The Official Vrabel vs Ben Johnson Discussion Thread

Very interesting that Vrabel spent '24 with the Browns - working closely with Stefanski.
If he did get the job, would he keep AVP in some offensive role to help Maye adjust to whatever hybrid offense/OC they go with?

As far as Vrabel being a "hard-ass" - if you read the piece on how he handled his firing from TEN and the tears shed with his staff, people love Mike, he's a real and deep relationship guy. We can't peg him for a callous meat-head like BB, just because he was when he was 30 as a vet DE.

Final point - Mayo supposedly is a good leader and relationship builder. And he apparently knows defensive football. But, what he didn't know was how to manage a football team or game, including schemes and in-game adjustments vs. opponents. Vrabel seems to understand that - to the point of out-smarting BB in that infamous playoff game (Brady's last).

I just looked into this today because I was called out on it....Johnson runs a EP based system just like Josh did/would.

No ****? Didn't know that.

If I was HC or GM I would be signing and cutting people every hour.
Scouring the globe for talent.
No negative attitudes, first time is a warning and comped counseling with a team therapist. Where I will have access to the audio. Second time is extreme psycho therapy. Third time is traded to the Browns or executed. I mean released.
Can you interview with Jonothan and Robert tomorrow at 10 am? Please be prompt

No ****? Didn't know that.

One of Johnson’s greatest qualities as an offensive coordinator was something in short supply in the modern NFL: Being immutable. He’s a coach who doesn’t have a fixed scheme or tendency that he needs to build towards, instead using his own modern twist on the classic Erhardt-Perkins system to utilize the players available to him, and maximizing their ability.

I wonder if its not out of the realm of possibilities that Vrabel would keep AVP as OC. They seem to have a similar run first philosophy and by all measures he did a great job with Maye's development and Milton's for that matter.

I thought Mayo apparently knew defensive football, but in my mind that was the biggest indictment against him. Our defensive game planning, lack of adjustments, and fundamentals were atrocious. To me that was a far bigger issue than the culture and bad press conferences.

And this is exactly why when you fire the coach you fire everybody. You don't half ass it.

And vice versa when it comes to firing the GM
Yup. There's no sense in forcing a GM and HC into a marriage. Needs to be a unified vision.

Never been called a troll by a goblin before.

Literally made nothing up. All those stats are true.
Well that's just not honest. I never said "So your point is that with good players Vrabel is a really good coach and with bad payers he's a really bad coach?" No, that was not my point. You pulled that from your whazoo. Literally, you made that up. Its just a typical troll straw man argument. I get it. You have nothing better to day.

Friend. I never said you said it. I asked you a question.

You know that right?

That’s interesting, I hadn’t seen that. In which case I’m out on Iohnson. I don’t want them going anywhere near that offense.

Agree! Interview several guys. **** I don't want Rivera but he is an experienced guy who can give insight, interview Saleh get an idea from a former coach of a divisional rival, he may at a minimum help you get some insight on how those know you best view your team. Interview Chucky no reason not too. Add Liam Coen to that list, maybe Aaron Glenn (not big on bringing him in but get his input). Then figure it out from there. You can do that in a week, narrow it down to two or three cadidates and go from there. I mean if you only interview Johnson and Vrabel and one or worse both spurn you...then what? Your left scrambling. I hope there are more candidates they have already reached out to and they are waiting a response before announcing it.
They can’t interview just Vrabel and Iohnson, they need two interviews with minority candidates.

Understood. But we all know those will be ******** interviews. Aaron Glenn maybe the only serious minority candidate this cycle. I couldn't imagine them having interest in him over Vrabel. I don't know about Flores with the law suit and all. Vance Joseph? Maybe?

Edit: They just reported they interviewed Pep Hamilton. So Pep and Byron check the box. They got that out of the way quick.

Ron Rivera would be a minority interview.

AVP is still with the team which tells me Vrabel is probably ok with him.
