Late to the Party; But this guy thinks Kraft screwed up BIGTIME

He says we blew a chance to take Drake and the Pats back into Super Bowl relevancy by selecting Vrabel over Ben Johnson. He even goes as far as to say Ben turned down the Commanders last year once he learned that they were selecting Daniels over Maye. That's how bad he wanted to coach him. It's a pretty funny watch so I felt I should share since it's not likely going to garner attention otherwise.

If he’s saying Johnson passed on coaching Daniels because he didn’t think Daniels was good enough for him, either this guy is full of ****, or Johnson is a horrible talent evaluator based on how Daniels did last season.

Either one of those is enough to tell me this thread is a waste of time.

I don't know enough about Terrell Williams, but he seems well respected around the league and Vrabel likes him a lot... so I'll have to trust Vrabel. But he's a first time coordinator, so there's some level of unknown there. He has a ton of experience and deserves a shot for sure. How that translates to the game is a mystery.

I thought Covington would be good last season, but they were undisciplined and underperformed. We'll see. I'm optimistic about this coaching staff in general, a lot more than last year. They have a lot more experience and name brands across the board. Ryan Bowden at GM is probably the biggest question mark for me. They need to prove they can team build first.
Williams has 20 plus years experience in the NFL.. he's sort of like a Flores in a sense long time position coach and we'll respected. You said it Undisciplined and not on thier jobs. Cowden was with Vrabel in Tennessee and was with the front office, and also was assistant GM to Joe Schein at NYG.. the most important position on the field is secure we just need to build up a 90 man roster.

He’s still a rookie coordinator.

We also have to remember we are allowed to carry 90 players during the offseason until cutdown day. How many current players would you say could even make the 90?

He in comparison to covington there is none.
Less so than Flores. Flores was DC in New England, he has proven the ability to produce top NFL defenses wherever he has gone. This guy is an unknown, never been a coordinator. No big deal… unless he sucks at the job.

Flores was a long-term position coach prior to being elevated to DC in 2018.. remember he never called plays either and all that defense did was shut down the Mcvay high flying offense. Vrabel wouldn't have hired Williams if he didn't have pedigree.. and internal knowledge.. let's not forget he worked for Vrabel already.

Williams also had Asst. Head Coach title in Tennessee under Vrable, as well. Vrable has a lot of confidence in William's ability. That's good enough for me, for now. Go Pats

I can’t assume this guy will automatically be as good as Flores, who has proven to be one of the premier DC’s in the NFL.

I’m optimistic, not blinded by fandom.

Yes I remember wasn't that a preseason game Vrabel let him coach?? I would like him to do it again this preseason. Williams is respect thoroughly in the league. Had he stayed in Detroit he was would have been made DC.. Great move by Vrabel.. expect to see an aggressive, pressure heavy one gap defense under Williams.

He's been in the league 20 plus, was an assistant coach to Vrabel.. I'm very optimistic.. anything is better than last seasons defense.. the defense is the reason why gonzo was 2nd team and not 1st team where he belongs. They were embarrassing against the run.

Flo also had the DPLOY in gilly.

Flo has proven himself, thay season where they improved a lot from the start to the end of the season. Also in every DC job he’s had since… we’ll see.

Oh definitely absolutely B Flo is a heck of a coach and I would have glady loved to have him hadn't we gotten Williams. That defense was aggressive from the start.. I'm glad BB allowed Flo to put his own touch on the defense. I never liked zone defense it's to easy for offenses to get in, and stay in rhythm. Man defense and aggressiveness in a one gap system is what you will see.

I would have preferred him if they didn’t get Vrabel, nevermind Williams.

Ben Johnson may turn out to be a good head coach, but we know Vrabal can command a locker room and connect with veterans who need some tough coaching. As we know from watching multiple former Patriots coordinators, it's an entirely different set of relationships when you have to deal with owners, the media, free agents, and a large coaching staff.

My greatest sense of optimism with Vrabel is the number of former head coaches he has on his staff. He is open to working with his peers to get the the best out of the players.

I'm happy with a proven commodity in Vrabes.
I mean Vrabel took the Titans with a mediocre QB to the playoffs twice in 6 years, including the best record in the AFC in 2021. Josh McDaniels has never been a great head coach, simple as that.

I don't see how Ben Johnson is Dynasty 2.0. Vrabel is proven, he's done extremely well. BB didn't look like he was that great either coming from the Browns. I'm sure the dude has had time to reflect.

This guy does a pretty good job with his film review on the QB's but he can be very black and white with some opinions.

His position is you can only succeed with a great offensive play caller as head coach because they will never leave and the offensive play caller is more important than anything else. Couple, a great play caller that will be there long term with a great young QB and you are golden for 15 years.

I agree that is the ideal scenario but plenty of great OC's have flamed out as HC. Replacing a top OC when they leave can be a killer.

Vrabel/McDaniels is really a better scenario. a top OC that won't leave coupled with a top HC. Best of both worlds.

This guy just says Josh did not have a top offense anywhere without Brady so it was all Brady.
Josh, in reality, might be as good as Johnson.

It really comes down to how good (or bad) Josh is as an OC. The guy with 6 SB rings and OC for the greatest offense of all time.

Kind of ironic because this same guy has Drake Maye as the best QB prospect he ever scouted yet hates the guy that called plays and won Super Bowls as the OC for the GOAT.
Not too mention McDaniels was the OC when Tom started to really break out as an all time great QB in stats as well.
