Albert Breer said on one of his appearances that there were several coaches upset, believing they "had at least 3 years." Obviously, that wasn't the case. But as you said, Mayo had to have been feeling some heat, especially based on his comments during his final press conference. If mayo was blindsided by this firing, then much like in the games, he just didn't know the way the wind was blowing.
Super Bowl contending roster for one year until the rest of the AFC caught up to them by 1998. Had it not been for injuries, they would've had the #2 seed and ended up hosting Denver in the AFCCG in 1997. By 1999, they were clearly a shell of themselves and anyone that disagrees with this is in denial. That 6-2 start was mirage and we deep down wanted to ignore the fact that the OL was shaky and they flat out could not run the ball at all. Bill Belichick exposed it on MNF and laid the blueprint the rest of the season which teams copied.White Pete Carrol got 3 years as Pats HC and he played basketball with the players. WPC modeled clothes on the Pats Proshop website.
WPC was handed a Super Bowl roster. What did Mayo have to work with?
That was a very weird one. He was extremely short and almost rude, and for the first time ever he just conveniently lost his blue pin representing Kraft's philanthropic endeavor. What a coincidence... He either knew he was being fired or that it was at least fairly likely to happen.Albert Breer said on one of his appearances that there were several coaches upset, believing they "had at least 3 years." Wasn’t there a game where he literally did not know which way the wind was blowing? If mayo was blindsided by this firing, then much like in the games, he just didn't know the way the wind was blowing.
Gotta wonder if they thought they had three years because they sensed a lack of urgency from the HCAlbert Breer said on one of his appearances that there were several coaches upset, believing they "had at least 3 years." You are so far all over the place that I don't think you know what you are arguing. Also it is insanely clear to me that you don't even know what I'm arguing.
If you need me to explain to you how the NFL's views on race have evolved over the past 45 years, you're too stupid to be engaging in this discussion. Why is it in 1979 you agree with me but in 2025 you do not agree with me that in the 80 years leading up to the Rooney rule (news flash, that includes 1979) that the NFL was absolutely not hiring minorities at the head coaching position?
You are so far all over the place that I don't think you know what you are arguing.
The Patriots are a sham!
The Rooney Rule is a sham!
The Patriots should have done better!
The Patriots couldn't have done better!
8 minorities in 80 years!
20 minorities in 20 years!

Interesting comment from someone living in the 70's.If you need for me to explain that the amount of minorities hired after the Rooney rule has more than quadrupled (that's times 4) compared to the entirety of the previous 80 years before the rule combined than you are too stupid to be engaging in this discussion.
But we knew that already.
It's interesting though that not a single one of your proclaimed statements you want to attribute to me was actually said by me.
Keep up pal. It's a fast world out here.
Interesting comment from someone living in the 70's.
Don't get used to disco, buddy, it doesn't make it into the 80's.
this is specifically what I referenced.Wasn’t there a game where he literally did not know which way the wind was blowing?
Or was it that he didn’t care, or even know why he should care?
I don't care. I am a wife and mother and am not whining that no woman has been hired as a head coach, GM, OC, or DC. I am a Patriots fan. I want to win. I will enjoy the next 4 years and 40 beyond that while the stupid snowflakes and cupcakes whine. Just hire the best person for the job.Enjoy your 4 years.
This same league you're so worried about patronizing people hired only 5 black coaches in 80 years. Five dawg.
But you right. They were strictly hiring the best candidate and minorities were super unqualified in those 8 decades.
Nothing to see here at all!

My position is I am sick and tired of your whining cupcake posts. Just shut up already. I have not said a single thing like the crap coming out of your mouth. So it's your position that in the 80 years before owners were forced to interview minorities, that the 5 minorities hired in the NFL were the only ones qualified?
Because when you say just hire the best person, you're saying that that's what they have been doing all along.
There are snowflakes and cupcakes all right. They just aren't the people you think they are.
My position is I am sick and tired of your whining cupcake posts. Just shut up already. I have not said a single thing like the crap coming out of your mouth.
Lol I am a black woman. I don't care about your cupcake ideas.No. You been very clear how you feel about dei woke policies.
This is usually how facts are met with from the oppressing parties. "Just shut up"
You've embarrassed your self enough for one day.
Lol I am a black woman. I don't care about your cupcake ideas.
I never denied that fact so your sad little post isn't the flex you think it is.It troubles me that you can't just admit that the rise in minority coaches started after the 2003 season with the introduction of the Rooney rule.
It's unbelievable that you won't accept that as a fact.
I never denied that fact so your sad little post isn't the flex you think it is.
What troubles me is that you are completely ignorant of the meaning of the old phrase: Correlation does not imply causation
I said several times the NFL's viewpoint on racial bias has changed significantly over the past 30 years. Yes, I believe we would have seen a significant increase in HCs of color with or without the Rooney Rule. There's no quarterback Rooney Rule, and yet we see far, far more QBs of color over the past 25 years than anytime prior to that, don't we? Is it your contention that the Rooney Rule also created all those QBs of color too? There's no flex. Before the Rooney rule, the NFL didn't hire minority head coaches. Undeniable. You conceded this earlier. After the Rooney rule they barely increased in hiring minority coaches. Backed by facts.
But that's just a coincidence and there is no correlation. Got it.
