Offseason player acquisition thread

Pats need to go back to basics where most teams are sleeping on. I want a top flight WR like everyone else, but so does every team in the NFL. What they are neglecting is the low hanging fruit of running the football. Eagles, Lions and Ravens have finally exposed this current era of run defenses. Philly this last Sunday flat out embarrassed Washington Madden style.

Defenses aren't built to stop the run, so a devastating ground game with a competent QB is going to be a huge advantage. Build the OL and find a real RB - not these current players that look like Ty Montgomery when they tried him at RB out of desperation in GB. Basically WR's moonlighting at RB. Too many "hybrids". Rham could be that guy that's an old school RB that can wear down teams. They paid him, so go out there and get some damn blocking to build around him.

I'm totally fine with Higgins signing here, but they need to address the OL.
And get Rham some of this......

Also wonder whats the plan for Marte Mapu. I know I’ll get the typical…hes a bust…terrible pick…etc.etc.
Don’t give a crap about that. He’s on the team and played solid while on the field. Interested to see what a legit coaching staff can get out of him

I deleted the post because I found conflicting info on who would eat the void years. There's differing info out there regarding who eats the option bonus portion of the dead money. That's potentially around $16M in potential cost difference to the acquiring team

In which case he’s untradeable.

Saw earlier someone mention trading Onwenu. Hard disagree there. He wasn't great last year, but still our best OL by a mile. I definitely would not cut ties with solid starters on the line right now.

Depending on how the financials shakeout it would seem that way. Although SF does have a lot of bodies at WR so a post June 1st trade might be possible if the money isn't insane

I can't imagine a good reason why we would deal big Mike. Especially at his worst value.

I know he was injured, so maybe a discount, but Dre Greenlaw could look good in a pats uni
Greenlaw yes!! Gladly take him. I want our pressure to come from our defensive line like all great patriots defenses did. That way our LBs can set the edge and drop RBs in the backfield.

The Steelers owner had said his was goal was to keep TJ in Pittsburgh making him the highest paid defensive player ever.
I don’t see it.
Agreed. Especially with the Steelers saying they plan to retain Wilson or fields.. that right there is going to cost just simply by QB salaries.. I'd absolutely love watt.. imagine Watt, Carter, white, Bentley, chase young ,Barmore!

We just need a solid #2 to elevate Pop Douglas and Boutte who should be better this upcoming season. Player X pushes them down to a more favorable notch.
Jakobi please.. trade 4 to 6 to raiders for additional second rounder + jakobi and send an additional 6th rounder to raiders.( If Carter is not available )

At 6-3 230 His size and athleticism fit what the Titans had under Vrabel. They said they want to run more of a Tennessee style defense.

Edit: I meant to specify at LB

I read an internet article that suggested that the Pats should trade for OT Evan Neal of the Giants and try to coach him up. Sounds terrible.

Culture change? End of "entitlement", the word Vrabel himself used?

More stupid garbage from Captain MJ. Seriously. If you were in charge of the Patriots, they'd never win another game with the sort of garbage you suggest, Captain.

You still can't handle that you were 100% WRONG about Onwenu. So no one is surprised that you want to can the guy.

Same goes for Tavai. He was one of the better players on the Pats defense the last 2 years and you want to jettison him. Not because he SUCKS. But because your EGO can't handle that you've been wrong about the guy.

Overseas, I get why people are looking at the draft in terms of need, I’m looking at it in terms of trying to get the best players for the longer term build.
I agree, in theory teams should have a complete roster before the draft and then bring in the best talent available to improve units and/or find younger / cheaper models that could have similar production.

A good draft is usually 1-2 starters, 2-3 backups and maybe a couple bottom of roster JAGS.

For the Patriots they should aim to have an upper level WR and starting tackle on the roster before the draft. Either trade or free agency, because they suck they will have to overpay, it is what it is.

Marone was his OL coach in 2021, So maybe there is something there and it wouldn't cost much.

I am curious about Evan Neal and Jedrick Wills given their past pedigree

Ronnie Stanley and Cam Robinson said to say hello.

Cam Robinson was horrible over the last 5 games of his season.

Stanley is over 30. It remains to be seen if Wolf changes his MO.
