and then need to replace him.
That's true. It will all depend upon how Vrabel view's rham in the long term. They paid Rham may as well just keep him.. unless there's a deal out there like a Rashon Gary for Rham type deal.

I would wait to see how FA plays out. If they can make some serious upgrades on the OL, I'd just keep Stevenson for one more season. Also, let's see if McDaniels brings back the FB which I think Stevenson could use. They also need to ditch the zone blocking.
The whole zone blocking concept comes from the west coast system. I feel like that whole west coast offense is a bit overblown.. We just need a modern, efficient, professionally ran offense.

I understand that GB would give up Gary for a 5th Round Pick. Rham for Gary? Sure!!! And, give them a 5th in 2026 or a 6th this draft and a 5th next draft for Quay Walker as well. Reports around here are that GB doesn't want to (because of other concerns, financial and otherwise) to pick up Walker's 5th Year Option.
Interesting.. well if the compensation is a 5th rounder for a proven stud off the edge then this is something Vrabel should consider. We currently have no edge player on the roster at DE that can do what Gary does.

The Patriots should get on the phone to Cleveland about Jack Conklin. They have relationships with that organization( Vrabel and Wolf), and that would solve both RT and RG for them, as Conklin would become the RT and Onwenu would go back to RG.

ummm what?? this is some flawed logic my friend. Does this mean that every player that has been cut or allowed to walk is garbage? I am going to assume you are fekkin with me.
No, it means when a team is as desperate for a starting left tackle as the Rams are, they have plenty of cap space and don’t want the left tackle they’ve been developing for three years… then he’s probably garbage.

Agreed I've also said keep an eye on the Boston college pipeline... O'Brien and Vrabel are very close. I can see us taking a player or 2 from BC if available to us. Bill wanted no parts of Milano or flowers ..

Why throw the bag at Trey Smith cuz if the chiefs don't want him then neither do we....am I right..

Your logic there. We should also apply it to the draft and anyone passed on should not be our draft pick. Wozzy this is a super bad take about not wanting Jackson if the Rams let him walk.
Trey Smith made the all rookie team and just made the pro bowl, he is an amazing athlete. That I have to explain the difference is absurd. Also the Chiefs will do everything they can to keep him but they’re not in great cap shape… apples/oranges.

That isn't what people were saying about Chuks. People were saying he was a reclamation project because he was 26, Pitt benched him in favor of a draft pick who they were trying to get snaps and then they cut him in the offseason. Completely different situation than Jackson.

YOUR statements that Jackson is "a poor athlete, an unathletic man" is what the Buffoon Brigade said about Matt Light when the Pats drafted him. How'd that turn out?

Sorry, but an "unathletic man" doesn't get BETTER during his 2nde full year as a starter at the position at LT. . Not in the NFC West where he had to face the 49ers twice and the Seahawks twice. This year, in addition to those two, he faced Minnesota Twice and Philly Twice. No sacks allowed, 3 hits and 5 hurries in those 4 games.

He cut the number of QB hits he allowed from 7 to 4 and hurries from 33 to 18. The only team that Jackson has regularly had issues with is San Fran. I don't believe the Pats will face San Fran again until 2027 or 2028 as part of the Regular Season Schedule.
Why are you trying to say what other people were arguing with me about last offseason… are you omniscient? You see every post?

People insisted Okorafor playing a lot meant he was good, see what they’re saying about Jackson above. If they pay Jackson it will be a mistake. Rams are a well run organization, well coached, he’s still a poor athlete.

Complete and utter foolishness coming from the guy who thinks Travis Hunter is 5'8" and played just a little WR.
I don’t know what size Travis Hunter is and neither do you. If you trust a prospects college page you’re a fool. He’s listed at 185… that’s light even if they are embellishing.

The Pats also need linemen on both sides of the ball, pretty foolish take… learn the game.

I wouldn’t get rid of Rham. They shouldn’t be creating holes, they should be adding starters who push current starters to depth roles. If he doesn’t turn it around in 25’ then look at moving on from him.

I get why you'd say that, but if the Rams think they can improve the position with a guy who has actually played the position competently in the NFL, then that's on them.

The Patriots do not have a guy like that.
Why wouldn’t the Rams just pay him if he was good? Why did the Steelers trade up in the first round with the Pats to take an offensive tackle to replace Okorafor if he was good like people here were arguing?

You need to ask yourself why other teams don’t want their own free agents or see a need to upgrade.

You mean like the Giants not competing for Saquon Barkley?
Read what I wrote… The Rams have plenty of cap space and a massive hole at left tackle… one of the most important positions in football.

Also, comparing yourselves to one of the worst run franchises in football is no measuring stick at all. The Giants sucked with Barkley.

I don't understand who is trading for Rham at that contract, as it's that contract why we want to trade him.

If a situation arose where rham was involved in a trade to aquire a game changer on defense you wouldn't entertain it?

The only fool here is you. Travis Hunter is not under 6 feet. Period. Want to place a wager on it?

I absolutely get the sentiment. They're healthy enough capwise to keep him and choose not to. It gives me pause too.

And yet... his production speaks louder. He grades well both in run and pass. Super hard worker who makes himself steadily better every year. He's still my top FA target and it's not close.

I don’t care, 185 pounds is a lightweight

CB is also not a need.
