Burn Some Cash 2: Jerod's Ghost

If we sign new players for $100M in 2025 cap money, the cap money for these players would be higher for 2026. ignoring one-year contracts.
Probably. Someone on here a few weeks back, when I said we need to hold some cap money is reserve to be prudent, chastised me vehemently because they showed that we'll still have over 100 Million in Cap Money for 2026 even if go go on a spending bender this off-season. I suspect that whoever we sign this off-season, would cut into the 2026 money (whatever that amount would be).

You’re correct. But also, 2026 cap will probably increase. So it’s kind of both.

Riding a bike in Florida has the extra added risk of sharing the road with what we used to call "Blue Hairs". Blue hairs are the nice "Old Ladies" who had just left their hair dressers and their hair seemed to have a bluish hew to it.
UV light yellows white hair. Purple dye is used to cancel that out and make the hair pure white. But, if the mix isn’t right or it’s left on too long, the hair gets a bluish tinge. There are purple shampoos you can get to keep the yellow away, boys. I use it once or twice a week. Bonus: white hair tends to get very stiff due to the loss of natural pigment. The dyes fix that.

Let's analyze a bit more.

let's use Henry's contract as an example: $9M AAV or 3/$27M plus incentives.
The caps were about $5M, $11M and $11M.
==========
SIGN EIGHT HENRY CONTRACTS $72M AAV
2025 cap hit: $40M
2026 cap hit: $88M
2027 cap hit $88M
=========
LET US SPEND $30M ON OTHER PLAYERS
The 2025 total cap hit would be $70M, After paying 2025 incentives of say $10M, that would total $80M carrying forward about $30M.

$109M net cap money is available in 2026. These new contracts would take $88M of that. Hopefully, the increase in the cap would help us be able to meet the cap and get additional players.

2027 would require lots of restructures as one would expect.

Kraft has to be willing to spend the money.
I feel like him firing Mayo and staff and still paying them and then hiring Vrabel and letting him bring in 20+ coaches is him spending money and I don't forsee him not paying for free agents this offseason.

That's all HIS FAULT.
IDGAS ABOUT HIS IDIOCY/SPENDING.
HE Created that **** storm.

And thank Eliot Wolf for that. The Giants blew money, signed a mediocre guard for 100 million, let their best player walk for a fraction of that, and then totally sucked again this season.

, Wolf recognized players didn’t want to come here, and that the market sucked, re-signed the guys they wanted to keep, meaning they don’t have to re-sign them this year, and tried to get some depth.

Now they have almost no one to resign, will have well over 135 million to play with in a much better market, and are a more desirable franchise to sign with than they were a year ago.

Hate Eliot Wolf all you want to but he was right to stand pat, despite the mountain of **** he took for it, and they are going to reap the rewards of that decision this offseason.
Good post, I think he has had far too much blame for what went on last season. I hope we have a great draft and FA then he can stick his middle finger up to the haters.

Let’s actually do it this time. At least get some productive players in the building.

He signed a lot of less desirable players though. None of the OLs he acquired were worth much and that’s why Peters could get the Bengals gig. Wolf threw a lot against the wall and a lot didn’t stick - or just stunk.

Vrabel & Co. should make a big difference in player evaluation.

Please understand that in 2023, the patriots had close to the MOST guaranteed money signed. It wnt almost unnoticed because the money was spent on our own players. Some of this might happen again with Jon Jones, Hooper, Austin, Ellis and possibly Wise and Slye.

But, yes, we will again be near the top in free agent money spend, likely with much, much less carried over.
Please understand we drastically overpaid our own guys vs the return... And despite the over-spend, we still ended up with nearly 40 million dollars in cap space when things were all said and done...

Football is a profitable business... Kraft is banking major dollars, no doubt, when he should be spending it on talent... Can only say "not up to our expectations" so many times while being in the bottom third of spending for years on end... the only blip on that trend was the year we brought in Judon, HH, Smith, etc...

They said that last year... how did that work out??
True, but... so much is different this year, they might have some good FAs interested in playing here because of Maye and Vrabel. We're in a much better position than last year as far as the QB and coaching go. The staff is flush with experienced professionals now, not friends and family of Jerod. Robyn Glaser is no longer walking the halls.

It may not help that the owner is still Bob Kraft, a man capable of making such a monumentally stupid decision as hiring Jerod Mayo (his worst, aside from letting TB12 walk), letting his own personal feelings trump his brain and best instincts. Still, he admitted his mistake and has moved in the opposite direction in a big way.

I mean, we don't have a choice this year.

They said that last year... how did that work out??

Ask yourself this question PF2, would you rather they had spent their money in last year’s free agency class or this one?

If you chase shiny hood ornament WR’s, get rebuffed and sign stiffs like Okorafor, Leverett and Jordan on offensive line… you’ll suck again.

Go after the premium linemen first…
Is there any proof we went after most premium FA, besides a few of the Vet WR's? We signed Chuks before FA even started since he was cut.

There were no premium OL in last year’s class, that’s why the Giants paid 100$ million to Robert Hunt. I’m glad they saved the money for this year. And I wouldn’t be surprised if the knowledge that the Patriots are hungry for OL, and have plenty to spend on it is why guys like Alaric Jackson and Noteboom haven’t signed deals with the Rams. Their agents have told them to be patient and let free agency get them better deals.
