Offseason player acquisition thread

Former Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who played with Mike Vrabel, could be an option. He'd be a No. 3, and there are even questions about that at this stage of his career, but this is still a former 1,500-yard guy.

Really hope that's a joke... Our Offense needs youth and Speed: not a washed up WR.
Polk and Baker not doing it for you?

If Schefter is right that the Rams will eat salary and take a 4th for Kupp I would go for that.
I prefer Deebo, but yes that would a good acquisition.
Neither would be my favorite, but I’d prefer either to overpaying for Higgins. I’d be happy with Higgins only if it doesn’t cost so much that there’s not enough cap space to do everything else that’s needed. In fact I’d rather prioritize fixing the foundation first and spending for splashy WRs in a year or two when we’re ready to contend.

I have more hope for Polk than Baker. Reportedly Baker couldn’t learn the playbook last season, and if that’s true there’s almost no hope for him in this offense.

Please, let's not fall into old-regime ruts like signing/trading for over-paid, past-prime WR's.
NO WAY: Kupp, Hopkins, Deebo, Diggs, Evans, Godwin
MAYBE: AJ Brown, Higgins, Metcalf (for decent $, not $30M/yr)
ABSOLUTE YES: D. London, D. Johnson

Are you referring to Deontae Johnson? If so, he sucks.

'Maybe' on AJ Brown
'Absolute Yes' on Dionte Johnson.

You can't be ****ing serious.

Stop the AJ Bown crap. He has a dead cap of $31.6 million. This is the NFL and not a stupid video game. The Eagles are not trading him.

If the Pats are able to sign Tee I expect people’s heads to explode when they announce the initial number.

To me being mentioned to the Patriots means that he’s less likely to sign here and is instead using the Pats for leverage.

I think one thing that will benefit us this year compared to last is having coaches on staff who have been other places. Our best outside FA signing last year was probably Hooper. He wasn't looking at big money anywhere, but he had familiarity with AVP's system and I imagine that was probably a differentiating factor for him in signing to be the backup TE here vs. somewhere else. We didn't have a lot of that last year with so many NE-grown coaches.

It might not be a major factor at the top of the market, but when you get into those later waves of free agency I think it could help us with those lower cost, "stop gap" type of signings. Instead of blindly throwing **** against the wall we'll be able to target guys our coaches know well.

Al-Quadin Muhammad, for example, is a depth signing type of guy on the edge. He played for Terrell Williams in DET last year. Same with Marcus Davenport. They won't be splashy big name signings but they could absolutely be on par with the type of production we got out of Hooper last year at a different position and now we have someone with a relationship with those guys as part of the staff.

Lucas Patrick started 25 games over the last few seasons and played for Doug Marrone with the Saints last year. So again, maybe there's a relationship there that we can use to land him on a good deal in the 2nd wave.

Scott Booker was hired as a safeties coach and he was nickelbacks coach with the Bills last year so maybe he has some relationship with Rasual Douglas at CB (not a 1 for 1 position coach fit but you all get the idea).

Todd Downing was passing game coordinator with the Jets so maybe he has insight or a relationship with Mike Williams from last year. OK now I'm reaching.

The point is though that you can't fill everything with perfect solutions. One year stop gaps are inevitable and having coaches who have worked other places could be a big help in doing better in that area than we did last year.

Steelers have drafted OTs in the first round in each of the last two drafts so I wonder how much of a priority Dan Moore Jr will be for them at LT. He's far from a world beater. If he's your starting LT then you should consider that position a need, but not an urgent, find someone at all costs level of need. He's going into his age 27 season and has played in/started 66 out of a possible 68 games so far in 4 year career. So you're getting someone who's consistently available and stops the bleeding at the LT spot.

As we've all discussed, starting caliber LTs are hard to find. Might be a good player to make an early run at. Still a position we should prioritize finding a better player through the draft at even if we land him, but I think he's decent enough that you don't have to force it. I think he'd be a great target for us.

Alaric Jackson and Teven Jenkins would solidify the left side of the line for years to come.

Center is going to be an interesting watch between free agency and the draft. Heck, free agency is going to be interesting just to see what the Pats do with Alex Austin, Ben Brown, and Christian Elliss.
Jenkins is an interesting name. Drafted as a tackle, then moved to RG, then LG. He's a guy who's best football might be ahead of him if he settles into one position, which would be LG for us. You always want to sign guys who's next 4 years will be better than their last 4.

Andrews will hypothetically be back at C and Strange could go back to LG but he seems kind of a scheme specific player with the McVay zone concepts. Might not be a guy they pencil in as a long term scheme fit at LG and maybe he fits better at C longer term too. He's a FA after the year, anyway.

Maybe not, but one can dream can one not?

One guy who really intrigues me is LB Nick Bolton of the Chiefs. Championship experience and a real "leader of the defense" type of playing style. He'll only be 25 next year. He's not great in coverage but he's still 3-down caliber at the MIKE.

Him and Bentley is a pretty weak coverage duo at LB but Bentley is 29, in the last year of his deal, and coming off injury so they really shouldn't be making ant decisions based on how they fit around him. We have so much cap space and such a weak roster that they don't really need to worry about cutting him to make room salary or position wise, but they could save $4.6M by cutting him if they didn't like the duplication.

It's not the biggest positional need but he could be a good "program setter" type of player for the new era. As of right now we only have 14 players signed for the 2027 season so it's pretty much a blank slate long term. He could be a good foundational type of piece. MLB is one of those spots it's good to have a championship vet with experience at.

The Rams will really be irrelevant if they do this deal.
Could they just sign Darnold or a Justin Fields?
All I know if Mcvay comes calling for Milton I would hold on to him.
Mcvay doesn’t miss often on players.

Maybe not, but one can dream can one not?
Go right ahead. We just won the Super Bowl and Drake won MVP. Dream all you want. It doesn't mean it has to be posted over and over and over like its a possible scenario.

While I agree with needing youth, maybe bringing in some well known vets will help recruiting said younger dudes here. "Oh I want to play on Nuk's team, he's a baller!" or whatever they say these days...I'd be down with bringing in some older dudes but it can't be a huge overpay. We have to start somewhere, or at least start with something better than what we have.

sweat was on my want list for a while, im fearing he may be very difficult to obtain now.

Who else is worth big bucks at edge? I was also interested in reddick his value might be lower after a down season among the jets dysfunction. But his production prior to this year is impressive. Mack and Lawrence are on alot of the lists but really getting up there in age
Chase Young is still young lol
