Vrabel's Staff Discussion Thread (Discuss related news here)

He was HC twice because of his perceived offensive abilities. He told the Broncos locker room he could make any High School QB an All Pro. Both teams thought he was fraudulent only to magically have good offenses with the Pats. O’Brien forgot how to run an offense when he returned. The common denominator was Tom Brady, Gronk, etc.
JMD is an ego maniac if he is the only voice in the room. If he re-joins the Pats Vrabel will serve as his ego control officer. I would also hope that the Raiders experience humbled him a bit.

I don't think any roster with Mac Jones or Cam Newton is much better than a roster with Drake Maye.
If you include Maye's potential, which is neither tangible or measurable in the field, then sure

I think the whole "youcan'tfirethescoutingstaffthey'vebeenscoutingalltheplayersallyear!!!!!!" thing is overblown.
Honestly, how much better is any scouting staff than the Hudson News magazines?

Don’t these magazines get a lot of their info from scouts?

Yep. That was a pretty remarkable accomplishment, I think the impression of some that he can only run a very complex offense suited only to certain sorts of players is very much overblown. There is probably some truth to that imopression in his HC experience, but not in his work as OC. I think the Brady era's impatience with WR's struggling to master the system was more on Brady than on Josh, because of Tom's perfectionism. McD, I think, was actually reasonable patient.
It was also a matter of drafting very bad receivers who couldn't learn any offense in the NFL.

Givens, Branch, Mitchell, Jakobi Meyers managed to handle it just fine.

I can't think of a single young receiver we drafted who failed at it then went elsewhere and succeeded in another offense.

The same goes for vets that refused to pick it up or couldn't like Galloway or Ocho, but that was maybe an old-dog-new-tricks situation.

Yet Welker, Amendola, Hogan, Brandon Lloyd, LaFell, Moss, Stallworth, heck even Jabar Gaffney handled it just fine.

This really seems to be a talent issue versus a knowledge issue.

For what it's worth, in my college Composition Classes, I got Straight A's. I know how to write. But, as this is just a Fan Forum and a degree isn't riding on my correct use of paragraph's, I rarely bother. But, I went back and made it a little more appropriate.
So you saying we don’t matter ??? Ouch

As JE11 has said multiple times, the offense isn't as complicated as it seems. People talk about big playbooks, route trees, sight adjustments, etc.

The challenge new players had with this offense is learning to see what Tom sees. Once you do that, it's easy.

All of the successful players you mention had football talent but were also smart players. Having a high football IQ is a talent.

If his track record is not enough justification, him blaming the coaches for his bad drafting seals the deal. He is not the kind of leader that a successful organization should employ.
My big fear is that we're going to let him blow the 2 highest draft position drafts since 1993. In another 31 years, I'll be 87!!!

I wonder. If Flores doesn't get a HC Job and Vrabel offers him the DC Job but also with the title of Assistant HC, would Flores come here?

Vrabel is going to have final say, no way he took the job without that.
I would have thought so but I'm worried Bruschi got some backchannel info that contradicts that

Isn’t it “paragraphs?” I dunno. I didn't take any college composition classes in school, so you would know better.

Could be. I make a lot of mistakes these days because I type way faster than I have keyboard talent.

Why would he leave Minnesota?
That's why I asked the question. Would having the Title of Assistant HC and going back to New England (and whatever other reasons) make a difference? I was just curious about what other people thought about it.

Also worth highlighting that Belichick for all his not usually wanting to draft WRs high or have Divas at WR, always had a penchant for trying to acquire a speedy vertical threat. David Patten, Bethel Johnson (who kinda busted), Stallworth, even Randy Moss to an extent.

I think that also rubbed off on McDaniels in his time as OC (see his work with Brandon Lloyd too) and Vrabel never shied away from that kind of talent in Tennessee (Corey Davis, A.J. Brown, acquiring Julio Jones in 2021, Treylon Burks).

I can see Vrabel hiring an OC who utilizes more vertical speed outside with proper route running execution but not necessarily needing a 4.2 level burner if a 4.35 or 4.40 can get off the LOS, run routes, and take the top off as a bonus.

I assume Vrabel will bring on Cowden who will help him look at the front office and decide who should be kept until the draft, who needs to be hired right away to help out, and who isn’t necessary and can just be relieved of duty immediately. Then after the draft they will take more time to transform the front office in a deeper fashion.
