The only way to fix this is to take Mahomes out. I mean, if you're going to get penalized for a light hit, might as well make it hurt. And it would be the NFL's own doing.

I came to post the same thing. At some point a player is going to think, if I'm going to get a 15 yard penalty, I'm going to get my 15 yards worth....pound of flesh.

I wouldn't be surprised if it happens in championship. Von Miller could do the hit on mahomes and knock him out of Superbowl if he did any of his dirty tricks and the refs are under immense pressure. Noway can they give one more tacky call for mahomes. If that were the case, just take mahomes out with a 15 yard penalty and then play flag football with the backup. The league is setting up mahomes to get injured and leave apart chiefs fans nobody is even gonna battle an eyelid for that.

Jesus this is really embarrassing. So now not only do the Chiefs get special treatment but if you are even remotely related to ("generally aware" anyone?) someone who recognizes and says something about this special treatment then you also get in trouble. God forbid they actually just fix the problem. Anything for the golden boy and the Swifties.

Also might end up causing a Streisand Effect here where they end up drawing excess attention to this issue by fining someone talking about it without just cause.
What I hate so much about the Chiefs is that they are everything the media for years tried to portray the Patriots as being.

The NFL ballwashing, favorable calls, all of it.

Why rely on the league to fix it?

There are independent stats companies evaluating players.
Why not an independent stat review of refs? Publish an error rate. Get the information to fans.
We already have a system where the television coverage - multiple angles, slow motion - is far ahead and far faster than what the refs see.
So 100 million people know instantly that the refs blew a call.
The league is naturally defensive - and it's a hard job.

But so is being a QB or corner. It's a hard job. And if you make too many mistakes, there's someone else in the pipeline eager to take your job. If the media starts quoting blown call rates, the league will have enough pressure to counterbalance their conservative defensiveness. If they don't have to make changes, they won't. Never admit an error - unless you have to.

Then the refs would have additional motivation to get the calls right, and learn from their blown calls.
The problem isn't the refs, because no matter how good they are they're going to miss some. It's the review process and the league's lack of commitment to getting it right. If we can see a wrong or missed call, there's no excuse for letting that stand. Don't allow the offense to rush the next play to cover up an incomplete pass. Allow a review ref to "throw a flag" after the play. Get the call right.

...this was never a problem when our guy Tommy was getting the calls, by the way...
Except he wasn't getting the calls. That was a myth.

There was a thread on here that showed Brady got more hard hits without calls than any QB with the exception of Ben Roethlisberger who was hit far and away more times than anyone without calls.

I'm not a fan at all with the way Mahomes plays the game. With that said, this Chiefs team isn't very good and them getting calls wouldn't be a problem if the rest of the NFL was any good. Their team as regressed the last few years, yet other teams are regressing with them. This is the weirdest **** I've seen since watching the NFL.

When i played football( yes my al bundy story). i tried to make it look like if someone knocked my block off... i was fine and tried to minimize the hit.

I should have been flailing around like a deranged autist when remotely touched... I would have been ahead of the mahomes curve, for sure.

Follow the money, it will take you to 345 Park Avenue. It is no coincidence that they simultaneously took over of officiating calls in real time while all but eliminating the long standing league prohibition of sanctioning gambling.

Say what you want about Rozelle and Tagliabue, but they were smart enough to realize the threat posed to the league by even a hint of potential corruption. They were kept in line by smart and tough journalists who would be suspicious of ties to gambling and would make damn sure to expose corruption (I’m not talking about Wil McDonough, I’m referring to journalists with actual integrity). Now we have a nitwit as Commissioner who nobody sensible thinks has any actual authority and a league that is in bed with sports betting operators.

"Deranged autist"? ****ing clown.

Im sorry Ahmed... i didnt mean to offend any other deranged autists on this board.

I didn't realize how much you love Patrick Mahomes... and would defend his floppery...

You should lay off the tap water... before you know it, you will be listening to taylor swift and wearing a queefs jersey...

How about the Chiefs intentional Safety?

I don't know why they only allowed one season of challenging a penalty as I thought it was a great idea. The conspiracy theorist in me thinks it takes out the ability of the NFL to manipulate outcomes. I find it amusing that most commentators do not like to go against the officiating and its even worse by guys like Gene Steratore (rules analyst) as they make excuses for why a call was made a certain way. Every once in awhile a guy like Aikman gets fired up during a game after a few ****tails but most tow the party line.

I'm not sure what pisses me off more the phantom roughing the passer calls or this ****:

The NHL has embellishment penalties and the NBA has diving but in the NFL the player who best executes those maneuvers gets the MVP award

1000% agree an embellishment penalty should be instituted.

As you know it's a minor so maybe a 5yd penalty?

Rule 64 – Diving / Embellishment 64.1 Diving / Embellishment – Any player who blatantly dives, embellishes a fall or a reaction, or who feigns an injury shall be penalized with a minor penalty under this rule. A goalkeeper who deliberately initiates contact with an attacking player other than to establish position in the crease, or who otherwise acts to create the appearance of other than incidental contact with an attacking player, is subject to the assessment of a minor penalty for diving / embellishment.

It's a minor because it equals the punishment the player is attempting to draw on the other team. Since RTP is a 15 yarder, a QB embellishing should be a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty.

Seems incongruent as RTP leads to injury and embellishment does not but thats fine.

On that same line the last-minute slides which makes it impossible for the defender to pull up in time to avoid the hit also need to be looked at.

"More probable than not"

I've been working through an idea for this too which I haven't fully thought out. But basically my idea is that if you want protection instead of of a slide or even for running out of bounds you should have to call for a fair catch or something like that.

It already works on punts and as we just witnessed with Maye earlier in the season sometimes the slide is more dangerous.
