This is how I understand it and I think you're even supposed to pay him somewhat his worth. You can't just sign him for a penny. If you sign him as OC you're expected to pay him like other OCs with similar experience. No clue how that is calculated.

This is "the rule" but it is not clearly defined and what someone's "worth" is, is very up for interpretation.

This is something Kraft has exploited many times. It is why Patricia and Judge did not get big official "titles" with the Pats while still drawing HC salaries - so Kraft could pay them low salaries, since that was what their relatively low ranking "assistant" roles were arguably worth.

One could argue that Josh McDaniels does not have a high monetary value as an OC since he was out of the league last year. Kraft could, theoretically, bring him in without the title to save some bucks. However, I am guessing he would make him the OC, but probably skimp slightly on the contract value. The Raiders could complain but they'd have a hard time proving what McDaniels "should" be paid, because he's the only one of him. As long as you are in the ballpark of typical OC salaries, even on the lower end, then you are fine. If Kraft tried to pay him way below market value then the Raiders could lodge a complaint that would actually get traction and force Kraft to raise his pay.

To keep Wolf on in any capacity, given his failings in the past under both Bill and Jerrod and given his obvious predilection for infighting, backbiting, and ass-kissing re the owner, is a formula for dysfunction. It is simply another example of Robert's asinine tendency to choose "nice guys" of whom he is fond over guys of demonstrated competence, which Wolf manifestly is not. If it is the case that Vrabel is fine with this, I find that a baffling and foolish concession which he will regret.

Most of the posts here in this matter are voices trying to convince themselves that the arrangement apparently in view will "develop"into a workable system. Why not make an arrangement which will be funmctional and efficient from the start. Such an arrangement begin with firing Wolf. The discussion reminds me of the two or more years wasted pretending Bill was not trash for at least the last two years of his time here. Wolf has failed: get rid of him.

probably not, but I am sure he would have an easy learning curve. Check out his experience
He knows the pats w organization well and has 3 years experience under McVay. Now that Mayo is gone he might be interested.

I would prefer him over McDaniels. McDaniels is just a well known name people are familiar with but his behavior while raider coach was just plain weird.

I think it'll take 5+ years before Josh would be offered another HC gig. Besides, he's still being paid his HC salary by the Raiders until 2028. Even if that did happen, Drake will be a 6+ year vet by that point in time. He would be fully developed and I don't think learning a different offense, if he had to, would suddenly kill him.

Watching last night I noticed he's a captain there. I'm not buying it yet. Of course it would be exciting but I don't want to get my hopes up. For now I like your DK idea more.

I think it's pretty simple: he has demonstrated that he is an excellent OC but a lousy HC. I don't really think one has much to do with the other. I don't recall his having any interpersonal problems at all as OC.

Fair to question but he never had any issues with players under Bill. He was not "in control" and Bill handled things. I think Vrabel would maintain the same level of control and McDaniels would know his role. But hey, it's possible that maybe he has issues relating to players these days...

Caley or Rees seem like fine options, though Caley has never coached QBs to my knowledge. Rees has less experience but has been a QB coach. That does matter IMO. I'd also look at a guy like Josh McCown in Minnesota... Maybe Klint Kubiak in New Orleans, since he'll likely be fired as part of their coaching restructure there... Chad O'Shea might be an option.
