Offseason player acquisition thread

Jenkins is an interesting name. Drafted as a tackle, then moved to RG, then LG. He's a guy who's best football might be ahead of him if he settles into one position, which would be LG for us. You always want to sign guys who's next 4 years will be better than their last 4.

Andrews will hypothetically be back at C and Strange could go back to LG but he seems kind of a scheme specific player with the McVay zone concepts. Might not be a guy they pencil in as a long term scheme fit at LG and maybe he fits better at C longer term too. He's a FA after the year, anyway.

Not sure why you think that Strange is a "scheme specific" type player. He's literally the same Height/Weight as Matt Light, but with better atheleticism.

I'd give the Rsms a 3rd for Stafford.
Are you talking about the Pats or the Giants trading for them. I hope that it is the latter.

Alaric Jackson and Teven Jenkins would solidify the left side of the line for years to come.

Center is going to be an interesting watch between free agency and the draft. Heck, free agency is going to be interesting just to see what the Pats do with Alex Austin, Ben Brown, and Christian Elliss.
I've been on the Jackson bandwagon for months now. He's my #1 choice as a FA OT target. He'd be smart to test the free agent waters because this offseason is probably his one shot at the brinks truck but it is also possible that he'll be convinced to resign with the Rams before the start of FA. The Rams are in decent shape from a cap perspective.

Jenkins has reportedly performed well at LG over the past teo years and his aggressive play style would fit with what Vrabel is likely looking for in an O-lineman but his 14 games played in 2024 was the highest total in his l4 years in the league. I'd be hesitant to give him the 10-12m per year that some have projected with his inability to stay out of the training room.

I think Strange is our best IOL and one of the most mobile in the league. He’s gonna be a starter for us at either LG or C. Wish we knew more about how Vrabel feels about David Andrews so we can design the OL here at Patsfans.com.

I know how I feel about him and I think he's earned the right to fight for his job. He's a lock for the Pats HOF and while his injury history can't be ignored he is still your best C IMO.

I think the best way to set the line up is to get two tackles in free agency, move Strange to Center, and Onwenu back to guard. Make Layden Robinson the left Guard.

You know that you can't only sign probowlers right?

True, but their free agency focus should be to get high quality starters, not depth. The starters create depth by pushing last seasons starters to the bench.

Exactly, and then draft depth. Sidy Sow showed potential in his rookie year, and lost it this past season. I think everyone gets a mulligan for 2024 because of how dysfunctional it was. We really don't know what Caedan Wallace is. He was decent at RT while at Penn State. I think we need to stop this idiocy of every o-lineman can play every position on the line. The guy started four years in college at RT and we wonder why he wasn't very good at LT? Put him back to his position and let's see that he has as a backup.

Really hope a more serious HC like Mike Vrabel lights a fire under Sidy Sow's @ss.

The problem though is most of the "starters" last year should not be here, so they will need replaced as well as getting the starter.

That’s not something I would prioritize in free agency. This team needs 6-8 high quality starters this offseason. I would get those then deal with any depth concerns. They aren’t going to the Super Bowl next year so they shouldn’t worry about how deep their bench is. They need guys who can really contribute.

Yea I have mentioned it several times the Skins completely reshaped their team by bringing in at least 11 staters in FA last year. The Signed 26 internal and external FAs.

I would rather get fewer starters of higher quality. They don’t have to accomplish the rebuild in one offseason, they just have to nail the players they get.

Yeah i think we should sign the two tackles and then take a year to evaluate the interior.

On the interior :

Rg- onwenu

C - possibly get David Andrews back
Jake andrews will be back and a possibility
Strange can play here if not those 2.

Lg - strange if hes not needed at c
Layden Robinson is a possibility
Sow is an outside possibility, regressed in year 2
Add a late round flier to the mix, thats probably all id do here for this year.

You have 3 players on your list who can't play, and one who stole 19 million last year pretending he couldn't.

Id rather give guys like onwenu a chance to rebound than give up and make another hefty investment. Theres other areas where we are more certain the answer is not on the roster while strange-andrews-onwenu could still work on the interior.

C is the only spot id think long and hard about but id rather focus first on ot, edge, dl, wr, mlb
