I read some stuff about Chip Kelly being thought about, I don’t hate the idea.

That will never happen. I don’t know of one case where an offensive coordinator changed their offensive system. Their system is their system, the players have to adapt to it, not the coordinator,

If anyone has heard of an offensive coordinator changing systems feel free to say otherwise, but imo the idea that MacDaniels would change from EP to West Coast is a fantasy.

Sorry its been a min, i meant to respond to this and forgot. I agree it probably wont happen but if they hired McDaniels, which is looking less likely by the day, then its whats best for Maye and that is my lone concern in who they hire or what system they run. I think everything else around that is overblown and not as important as people are making it out to be. I think time in the same system, no matter what system, is the most important component to long term success. So the most important part of the OC hire IMO is 1) use the same verbage Maye learned last year, if you have another system translate it, i dont want too much put on Maye's plate too early. 2) get the hire right so that we do not have a new one for the first 2, 3, 4 years of Maye's career.

I did a quick google to see if it came up with an OC that switched from EP to WCO and mostly found examples of switching styles more then system like going spread or focusing on the strech run game. I still think McDaniels could run WCO if he had 6 months to get up to speed but to your point i dont have an example of it being done.

Although there isn't even rumors of him interviewing, I am starting to think that Dave Ragone, currently QB coach for the Rams, might be a favorite for the OC. He worked with Arthur Smith in Atlanta and now is with Sean McVay in LA. I am sure Smith would be Vrabel's first choice if he was available. And Vrabel loves to poach offensive coaches from McVay.

I’m sure MacDaniels could learn how to run a West Coast offense, but in general I think these guys believe in the system they run and don’t want to change it. By sticking with EP MacDaniels has seriously limited his options in the Pro’s, as the vast majority of teams don’t want to run it anymore. I think MacDaniels will end up following Belichick’s lead and take a head coaching job at a college program for his next job.

I think this is the more instructive way to look at the hiring process for building staffs, as opposed to the one where people throw out the big names and gnash their teeth when the coach doesn’t hire the “ All Star” line up of coordinators and coaches.

This was the second area of Concern after Mayo's Coaching. I don't like how quiet it has been for McDaniels. If it won't be him I want someone from the Shannahon/McVay tree.

Not just juice but a human's frame (bones, tendons, etc) can only handle so much.

Even if AC put on 25lbs of pure muscle and his frame isn't built to handle it, it will lead to injury or a loss of speed and agility.

Agree completely. There’s a range of weight where the player is going to be at their best athletic potential, and trying to go well above or below that to suit a different role has all sorts of perils that go with it.

We live in such an instant gratification world now… And want to hear minute by minute updates on our interests… It’s hard to wait, but this is probably a case where we need to chill a while and trust that Vrabel has a plan (myself included). My only concern is that I hope it is (mostly) Vrabel’s plan and there’s not too much meddling.
Either way, we won’t know the real results of the process for months or even years… Meaning, he may put together a staff we think sounds not great, but the eventual results are fine.
