Flacco believed to be in the running as a backup for New England in 2025

According to Tony Pauline of SportsKeeda, the 49ers, Steelers, and New England are believed to be in the running for his services this offseason.

I'm certainly for having an experienced veteran in the locker room behind Maye, but I guess the question might be either where Joe Milton is at by the time we get to the end of training camp, and whether or not he's ready to the point where it makes sense to allow him to be the backup. Otherwise, I certainly feel like he'd be a good candidate. From there, it's just a matter of whether or not he's looking for a better opportunity to compete in camp elsewhere, or if he'd be looking to be a mentor here.

Then again, after what Milton showed at the end of last year, they may not need a veteran and they can maybe instead draft somebody late again and keep the 3rd QB on the practice squad..

He's obviously not a guy you want to start, but he's proven to be a good guy to have around. At the same time, if Milton proves he can handle it, maybe they don't even end up going that route.

I don't know much about Flacco the mentor. If he is a clubhouse leader and teacher then sure, a year of Flacco as QB3 helping to establish the culture may be worth the 53rd spot on the roster.

I love this

I think Milton is the biggest beneficiar. Flacco, who seems to be a great QB mentor, can give him mental reps while Maye is playing, help out on some thing that Drake have on instinct (not to mention just help both of them with questions and all that).

by the start of next season, even with a perfect off season, we might not have 53 players worth a NFL roster spot, so taking one away to build a actual great (potentially) QB room, with 2 young guys is excellent

I can't see downsides, i much rather have him than a 4th string LB who brings value as back-up wing setter in Kick-off returns

Depends on the $$s. If more than a couple million, it is a waste of cap dollars. If they want veteran QB leadership then hire Hoyer as a player coach, and that costs zero cap dollars.

I think the vet player helping with the coaching thing is way overblown. Why do we have coaches if a vet doing coaching is necessary?

Meh, he had a mentor last year. Frankly, I think it stifled him.

There is no need to think about SB's and Flacco when the building is full of former players and coaches that have won multiple SB's after Flacco won his.

I did not say sign Hoyer as a player. Sign Hoyer as a coach. Maye is QB1. Milton is QB2. Paying anything but minimum for QB3 is NUTS. We aren't likely going to the Super Bowl, if we are playing QB3 there is no chance. No need to waste cap space on QB3.

If Hoyer was a player, would you still be thinking it's bad? Coaches and Players have rules on how to interact, which does not apply from players to players, that's the first big one, which I don't think you are considering

Then I don't think anyone will be more hands on than the 3rd QB who is a SB winner. You think he won it during the Brady era due to luck? His "bombs" just happen to work? I guarantee you he put hours of studying to know when was the best time to launch it.

But who cares if he won recently, right? Might as well bring Jhonny Foxborough back. Let's leave it up to the current leaders there, undoubtetly they can set the example. I mean who does not want to follow guys like Lawrence Guy, Bentley and Johnathan Jones, some (if not all) our SB winners.
