It's easy, and only takes a few moments. He says we blew a chance to take Drake and the Pats back into Super Bowl relevancy by selecting Vrabel over Ben Johnson. He even goes as far as to say Ben turned down the Commanders last year once he learned that they were selecting Daniels over Maye. That's how bad he wanted to coach him. It's a pretty funny watch so I felt I should share since it's not likely going to garner attention otherwise.
Not as bad as the "Roasted" guy, but this dudes a fkn clown, People seem to think Ben Johnson did everything on his own, and that he'll do the same thing as a 1st time HEAD COACH, with BooCoo new responsibilities.
It's like a clown show, some of these clowns think he'll be a do it as a be it all savior....I guess his day is 36hrs long... maybe he can hire Mrs. Williams to sit on the sidelines and rock her baby asleep between each bad series.
You’re really on the money here. While the point is true that you gain inherent advantages with a playcalling HC since he won’t leave, the downside to that is that you need to actually find a guy who’s capable of being the playcaller and also being a good HC simultaneously which is very difficult. Vrabel+McDaniels uniquely fulfills this same advantage across two people - a good and capable HC plus a good playcaller who won’t leave. This guy does a pretty good job with his film review on the QB's but he can be very black and white with some opinions.
His position is you can only succeed with a great offensive play caller as head coach because they will never leave and the offensive play caller is more important than anything else. Couple, a great play caller that will be there long term with a great young QB and you are golden for 15 years.
I agree that is the ideal scenario but plenty of great OC's have flamed out as HC. Replacing a top OC when they leave can be a killer.
Vrabel/McDaniels is really a better scenario. a top OC that won't leave coupled with a top HC. Best of both worlds.
This guy just says Josh did not have a top offense anywhere without Brady so it was all Brady.
Josh, in reality, might be as good as Johnson.
It really comes down to how good (or bad) Josh is as an OC. The guy with 6 SB rings and OC for the greatest offense of all time.
Kind of ironic because this same guy has Drake Maye as the best QB prospect he ever scouted yet hates the guy that called plays and won Super Bowls as the OC for the GOAT.
I hear ya PBP,I’m with @TheRainMaker on this. I think he will not do well in Chicago tho I still wish he ended up here Virgin HC or not…
Absolutely and the defensive line won't be getting run on 17x in a row.. with the coach saying he can't do anything for them once they get on the field.Time will tell.
Unlike last season we have an experienced coach who players will want to play hard for. That’s a good start.
Agreed. Personally I always felt it was defeating the purpose if the HC called plays and not his Coordinators.. I look it like a HC entrust his OC and DC to run the meetings, personnel and packages but not call plays.. I feel like it takes away the HCs ability to fully analyze the entire team on game days. @signbabybradyYou’re really on the money here. I think it’s hard to crap on “McDaniels without Brady” because you have to look at the QBs. When he had a semi-decent QB (Derek Carr, rookie Mac Jones, Matt Cassell) his offense was solid. When his QB was crap (Aidan O’Connell, Kyle Orton, the shell of Cam Newton) his offense was not so good.
We could take the risk, but after Mayo left the organization in smoldering ruins, Kraft needed a surer thing. Ben Johnson may turn out to be the better coach, but it’s not guaranteed and the cost of an another misstep is high. Vrabel will at least build up a professional organization and have the team playing hard, disciplined football: he’s been a successful head coach. We all know that successful coordinators are not guaranteed to be successful head coaches. It’s a very different job. The time to hire a BJ was after BB. Instead we got a condiment. That ship has sailed.I am of the opinion that we could stand to take the risk. The jury is still out on whether or not Drake is the future. We were all singing the praises of Mac after his rookie season. Granted that was under Josh as his OC but the whole culture thing is BS IMO. Vrabel should get us to .500 in the win column but that's not the ultimate goal.
Da Bears have become the jest liteThe Bears are cursed.
They always screw up when picking QBs. I'm not sold on Williams at all. The Chiefs OC went there and ruined his name.
Ben Johnson supposed loved Drake and that was his attraction to the job. However he was always going to a team with a ready-made roster. I agree Vrabel, McDaniels and marrone don't forget Williams as well.Frankly I’d rather have Vrabel, McDaniels and Doug Marrone coaching the offensive line than the complete unknown of Ben Johnson without the Detroit superteam around him.
The reason Ben picked the Bears was because the Patriots hired Vrabel extremely fast.Ben Johnson supposed loved Drake and that was his attraction to the job. However he was always going to a team with a ready-made roster. I agree Vrabel, McDaniels and marrone don't forget Williams as well.
I don't know enough about Terrell Williams, but he seems well respected around the league and Vrabel likes him a lot... so I'll have to trust Vrabel. But he's a first time coordinator, so there's some level of unknown there. He has a ton of experience and deserves a shot for sure. How that translates to the game is a mystery.Ben Johnson supposed loved Drake and that was his attraction to the job. However he was always going to a team with a ready-made roster. I agree Vrabel, McDaniels and marrone don't forget Williams as well.
It's dumb to compare HC's to coordinators. I agree with you on that.Ben Johnson seems to be getting all the credit for the Lions recent success. He's an assistant coach. Vrabel was a head coach.
And just by their teams' records alone, Vrabel has had more success.
Ben Johnson for his 5 years with the Lions:
2019 3-12-1
2020 5-11
2021 3-13-1
2022 9-8
2023 12-5
2024 15-2
Total: 47-51-2
Vrabel in his 6 years with the Titans:
2018 9-7
2019 9-7
2020 11-5
2021 12-5
2022 7-10
2023 6-11
