If they trade Kupp as a post 1 June designation it frees up 20 mil and I am sure they will resign Alaric Jackson. Not implying that we should trade for Kupp just expressing my frustration that we probably won't get Alaric.
There's no such thing as a "post-6/1 designation" for trades. Only cuts.

Unless we are desperate to secure his services, there is no reason to trade for him... he is going to be a free agent... will get cut because of that contract - his 29m dollar cap hit in 2025 pretty much guarantees that...

Cap ramifications of a trade absolutely change post-6/1 for many contracts. AJ Brown is a prime example this year. If Philly trades him prior to 6/1 they take on an extra 13 million cap hit vs post 6/1 they save 7 million.

Feels like the kind of trade you make to help out your sophomore QB. Is he elite? Not anymore but he’s still very good. Is he a little old? Yeah, but they likely aren’t looking for more than a few seasons from him anyway.

If they can lure him with a promise of a 1 year extension plus converting his first year salary into a signing bonus, I could see it working out. Many other teams will want him to cut his pay somehow.

It would be really interesting to trade for him and then sign Godwin in FA. Kupp/Godwin/Pop seems like a great trio for Josh’s offense.
Would this be a rare case where not converting salary to signing bonus would be better? Usually that’s done to lower immediate cap hit by spreading signing bonus out. But this year Pats are flush with cap space, so why reduce future cap space with dead money? Maybe restructure by adding a third year, perhaps use some NLTBE bonuses to sweeten it?

I get the concern about the cost and age, but I’m struggling to find a solution to WR that everyone is happy with. Can’t seem to trust this team to draft and develop WR’s, and this upcoming draft class is a step down from last year’s. You can draft McMillan but everyone seems afraid of him being another N’Keal Harry. You also risk passing on a core defensive player (Carter/Hunter/Graham) who is a better overall prospect and safer bet to succeed. The free agent group consists of young but expensive and injury-riddled guys or proven but older and declining guys or mediocre, Agholor types. Trading costs salary and draft picks. Maye and Vrabel are a great QB/HC foundation to build upon but there are plenty of other teams who have a strong QB/HC combo who are more desirable destinations. Nobody is itching to come here. So what do we do? What is the solution at WR?
that’s the problem. You have three ways to acquire players: draft, trade, or free agency.

Draft is a crap shoot, and this team has shown no ability to roll any winners.

Trade is expensive veterans who don’t fit their previous team needs, which usually mean too expensive, too often injured, marginal/declining performers, or most often all of the above. Maybe a change in coaching philosophy results in an exceptional player hitting the market, but that’s so rare that they’re likely overvalued by the rest of the teams looking for a sure fix.

Free agents are either JAGs or as described above. And also likely overvalued by the rest of the teams looking for a sure fix.

Pick your poison.

Of course all that said is true for all positions, and we have needs at so many positions that we will be taking large doses of all the poisons.

Kupp was elite, but is old and broken now

Would kick the tires for like a 6th rounder or something

This is a difficult one. Yes he is aging and does not have many years left in him. On the other hand he is still better than anything else we have in the Rec room. Flip a coin.

And pay $20M a year for 2 years? Old and broken does not = $20M for 2 years.

The coin costs $20M for 2 years. That is an expensive flip.

Would be a great fit here. Just sayin…

According to a know-it-all poster on here says that he will be released... I'll take him all day and then some!!

Pretty sure Adams is not a McDaniels fan

We know MacDaniels had issues with the team, but I don’t know if Adams was one of the player’s who had an issue with him.

I have to admit that I didn’t used to put that much stock in the argument about WR’s turning 30, and thought it had more to do with the individual player, but looking at the way some great WaR’s have literally fallen off the face of the earth after hitting 30 has changed my view on it. There are a few who are able to manage the drop off somewhat, like Adam Thielen, but when I see what happened with a guy like Amari Cooper it really scares me off of them. He went from a really productive WR to toast in less than a year.

Maye needs WR help, no question about it, but they need to be really smart about who they bring in. Names like Kupp and Diggs and Cooper sound good because of their past production, but if they have hit the cliff they could end up being a waste of $$$ and time.

I would rather see them stay away from the older WR’s and take a couple on Day 2 of the draft.

We probably can have him if we really want him. If we offer a 3rd (as someone suggested) and pay him the $20M a year, Kupp has no choice.
I agree there.. the 3rd for judon for kupp I'd think LAR would be very happy with that return. I like the idea of Drake having a guy that's a savy route runner, excellent hands, tough as nails, and a excellent team guy. With McDaniels at OC having kupp, pop, Boutte and another guy could really take this offense upwards.
